Well that is really sad news if true -- ImgBurn has also been by go-to cd burning app for quite some time.  Maybe there is an alternative download or older version still available?

even if you take the long install route and deselect everything except ImgBurn it STILL install multiple crapware apps

This would be the deal killer for me.  If i have to be careful and take extra steps during installation, i can live with that -- and OpenCandy in the installer doesn't bother me -- but if it's true that it installs crapware with no way at all to skip it, that's a deal killer.

You might also consider an alternative to sending an email -- perhaps a tool that simply updated a web page somewhere with some metrics.  That would be less troublesome than sending emails in my opinion.

The new manual scrolling capture function should make it fairly painless to do your own scrolling (vertical, horizontal, or both) and handle situations where automatic scrolling doesn't work well.

Now when you select a manual scrolling capture, you do your own scrolling, hitting PrtScr hotkey on each page as you scroll, and then tell the program when you are done.
You can then stitch the captured images together using the normal scrolling capture assembly dialog.

I'd like to get some feedback on the new feature.

The new beta (4.8.4) now has a completely revamped Manual Scrolling Capture system, that should make it a lot less painful to use SC to capture a window which you the user manually scroll the contents of.

For what it's worth -- I've been a long time user of ESETsecurity suite, but switched over to AVG a couple of months ago due to bad ESET performance and stability issues, and have been quite happy with AVG.

It's not as configurable as ESET, and I prefer the user interface of ESET, but it's been stable and painless and i've been thrilled with the performance improvements of my pc since switching away from ESET.

Your guess is correct.

There are a ton of threads on this forum (and every other software forum) about the insanely irresponsible practice of antivirus companies throwing these false positives when they encounter files that have been compressed or processed by some packager that they are unsure of.

The giveaway for people in the know is always in the name/label of the malware found.. It's always something like "generic packer" (or in your case "Packer.Gen").

That's code for "I don't know what this is so i'm going to label it as potential malware and scare everyone."

The best practice when you encounter something like that is to do what you are doing -- don't ignore it, don't assume it's a false alarm -- but be skeptical of your antivirus, and investigate as you are doing.

And typically the best thing to do is to upload the program in question to a place like https://www.virustotal.com/ where it will be scanned with tons of different engines, which will usually confirm that most engines report the program as safe.

I am sorry it's taken so long to reply.  Web Link Captor is one of those programs of mine that i worked very hard on but never seem to get any traction.  Even I only have rare occasion to use it.
What you are asking could be done with a python script -- but i don't have time to code it myself.

Answer to your first question:
You can install the new version right on top of old version and all your settings will be preserved, no worries.

(ps. you can also backup your settings for emergencies, it's a file called ScreenshotCaptor.ini -- stored in your mydocuments folder on win vista/7/8, or in ScreenshotCaptor directory on xp).


Answer to your second question:
You can tell SC to save all files as jpg files by default (see the Image File Format tab); you can experiment with the Compression Level to get the best file size vs quality tradeoff.
OR if you don't mind an extra step, you can capture in the normal PNG lossless format, and then just use SaveAs to save jpg when you need to post to your forum.


Answer to your third question:

For the fastest workflow -- I turn off the post-capture dialog, so you can just capture images without intervention.  If you are posting on a forum, a really nice feature is go to the Post-Capture options dialog, and tell SC to capture the file PATH to the clipboard after every capture.  Then you can capture an image and it will put the path on the clipboard where you can paste it into the file browse dialog that will be shown when you tell your forum to attach an image file.

Scrolling captures can be a bit tricky, but there are some videos showing how to do it here.

Note:
All modern browsers have addons you can download that can pretty easily capture a large webpage that needs scrolling -- if it's only web pages that you need to do scrolling captures for, that may be easiest.

You can now set explicit minimum width of all buttons (or overide any button), and you can set spacings for separators, and toolbar margins.
