That's 90% of reason all use third party providers like paypal or gateways (http://en.wikipedia....wiki/Payment_gateway) which 'send' info when needed. Storing credit card numbers on your own servers is asking for trouble.

And Paypal stores credit card numbers...?

Their defenses go beyond encryption on a web facing server and a SSL certificate, this is a case of going with better security infrastructure.

But anyone can be hacked.  And paypal has a less than sterling reputation of taking your money themselves in cases.  My point is, everything is relative, and if you're going to do business on the net, you take some risk no matter what you do.

Stanza has been updated, and I can confirm that it again works in iOS5.  There was apparently a problem with the library, so that could be an issue.

I changed all my passwords to unique passwords after the Gawker fiasco, so I'm not too concerned about the damage done here. Just gotta change my Steam password and the forum password once the forums are back up.

Yeah... I just can't bring myself to manage that many passwords.

"Add-ons installed by third party programs are now disabled by default"

Actually, that seems one of the more rational approaches.  If some bundleware or malware installs something into Firefox, why not disable it?
Perhaps I've misunderstood what the statement means, but I took it to mean that third-party programs such as Linkman, LastPass, and Surfulater will have their Firefox add-ons disabled by default.  This seems to me outrageous and counterproductive.  I use Firefox rather than Opera in part because of third-party program add-ons that either do not exist for Opera or work better in Firefox.  Linkman and the like are not scummy malware programs--they're among the best programs of their kind that I know.  What is the point of disabling them by default?

What it took it as is anything that installs an extension from outside of the normal extension installation process would be disabled by default.  So if Linkman or 1Password or any of these other desktop applications install a firefox extension as part of the process, it will be disabled until you enable it.

Hopefully, we can leave us Pastafarians out of all that!

Jeez I wish I had this kind of spare time.

Indeed.

Truthfully, I didn't read the whole thing, as it seemed to be dissecting a couple of statements in extreme depth, and weaving it in with other statements, when the truth of the matter is quite simple.  I can't claim to be a scholar of the Koran, which is where the limited exposure comes from.  I didn't qualify it in relation to anything, because I wasn't trying to establish bonafides and it seemed that you might have more exposure than I so I asked a simple question.  Limited, however, does not mean no experience, and I have had occasion to study based upon specific needs.  That study did include more intense study of Wahhabism and its influence in certain areas.  I never said that all Mullahs pervert the Koran, nor even most- in fact I think that such a statement would be a disservice.  But unfortunately some do, just as some Christians pervert the bible (and I'm assuming that the same goes on in other religions, i.e. humans are humans and religion is a powerful tool).

your ignorance would seem to have led you into making a statement that I suspect you would be unable to substantiate at all.

One last statement- or rather, two words.  Radical Wahhabism.  And I'll leave it at that, as I do know what I am talking about on that regard, and we will have to agree to disagree.

It sounds so amazing.. What an experience.  I can only imagine.  You really got a chance to step outside of our normal reality.  I'm jealous.
I can't wait to hear more about it as you have time to digest the experience.

Ditto.  And welcome back... though it was amazing following your journey even by GPS.  Thanks for carrying us along virtually. :)

Rather I guess it a question of whether storing a 1 in memory requires more energy then a 0, or vis-versa.

That's what it boils down to for me (at the platter level). It's a "magnetic" drive, so 1 or 0 is either North or South. Hence a formatted drive which is already all zeros is about as energetic as it's going to get. You can modify what's there, but you can't really add to it...as it's already full of zeros.

Hah!  That makes a lot of sense!  My skepticism has been vindicated!

Not really on here - but what I will say is that all three middle eastern religions (Judaism, Islam and Christianity) are all based on the teachings of the first 5 books of the old testament (as well as later addons) and those books are not exactly tolerant of dissenters.

The New Testament (one of the later addons) includes the Great Commandment, which sort of modifies it.  Perhaps because of these same issues.

I have been studying the Koran since about 2000. One of my favourite translations is the Koran published in paperback form by The Penguin Classics (published and republished between 1956 and 1974). It is by N.J.Dawood , who, according to the biographical notes of my 1974 copy:

Well, then I don't get the quote:
who are eternally obliged by Allah in the Koran to ensure that Islamism is the dominant religion and legal system, and that it is enforced (typically under threat of barbaric punishment or pain of death) in any society/culture where they find themselves

I know that Mullahs in many cases pervert parts of the Koran to make such things necessary- but I've never seen any argument that stands up to the light of reason.  In fact, most of the Muslims that I know look down on this perversion of the Koran, which is why I was a bit befuddle about your comments.  In your study of the Koran have you come upon something that I haven't in my admittedly limited exposure to it?

I don't care what anyone believes so long as they do as I say
1st - 20th century creed for xxxxxxx

for xxxxxxx insert your religious or political belief system.

Not from my studies of Christianity, which are more extensive than my studies of the Koran.  In fact, it is stated many times in the new testament that worldly authority and spiritual authority are two different things, and that if someone doesn't believe you or receive you, that you are to move on.  Now what it is equated to in practice is quite difference.  But Christianity is about actions following belief, not the other way around.

Islamism:[/b] Islamist activists of today, who are eternally obliged by Allah in the Koran to ensure that Islamism is the dominant religion and legal system, and that it is enforced (typically under threat of barbaric punishment or pain of death) in any society/culture where they find themselves. I saw an estimate of 140+ million people who have had to die at the hands of this Religion of Peace, over its 1,400 year-old history.

Have you read the Koran?  I was quite surprised when I did read parts of it, that apparently some things are left out of the rhetoric.  Then I did some research, and found that most things that you hear regurgitated and used as an excuse for violence are misquotations/misinterpretations.  It actually talks of respect for the followers of Christ, not persecution.  And I don't think that this is unique in this situation either.

Religion isn't necessarily evil.  People have evil uses for religion, IMO.

I know that both of you are just trying to make a living.  I don't see why for one to succeed, the other must fail, but with the animosity, it seems like both of you might just believe that, and I'm sorry for both of you, as you both have excellent products that I'd like to see succeed, especially since there are real people behind both of these companies.

That said, this is not the forum for such things.  We come here for a relaxing, supporting environment, where people get along, and there aren't flame wars.

As guests here (neither supporters... hmmm?) we'd ask you to refrain from such actions, as good guests will.  Take it to your own boards.  Or somewhere else.  But consider this an online Geneva, where cooler heads prevail, and everyone is neutral, so that your arguments would fall on deaf ears in any case.

And I know that a shot was fired over the bow with the last post, but surely we can stop the tit-for-tat there, and not respond any further to these kinds of things, can't we?

I was thinking more in terms of having the choice to NOT invade. i.e. To refuse an order.

It's been done before.  It's called resigning in protest.  Not very effective in most cases.

But if they made policy decisions, then wouldn't the US be a military dictatorship?  At least in regards to foreign aggression?  I think the reason that they follow orders from a politician is because they are appointed rather than duly elected and serve in many cases for longer than the term of one administration.  You think that would really be better?

<sarcasm>That's not prone to abuse...</sarcasm>

And many high ranking US officers have never been into combat...

^ Military officers don't make policy decisions regarding offense.  So they *always* follow orders from their Commander in Chief, who is a politician.  Yes, they make recommendations, but those are from a purely military standpoint.  So I don't get your point...?
