Living Room / Re: Net Neutrality is REALLY dead
« Last post by mouser on May 16, 2014, 01:14 PM »
It may shock some to hear that I'm not opposed to the abstract *concept* of having super-heavy bandwidth services (like netflix) pay more.  But I completely agree that the likely end result of this is that small organizations get shafted and big corporations can once again buy their way to dominance.  And the ISPs get more and more powerful and rich and entrenched.

Detractors of the new proposal fear that ISPs will simply charge escalating fees for direct access and continue to stall upgrading their outdated communications infrastructure,  meaning slow lanes will end up even further behind the fast lanes

This is why I think that a compromise proposal should have been something like allowing ISPs to charge more for heavy high-speed bandwidth, but at the same time require that the SLOWEST speed for normal priced access was no slower than 50% of the high speed.  That way the high speed folks would be subsidizing the rest.

Having said that, and at the risk of injecting politics, my personal preference would be to wipe the for profit internet service provider corporations off the face of the earth (along with the for-profit health care and health insurance corporations, but thats a topic for the basement) and nationalize the internet.

If you re-download the official version now the error should be gone.

Grrrr too bad this wasn't picked up in the beta testing "phase" >:
It's part of the new code to throw an error if the file to launch was not found.
I can see now that I should have checked first if it's a real filename, and if not, skip the file existence check.  I will fix and release a new update this weekend.

The doubt is: did the cat attack the dog to defend its little owner or because the dog was simply an unwelcome intruder?

there are lots of videos of cats defending territory or in general antagonizing a dog that is in their area -- but such videos show very different behavior than what we see in the video above.

In such territorial cases the cat approaches with claws front, back up and attempts to scare off and intimidate the intruder, etc.

Wheras in the video above the cat launched her whole body at the dog so forcefully that she becomes disoriented afterwards.  I've never seen a video of a cat do that -- has anyone else here seen such behavior before?

I'm afraid it's pretty low down on my list of priorities.

One of the cool things about the interview video is it becomes clear how much of a gentle giant that cat really is.  She's very laid back and tolerant of the kid.  Makes it all the more amazing to see her run in and launch herself at the dog in the first video.

The news people just cannot resist trying to feed the kid lines that will make for good news clips.

There are some very good indie time travel movies that have been mentioned on the forum that have a groundhog-day element (for example Timecrimes).

Awesome detective work, L

I'm going to add a note about this in the Screenshot Captor help document, and hopefully if someone else experiences it they will find this post.

-ccfile doesnt trigger a capture, it simply copies the last capture to clipboard.

if you really want a commandline capture (and copy to clipboard, etc.), use MiniCap.

Glad to hear it -- hopefully the new manual scrolling option means that even in the craziest of circumstances you should be able to get some semblance of a scrolled capture stitched together.

v1.142.01 - May 14, 2014
  • [Improvement] The preferences (configuration tree) dialog was always scrolling the top Options node out of view, making it hard to find.  This top node is now scrolled into view where it is more obvious.
  • [BugFix] Automatic fixing up of form position/size on resolution change was sometimes not being engaged.
  • [Improvement] Clarified onscreen instructions for adding a node that opens a folder.
  • [MinorFeature] The exit menu item on launchbars can be disabled.
  • [Feature] You can now use Ctrl+Shift plus Up,Down,Left,Right when in the configuration tree to move nodes around the hierarchy easily.
  • [Feature] Supports use of environmental variables and %APPDIR% like replacements in command launch arguments (needs testing!).
  • [Feature] An error is now reported if user tries to launch a node pointing to a non-existent file (needs testing).
  • [Feature] Added new maintenance menu item to check entire tree for any filepaths that may no longer be valid (user has option for trying to auto fix them).
  • [Bugfix] LBC was not properly identifying full screen applications, causing it not to unhide when it should if current window was maximized (but not full screen); if you have turned off the option to Keep LaunchBars "On Top" and you use AutoHiding docks, you should try re-enabling this option.  Should make it possible to use full screen games without LBC waking up.
  • [MinorFeature] You can now set custom size of separators.
  • [MinorFeature] You can now set custom margins for docking bars.
  • [MinorFeature] You can now set minimum width/height for items (for entire dock or overide for single items).
  • [MinorFeature] If dock is set to show item hints, those hints will now also be shown on hover when dock is minimized to tray.
  • [Bugfix] LBC was not properly identifying full screen applications, causing it not to unhide when it should if current window was maximized (but not full screen); if you have turned off the option to Keep LaunchBars "On Top" and you use AutoHiding docks, you should try re-enabling this option.  Should make it possible to use full screen games without LBC waking up.

v4.8.5 - May 14, 2014
  • [MajorImprovement] Completely revamped the "manual" method of performing a scrolling capture, to make it easier to do your own scrolling on stubborn windows.
  • [MinorImprovement] Added some commandline options for use with an already running copy of Screenshot Captor.
  • [MinorFeature] You can now toggle the object-capture behavior to not present the "What Now?" dialog where you can choose scrolling capture, etc., and instead do an immediate object/region capture.
  • [Improvement] Minor improvements to Scrolling Capture workflow/instructions/warnings.

Screenshot Captor / Re: New License Key
« Last post by mouser on May 13, 2014, 10:27 PM »
We're here to help.  You can email me directly ([email protected]) if you like.

The most common cause for this problem if you have grabbed a free license key is not noticing that on the free license key page there are different links for different of our programs.

So maybe try again to visit the free license key page and make sure you click on the Screenshot Captor link.  Let me know if that helps!

Another option is you could make ONE alias (group) called "ax"
and put firefox and all your other common programs in that alias as results.

then you would type:

+alias +launchone ax firef...

the only thing to remember in that case is that just type "firef.." alone will NOT find the firefox entry you create..  only typing the name of the parent alias group would show the results contained in it.
7772
Ill try to read this more carefully and reply in a bit, but a quick note:
you can make a regex alias that lets you type one thing and searches as if you typed something else.
you do this by using "dosearch" as the result of the alias.

in this way you could make an alias where you type "mysearch blah"
and it acted like you typed "+alias +launchone blah"

Find And Run Robot / Re: Running Windows 8.1 apps
« Last post by mouser on May 13, 2014, 11:59 AM »
Hmm.. FARR should run fine in windows 8.1 but this sounds like possibly the issue we've seen before about some shortcuts pointing to special "virtualized" locations..  Can anyone shed any light on whether these shortcuts to the metro apps mentioned might be unusual?
7774
You can always launch any result you want by hitting the specific number (or alt+# depending on your configuration), double clicking, arrowing down, etc.  this specific request is about launching something when there is only one result.

I think I got Amy sorted out over email.
