try the other way around, please. Run a full anti-virus and anti-malware scan.

Thank you, Curt.

Ran full avast, Super-AS and MBAM scans.  Super-AS found 38 Adware/cookies but these would have been detected via quick-scan as well.

If the result is safe, the problem does not exist.

Not sure what you mean but the problem still exists.  :(

Anyone ever use unhide.exe?  https://helpdesk.mal...by-Rogue-Infections-

This first sentence stops me from trying it.

Note: You should not run unhide.exe unless you have been infected with one of the FakeHDD\Defragmenter rogues that hide your files and Start Menu.

Don't think I was infected by one of these rogues and can use the Start Menu but... some files I cannot see and should be able to.

Unlike most folks, I presume, I sit and watch during a quick-scan... AV, SAS or MBAM.  I see files scanned that are not visble when I navigate there.
I don't mean 'normally invisable OS files'.  I mean cookies.  Making ALL files visable changes nothing.

Maybe my issue is a by-product of the FBI Scam I experienced in the past?  Don't really know when this invisbility started.   :(

Have to say it isn't clear how the new licensing system will work with old licenses - I hope they don't have to go through the hassle with lifetime licenses of contacting them for new licenses when new versions are released.

Not sure what you mean.   :tellme:

This was my last Informative-Reply, not my only reply, so I may have one that will clear this up for you.  :)

Don't know where you are.  I'm in 'the South of Florida'.  Not The South or The Deep South.  That begins to end up around the border.
Back when the History and Discovery channels had less *reality* crap they had shows referring to The South.  Never mentioned Florida.
It was always Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Carolinas ..

I'm in the middle of central Florida. And while "The South" might officially end at the border...straying more than a mile or so off the interstate around here will bring one up to speed real fast about how far south The South really goes. We're talking Rebel flags, Confederate money, a 5th grade education, and 3 teeth per family - that's extended on both sides (assuming there are actually 2 sides...) mind you.

There are places in the national forest here that the cops won't go into with less than 3 vehicles in a caravan.

This is above Orlando?  We have Rebels, counterfeit money, many GED's and no teeth per.

We have the Everglades but the cops don't bother chasing.  There's only a few places with semi-potable water any time of year.
If the perps are driving... there's only one western exit... with cops waiting.  Most turn around and face the music.

can't here/scan no pro info, yokel stuffs way 2 boaring to.  :)

Yokels?! Hell man we're in "The South" grammar is so far gone here "the yokels" get close captioned on the history/discovery channel. God knows why the hell these people are considered fun to watch (much like a train wreck I guess). Jesus Christ man, when people have to be close captioned (e.g. translated for) on the local news because their enunciation is really that bad...there is a serious problem ... And I don't think it in the water either.  :D

Florida seems to be like a giant gravity water filter.  Don't know about Tampa but as you pass Mickey... most of 'The South' was been trapped.
Some make it down as far as the lake but the All-You-Can-Eat catfish places usually grab those.

...Hell man we're in "The South" grammar is so far gone here "the yokels" get close captioned on the history/discovery channel...
If that were true, then I would suggest that the captions might be for the hard of hearing.

When Closed-Captioned first started, down here, a voice would say: This program is Closed-Captioned for the hearing-impaired.  Of course this was stupid.
Soon they switched to verbage only.  Much, much better.  These days it's just cc in a box.

Am I the only one that's annoyed by the seemingly decreasing quality of language in "professional" news, articles and general writing?

I really don't care about people making mistakes in forums or informal writing. A lot of people don't speak English as their first language, and that's not a problem. What I find annoying is "professional" media that simply don't know how to use English properly.

e.g.
* Statistical "outlyers". It's "outliers". Sigh...
* "mass nouns" -- They're called "countable" and "uncountable", not "mass".
* Verb agreement

The list goes on and on.

It's just jarring to get "hit" by grammar, spelling, and word choice mistakes that there really is no excuse for.

It's one thing for it to be "the odd time", but it's not. It's all the time.

Am I just super-anal? Is poor grammar really acceptable in professional media?

Confused - purchased a number of licenses in the past.

All are the Pro version but some say Consumer License whilst others say Home License.

Given these were all bought during the lifetime license period am I covered? The website is not terribly clear of Consumer / home differences?

I received this explaination yesterday...    8)

Feb 09 11:13 AM:

The difference between the terminology of HOME, CONSUMER and LIFETIME - They are all the same, they are all for home use only and they are all lifetime license, we have tried to change the name of the license to make it less confusing to the average home user.

Now when 2.0 comes out of beta all licenses that fall under the home use lifetime license will still be honored for life but any NEW license purchased after the release of 2.0 will use the new subscription based system

They will still be a free version just like it is now that you can use to scan the computer for malware.

The improved pro features also make the pro version a very good product.

Now let me know if you understand things about the terminology of the HOME, CONSUMER and LIFETIME

Then I will put in for the refund of the new purchase

Regards,

Consumer Support Specialist
Malwarebytes

They do offer refunds.   :)

Specialist treatment costs a fortune on both sides of the ocean, but it appears to me that (only) after the money is transferred, US doctors want to do their job and show that they can do what they do in better, more successful ways.

One thing is the same on both sides, don't expect the best attention if you need insurance to pay for the medical bill.

Not always the case.... my experience in South Florida, USA anyway.  Yes... the doctor, clinic and surgeon wanted their money up-front.
Did not pay the full 'normal' price, for any of it but don't think I received inferior treatment either.  No insurance... all out-of-pocket.

These doctors had/have regular practices.  The operating-theater (clinic) was/is something one might find in a hospital.
So I view them as semi-pro bono.  Not free... but way much a lot cheaper.

Of course I do not speak for anywhere else in the US or even my small part of it.  Just needed this care or treatment very soon.
Sorry Curt, this wasn't back problems but I believe it could have been.  It was eyes.

Maybe uninstall/reinstall is needed?

Looks like it, plus some rebooting, if you read for instance this forum post:

https://forums.malwa....php?showtopic=63720

Many, many thanks Jibz.  Your link provided the cleanup tool I needed, and didn't know was needed, to completely ininstall MBAM.

Was able to download/install a fresh MBAM Pro and insert the ID/Key.  8)

I tend to shy away from Product Forums because most (I have used) are P2P not A2P.  This Admin's solution is very easy to follow and use.

IMO  P2P=maybe useful, maybe harmful; reputation means zilch.  A2P=useful, informative and often step-by-step (my speed).   :)

Forgot to include this in my MBAM unin/rein Victory Dance above.

Thought I'd get a quicker answer here... rather than going to them.
Still waiting for MBAM to *return-email me soon* (not exact words but similar).  Contacted them around 5 min. after posting here.
Don't need it now but that's beside the point.  More than one confusing place there.  Not even sure I contacted the right people. :-\

To activate your product please do the following:
1.  If you do not yet have Malwarebytes installed, you can download it from above.
Already had Home License version but download/installed anyway.  Can't find the words Home License or Lifetime License anywhere in the GUI window.

2.  Open Malwarebytes. Click Activate.

3.  Copy and Paste your ID and Key listed above and click Activate.

There was no Activate to click. Under the About tab is my old Home License ID and Key.  The email w/ new Lifetime License ID and Key cannot be used.   :-\

Thought I'd get a quicker answer here... rather than going to them.

At some point (soon?) after Malwarebytes v2.0  is launched, they will stop offering lifetime licenses.  The new license model will be a yearly subscription, with each subscription valid for 3 PCs.

Current lifetime licenses are grandfathered, of course.

With the launch of 2.0, we'll also be moving to a subscription licensing model, $24.95 per year. As more and more people have come to rely on us for malware protection and cleanup, our costs in bandwidth, hosting fees, infrastructure, salaries of our researchers, QA department, and more have grown immensely. Though our company is about more than just making money, we are a company and we do have to make money to pay our staff to continue doing what they love, which is fighting malware. The subscription model will help us to be sustainable for the future while staying true to our roots that we will always make malware cleanup free for everyone.

We will continue to honor existing lifetime licenses, meaning any users that already have a lifetime license for 1.x will continue to have a lifetime license for 2.x. We'll be offering a few thousand more lifetime licenses during launch as well. On top of all of that, new subscription licenses will be valid for 3 PCs, not just 1.

If you're considering pulling the trigger on Malwarebytes Pro and would like a lifetime license, don't wait too long.

$10 off by ordering through this link: https://www.techoffe...imalware-discount-40

Really appreciate this info bwm1100.  I Mistakenly thought I had the Lifetime License... when it was only the Home License.

yes, but the reality seems to be different - the Europens getting less than claimed, the US version getting much more - at least is was for the expample given last year (according to the links I gave). I have no idea why this was the case - doesnt make any sense to me, but there you go.

I'm skeptical of US mainstream media. It's legal in the US to lie in the news.

Also, any car can get better/worse mileage depending on a variety of factors.

But... you also have the problem of the manufacturers lying... There are no easy answers and finding out the truth is at best difficult.

It is also legal in the US to lie most anywhere else.  If you put a disclaimer in microscopic print on TV or in print it's legal.
If you nonchalantly say this new drug could actually kill you it's legal.  Is the US alone?  I don't think so.

Seems to be a lot more killer-drugs lately though.  Maybe it's the US way to fixing our ailing Social Security system?
By thinning the herd of baby-boomers getting set to retire?  Hopefully just coincidence or bad timing.

Now I didn't know that jet fuel and diesel were alike. Never too late to learn something new  :)

They both have that sweet smell of kerosene (yuk) but that's it.  Jet-A1 (commercial) or JP5 (military) are way too dry (less oil) to use in a diesel engine.
If you did... you would be replacing fuel pumps on a regular basis.  ;D

If anyone has had their mouse pointer skip across the screen or stop entirely try pulling the USB connector out, wait around 5 seconds, and plug it back in.
The wait allows your machine time to discover the removal and rediscover when plugged back in.

@C - I think it may be your machine. I just went over and everything works fine there for me.

Try closing and reopening your browser and try again.

Sometimes (very rarely) the forum gets confused about a posting, times out on the upload, and then won't let you post because it's still in limbo on the screen refresh. If that's the case, just copy what you wanted to post, go back to the forum home, then return to the topic, paste your comment back in and post it again.
Luck!.

Before starting this topic I: closed browser, ran disk cleanup and deleted cookies, ran quick virus and mal scans.  (Nothing)
Just now tried again but no change.

The plot thickens... tried another outdated :-\ topic of mine 'ZOOM setting reminder', in General Software Discussions, and it works fine.
Maybe this is Area Specific@DC... for only me?  I dislike being the center of attention anywhere.  ;D  This is frustrating at best.

BTW maybe one of the admins can/will move this thread to Posting 101, where it really should be, and delete this sentence. =)

As far as sock-puppeting, how do you prove it?

I had/have PM's from my presumed-perp but *the top of the ladder* refused to access them.  Even with my permission to do so.

Re-telling what was said doesn't work because none of the questionable posts were included in the original PM's.  :-\

Even a PM isn't conclusive, and just from my perspective from different altercations that I've had here and elsewhere, IMO private messages should stay just that... private.  Unless it is very above the shade abusive, the PM system is in place for a reason, and to violate that without *both* parties' consent goes outside the lines of what is reasonable.

What is 'very above the shade abusive' to you?   :tellme:

Shorter?  Geez.  Sorry to waste your time... twice.

... First, to respond to the wording comment, I was trying to reply to your note earlier, and didn't predict this exact reply.
How could you know what sets people off?  Sadly... once my fuse is lit... there's no puting it out. :(

2. Notice it is a QuickMeme copy of the actual blog comedy entry.
Finally looked up Meme and it means what I thought it meant... though I had to read definition 1a more than once.   ;D

...DonationCoder is full of Smart People.
I agree.

I'm the resident idiot...
Disagree.

I agree that "27bslash6" is a pretty obscure name if you don't know it. Let's look at it.
http://www.27bslash6.com/overdue.html - the "Spider" joke
One persons obscure is another persons unique.  The original spider is much cuter.   :)

Whenever you see a joke, always nuke the long address and go back to the "top level".
Good advice... I'll try to remember this.

...let's look at one of your more disturbing notes.

"Thanks for bringing me back to the reality of DC.  Where some replies are genuine and others are not.  Readers choice.

With this in mind... how can anyone presume they're getting semi-accurate info about anything ... .

Including any *free software* that's offered.  No wonder it's free... you could end up more screwed than you were before.
But hey... it's free... sucker.

Jokers in this thread are going to be jerkers elsewhere.  Guess there's no such thing as Donation Refunds. "

Elsewhere you asked about a "Jerk Filter". DC is in my top-2 info sites. They handle "jerks" in different ways. Slashdot has a "mod" filter. People can "Mod Down" the worst of the trolls and "Mod Up" the better responses. There's some bias, and problems, but it sorta works. Here, Mouser moves the more contentious stuff to something called the "Basement".
As far as the reality of DC...
I PM'd a mod about my persumed clone issue, before I went to the top, but she didn't see how it could be avoided.

DC's Jerk Filter is very effective and quick when it's a spammer.

I like the Basement.

Next, look at ID's. DC is small enough where you can begin to notice who posts what. The same 50 people account for 75+% of the posts here. So it's not "JohnDoe137" with two posts - it's someone with ____ other posts that prove they're not throwaway accounts.
I check ID's. Sometimes bios and there's all types: Informative; grain-of-salt; highly-techno; friendly-techno; wordy; 1-liners; nothing ..

Now, let's talk about "Free Software". I for one am a bit upset about you/user feeling "suckered". A ton of Free Software is made because we're pissed at people/groups like Microsoft charging $100+ for a Spreadsheet program in MS Office. So minor details aside, the five-ish free/cheaper alternatives are pretty good.

Lots of smaller Free Software gets made just because "Computing is Hard" and you just shouldn't have to pay for *every single line of code* you need. One of the legendary events here is "New Apps for the New Year", where people present little project software for free. No strings. Just because they think someone will like it. Or look at the Coding Snacks. You need a dirt-simple tool, but you can't code - you post it as a snack. Someone bangs it out in 30 lines of code in a couple of days.
I agree, Tao, the word "sucker" was a bit harsh.  I don't really feel 'suckered'.  The acronym ending was enough and I don't want my donation back.

The concept of Free Software is great!  I know about NANY's.

Whew!

Does that help?

Yours,

--Tao
Ditto!

Hell yeah it helps.  It'll help me think twice before I quote you again.  ;D  Just kidding.   :P

Best-

What are you going on about? David Thorne writes humorous articles. They're almost certainly not true, but that doesn't make them any less funny.
Maybe I'm being too critical.  I never thought any of this was true.  And yes... they're funny.

Nah, don't feel used. *We're* the ones publishing it here!
This got me started.  If this had said republished... that would have been the end.  This sentence, as is, implies it was published by someone at DC.

Mr. Thorne didn't publish his own stuff in this thread or say...
This brand of humor doesn't appeal to me so I didn't know there was an actual Mr. Thorne.  I only viewed what the DC thread-link sent me to.

...How does that reflect poorly on DonationCoder or the software being offered/discussed here?
Who really knows how anyone gets their jollies.

And how does that make you feel used...
Guess there's no relyable *jerk filter* on any site.  It's readers choice.

To this day I believe I've/we've been punked here.**  PM's only brought hatred and name-calling towards me.
The powers that be, at DC, don't seem to care or don't want to rock the boat?  So be it.
The suspicious behavior seems to have stopped but this only reinforces my view.

This isn't Facebook... this is DonationCoder.
Where some non-geeks come seeking assistance.  Good or bad it may be a starting point or different perspective they may not have had.

**Possible multiple ID's was the issue and the reason I'm jaded.  Cloned advice sux any way you look at it.   :(

Living Room / Re: Seriously, Youtube is becoming impossible!
« Last post by crabby3 on February 02, 2014, 09:53 AM »
Has YouTube made some major changes recently?

Because the FF Adblock Plus browser extension always used to do a good job of eliminating them. It's true those miserable adverts will reappear every so often. But the developer stays on top of things and updates regularly. So whenever adverts change tactics, the very next update to ABP (or one of its filter subscriptions) starts catching them. At least so far. Worst case (for me) has been having to put up with those ads for about a day before they magically vanish once again.

I take Adblock Plus for granted so much that I'm always stunned at what places like YouTube get up to whenever I use a browser that doesn't have it. Which is why Adblock Plus (and NoScript ) are the first extensions I load whenever I'm installing Firefox.

ABP and NoScript are two extensions I also regularly send in a contribution for. I'd have gone crazy by now without them. ;D

Note: There's also versions available for Chrome and K-Meleon :-* if you're not a Firefox user.

Just watched the Adblock Plus video but it only showed popups being blocked.  Does it block those translucent buggers that rise up from the bottom?

Firefox, Chrome, Android, Opera, IE and Safari versions are now offered.  Still free.  Didn't see K-Meleon.
