DC Gamer Club / Re: Sniper Elite V2 free on Steam for one day
« Last post by mouser on June 04, 2014, 12:33 PM »
DC member Skwire and I have been playing through the co-op campaign sporadically over the last couple of months.  It's two-player only online co-op playing through the entire first-person game.

As someone who doesn't play multiplayer online games much at all, I have to say I have never had a better time playing an online game.  If you love sniper games, this is an amazing one, and the 2-player online co-op is a joy to play with a friend.  Slow paced, methodical, atmospheric, tense, the whole kit.

ps. Sniper Elite v3 comes out this month.

Disabling it is a good first step -- it will determine if that is the cause.  If so, then one can see if perhaps it just needs a longer delay.  I'm trying to think why i even need a user delay settings and why i can't just check to see if it's all black and wait longer..  Anyway, first things first -- let's see if it's the Aero capture attempt that causing the problem.

Try this:
Go to the options tab labeled "Window Capturing 1" and uncheck the box marked "Try to capture Aero Glass transparency effects".

See if that solves it.

That's a lot of links Panzer -- care to point us to your favorites?

I picked one at random to watch: Tomek BagiƄski - Teaching Infinity.

Pretty surreal but pretty cool.

Something I would be very wary of is buying a car where it is hard to get parts for.
Definitely.

However, for me the ship has sailed and I'm trying not to think about what I should have done differently.  I do love the car, so there is that.
7663
The mechanic who inspected it (who knew i would not be hiring him to do any work so had no incentive to mislead), gave me an estimate of about $1600 of work that should be done.

That includes $400 for new rear tires.

The main expensive thing it needs is new shocks (one is leaking).  Unfortunately the front shocks are rare and have no aftermarket replacement.

This car is a 2008 Suzuki SX4 AWD Hatchback, and Suzuki have left the US market.  I have searched, researched and confirmed there are no aftermarket equivalent front struts-- which I find crazy, but I'm not a car person.

The pair of (front) shocks themselves will cost $400 just for the parts which will have to be sent from europe.  The mechanic's estimate for parts and labor to install them was $900.

REPAIR UPDATE:
  • Alignment complete, steering wheel now centered and driving well.
  • Bad TPMS sensor identified and replaced, and sensors re-learned (after only 30 tries of performing secret car handshakes over the course of a week).
  • Shocks: TBD.
  • Tires: TBD.

that means you've toggled it off (so it won't capture clips currently).
to turn it back on, right click and you should see a menu item near top to toggle it back on.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Disable Ctrl Q
« Last post by mouser on May 30, 2014, 06:42 AM »
Ok I'm convinced, I will change it in next release and make Ctrl+Q do nothing.

Why do we need Ctrl+Q if we have DEL that does the same thing?
The rationale would be that the delete key is context-sensitive.  Depending on where you are in the user interface it will do different things; wheras a hotkey to delete the current image should work in multiple places.  But perhaps it isn't needed..

Sad to hear that the icon issue is about to drop from your radar.
To be honest, i suppose adding an option to use large icons (32x32 instead of the default 16x16) on the TOOLBARS would not be so difficult, so I will put it back on the radar.

What would help, too - if we had shortcuts to switch between arrow and textbox and cliparts and object selector.

Certainly that I can add.

The Codymobile has been purchased.

The bad news is it was above my budget, and needs some repairs.  The good news is I love it.

Thank you so much to everyone who sent me a contribution to be able to purchase it.  I would not have been able to buy it if not for your help.

Stay tuned for photos!

And now this thread can metamorphose into the fundraiser to repair the CodyMobile

Living Room / Re: TrueCrypt is Now Abandonware?!

What the heck!?!?!?
Bizarre. I can't wait to hear more about this.

From the boingboing page, this sums up my reaction:

"The Sourceforge project page for Truecrypt now sports a cryptographically signed notice that Truecrypt should no longer be used as it is not secure. The news came on the heels of a crowdfunded $70K security audit of the open source, anonymously maintained software giving it a relatively positive initial diagnosis. The announcement -- signed by the same key that has been used to sign previous, legitimate updates -- links Truecrypt's deprecation to Microsoft's decision to cease supporting Windows XP, though no one seems to have a theory about how these two facts relate to one another."

What about those nice big aftermarket rear view mirrors that clip on and reduce blindspots (they have some addons for side mirrors too).

I'm driving down to chicago to finalize the deal for the Codymobile tomorrow -- wish me luck!

If all goes well, stay tuned for some photos this weekend.

Now to get a DC decal made..

I have found one of very the best ways to help new coders become better is to tell them to focus like a laser on ELIMINATING DUPLICATE CODE.

This is especially true because it's very natural for beginning coders to repeat big chunks of code, and the simple act of forcing them to eliminate duplicate code -- either by changing the structure of conditionals and control structures, or by using functions -- does wonders to improve the quality of code.

It is also very helpful as a pedagogical tool (teaching aid) because it can be otherwise difficult to explain to a new coder when and where they should use functions -- wheras anyone can visually see when they have repeated big blocks of text.
