Living Room / Re: I had the strangest dream last night...
« Last post by Deozaan on December 07, 2008, 08:30 AM »
No, I think I had the strangest dream last night.

I dreamed that I was brushing my teeth. Then as I was brushing my teeth I realized that my armpits were sweaty because I was a little hot. And apparently I didn't have a shirt on because the next action I took was to take my toothbrush out of my mouth and start brushing my armpits.

Then sanity and logic returned to me (sort of) and I realized what I was doing and that toothbrushes were meant for teeth and not armpits. So then I started to become very concerned about getting the toothbrush back in my mouth where it belonged but I didn't know how I was going to do that because I couldn't put it back in my mouth after it had been in my sweaty armpit. So then I put soap on my toothbrush and started rubbing it into the bristles. Then I realized that I couldn't just put it back in my mouth with soap all over it. It was a conundrum that I could not figure out.

Luckily I either woke up soon after that or just dreamed about something else, because I don't remember what happened next.

This is a true story. I really did dream that 24 hours ago when I was sleeping. Beat that!

But I think I need a new toothbrush, just to be on the safe side...

Living Room / Funny, Strange, and Confusing Error Messages
« Last post by Deozaan on December 07, 2008, 08:15 AM »
I thought for certain that we had a thread like this before but I couldn't find it. And rather than resurrect two similar threads from last year (here and here) I decided to start a new one.

The general idea of this thread is to post screen shots of any genuine error messages you've come across that are funny, strange, absolutely not at all helpful, or even confusing. I'll start off.

I encountered this one a few days ago. I can't remember what application I was running at the time, but I think it was one of those free MMO games.

Useless Error Message.jpg

This one I got a couple years ago and once again I can't remember what application it came from.

Big Error.gif

And finally, this is one I didn't personally witness, but an online friend of mine sent me the image of this even more years ago. I believe this was a message that occurred during the installation of some software he owned.

Ignorance is Bliss by Jellyfish. This animation isn't the original/official music video, and I think the animator decided to make some stupid political commentary at the beginning (and throughout) about oil companies, but the song itself and the animation are quite good. YouTube version is here but the NewGrounds version is much higher quality.

EDIT: Embedded video directly into post.

Zelda CD-i Remix: Drop the Dodongo. The vocals were taken from the terrible Legend of Zelda games on the CD-i. There's also a version of the song with the animation from the actual games here.

The sad thing is that the animation for the remix is better than what you see on the real games.

Kind of NSFW because they edit the audio to change "for luck" into "for luck."

EDIT: embedded the video directly into the post.

Looks nice... but why oh why do people insist on releasing applications like this in localized versions? ENGLISH PLEASE! >_<

That's an interesting perspective from someone who's native language isn't English. I'd expect that from an ethnocentric American, but I never thought I'd hear that from a foreigner.

God help me this isn't the music i normally listen to but something about this video is hypnotizing  for some mystery reason:
http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=-1TPGgpSDVs

I know the reason. It's because the dark haired girl has a freakishly gigantic mouth and you just can't stop yourself from getting lost gazing in disgust and wonder at her the entire video. Seriously, how do you get a mouth that big? :tellme:

Finally, one of the strangest and most moving videos I've ever seen by Unkle called, Rabbit in your Headlights.

Yeah this is a great one. I've been a fan of Radiohead (whose lead singer, Thom Yorke, lends his vocals for Rabbit in Your Headlights) and when I heard this song, I purchased album. It's Psyence Fiction. The entire album is great, except for two songs (Drums of Death pts. 1 & 2) that were removed from my MP3 collection because I don't particularly care for rap.

Not only is the song cryptic and strange, but the video adds an entirely new dimension to the audio.

that was heavy going, really shocking really, glad something "good" happened in the end

Not sure I'd really call it a good ending, but I suppose you feel the same way and that's why you put it in quotes. ;)

That pic reminds me of Valde (Our old insane cat that would attack anything if you were within 1 meter of him)
Not sure why your cat's name reminded me of this one, but we used to have a cat named Katze. :)
Probably because "Valde" kan be pronounzed so it sounds pretty Gerrrrman?

Exactly. The way I mentally pronounced "Valde" reminded me of a German exchange student we called Walde (pronounced Vahl-Dee) who my family hosted when I was a young child. Then this line of thought reminded me of our cat named "Katze" which is German for "cat."

I'm sure you knew that (about the word "Katze"), but I thought I'd explain for anyone else who didn't know.

This verbiage on this one is actually quoted differently depending on the source, but this is how I first heard it.

Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: Screen saver that isn't a screen saver...

Windows used to have one that would just kind of distort the screen with a fish-eye lens that moved around the screen. You might try looking for something like that.

My wife gave me permission to get a Drobo last year, but I decided not to because it was expensive and she didn't fully realize what it was. (She thought it was a complete computer instead of just for hard drives.)

I'm not sure if this counts since it may not be considered computer hardware/peripheral, but this year I would like a Skype WiFi phone. Specifically, this one: Belkin WiFi Phone. It's like a cell phone but it connects to whatever WiFi internet connection it can so you can take your Skype on the go, and not be stuck with using a headset on your computer all the time. I miss a lot of calls because if I'm not at my computer with my headset on, I won't hear the "ringing" of Skype.

Wow, that seems extremely ambitious - I hope they manage to complete it, and that Valve doesn't shut them down. Even if they've done all new models, textures and maps, it's still very based on the original HL1.

The article hints that Valve may hire the team. Whether or not that's true, Valve is aware of it and seems to have given the go-ahead, as they already had them rename it from Black Mesa: Source to just Black Mesa so that it didn't look like an official Valve project.

You can forward all your Gmail to your pop3 account or just download it all via pop3. It's in the settings menu and there have been discussions about it here in the past warning to use this method to backup your e-mail due to Gmail accounts mysteriously disappearing.

I don't know much about VB but the general idea I'd go with would be to put them in an array or a stack at the beginning of the quiz and pop them out when they are used.
