Screenshot Captor / Re: Capture only part of a scrolling window
« Last post by mouser on July 07, 2014, 10:25 AM »
You move the red box initially to cover the area of the screen that the content will be scrolling through -- so usually it will cover the entire size of the window on the screen; you will be able to trim off scrollbars and stuff later so don't even worry about that.  The fact that you almost always want to capture the entire window contents is why normally you leave the red box to autosize to the window.

Then you follow the instructions and scroll the contents of the window with the mouse or keys, and hit prtscr after each scroll.

Did you watch the video here: https://www.donation...c/3ds/sc29/sc29.html

In the end Screenshot Captor will stitch all the images together and let you tweak how they are stitched.

Something must be unusual about your system.. Did you use the installer or the portable version?
Did you copy over an installation (or configuration settings) from another computer?

It sounds like you are saying it installed ok but gives this error when it runs.  The behavior you are describing sounds to me like the problem is that it is trying to save its settings (and the screenshot folder) on a disk that it can't access.

If you have not copied settings from another machine:  Exit Screenshot Captor, then edit the ConfigDir.ini file in the Screenshot Captor install directory and provide it with a legal place where it can store your settings (make sure to remove the // comment characters when you do).

Let us know if it works.

Just saw Blue Ruin, a great thriller about revenge.

[EDIT: Don't read the blurbs or watch the trailers, go into it knowing nothing]

Highly recommended low-budget low-key movie.  No real twists or surprise endings, just a slow, steady, satisfying burn.

The manual capture mode is brand new, and could use some refinement; the red box disappears but the area you selected the first time is the area used during the capture, even though the red box is no longer shown.
(I'll try to fix that and leave the red box on screen for the next release).

When I click Button 2 and follow the instructions , I do not get a red rectangle whose width and length
that I can change by "pulling on its corner", so that reshapes up/down and left/right to capture the screen area that I want
to capture.

By default the red box will be in OBJECT mode which will autosize to the window region defined by the window control under the cursor automatically.
But if you click on the gear button in the top left you can switch it out of Object selection mode and then resize that window to the exact size and position you want.

So I've had a few reports recently about people being unable to paste their license key into the license key dialog of Screenshot Captor, and I haven't been able to think of why that's happening.

In the lastest case, they were getting the blank captures after install, which was confirmed to be the known problem with some over-eager security utility blocking the capturing of screenshots (see https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=20962.0 and https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=35475.0).

Which got me wondering.. is it possible that it's the security program blocking the pasting of an email snippet into a target application?

Does anyone know any mainstream security utilities that do this?

It might be nice to see a video of this in action to get a feel for how it works.. There are some free screencasting tools you could use.

Ok but also let me remind everyone that we try to avoid talking politics on the forum, so let's try to avoid generic political debates here.

It's a fascinating idea that an old transcript could have an error that gets passed down through the years -- and a fascinating idea that a punctuation change could make a dramatic difference.
On closer inspection, however, it looks like just that -- a cool idea that's too tempting to pass up, even if it doesn't amount to anything.
Period or not -- i don't see any change at all in meaning -- which is still very much in the eye of the beholder.
Whether there is a period in that spot or not is purely stylistic -- i see no way to credibly argue that it changes any meaning or even any emphasis.

So I went back out today (next day), to finish up the digging.
My little bird friend was back!

This time he came over to me with a beak full of worms and tried a different approach -- i think he was trying to teach me how to get my own worms.  He would drop a worm near me and then pick it right back up.
I think we was saying: hey big dumb creature, you are doing a great job of digging up worms but you don't seem to know what to do next.

Let me look into it this weekend and try to see what could be causing it -- I might ask you to try a beta version if you don't mind.

I just tested it here and it seems persistent.. Not sure why it wouldn't be for you.  Have you tested to see if any other options are being saved?

I spent this morning digging a trench in our front yard to lay bricks.
A bird came by and was really excited about all the worms we were digging up.
He had like 3 in his mouth and was bouncing around.
Then he came over to me and gave me one of his worms!
He was like "THANKS FOR ALL THE WORMS HERE HAVE ONE KTHX BYE".

if I select Option 3, but that option scrolls through the entire window, and it saves it as a picture that is
shrunk vertically to fit on one page when printed.

sounds like you may not have most recent version.

indeed option 3 is what you should choose, and then you should get a dialog that lets you select to do a manual scroll.

Welcome to the site, Narny!
Contro -- the nice thing about Narny's solution is you can modify and extend it to do other things later.  Since you frequently need to do text manipulation, why not invest some time and learn a little perl so you can write your own scripts for such things?

can you check if this might be causing the problem: "It is a directory that is inside of my Google Drive directory"
try putting it somewhere more traditional and see if it fixes the problem.. if so i can try to diagnose the issue.

What operating system?
Did you run the installer or are you using portable version?
If portable version or if you custimized save location, is the file being saved in a directory you have normal write access to?
Did you copy settings from one computer to another?
