The Getting Organized Experiment of 2006 / Re: how to have a more efficient day
« Last post by brotherS on October 07, 2006, 05:24 AM »
brotherS, i get the impression you've been ignoring the DC GTD Experiment area of the forum. if so, any reason why?
Hi nudone! I tried to read as many of the postings as I could. I'm busy getting things done and couldn't add any more value to what I read. I think I'm on to something regarding the "I'd like to buy some discipline please" problem you posted about, I will post about that later this month.

General Software Discussion / Re: Dual servers with Miranda

Selecting one server instead of "random server" should work.

I've been testing rtm since yesterday, and i've come to the conclusion that it's very reliable, i just send it a mail with the right parameters and at the right time i'll have a guy in my msnmessenger telling me i need to get stuff done. That's VERY cool :D
Thanks for the reminder! I just read the very helpful http://www.rememberthemilk.com/help/ again and added my personal RTM email to Google Mail. Adding tasks by email works great!
754
I'm sorry for you...
And here you go again...

I updated the screenshots in my first post, many of the old ones became offline. I still love using Miranda every day! If you didn't tried it before, use it to visit DC's IRC channel!

Meanwhile, Locate is at version 3.0 beta 6.9030, and I still love it!

Netflix is holding a 1 million dollar contest awarded to the coder who can betst improve their movie recommendation engine.
What a great idea! I read articles in the past that Netflix seems to be innovative (I'm no customer nor related to them) and this proves it. By running the contest until "at least October 2, 2011" they show they really plan to spend the million to gain a 10% performance win, and I also like the idea of their "Progress Prizes: $50,000 (USD) Cash each award", which is handed out once a year for those who are improving the performance the most, but not reaching the 10% hurdle.

@Gerome: we'd still accept you if you'd show less negativity, really!
758
Gerome, don't be hatin'! 8)

It's a great, free service - it must be the DIGG effect, normally the site is pretty fast.

http://www.rememberthemilk.com/ has been recognized not as the most simple, but as the most powerful online reminder service. What I like best (next to the powerful keyboard shortcuts that are similar to those in Google Mail) is that you can set it to send you IM reminders (ICQ, AIM, ...) when a task is due. That's really cool when you work with computers, and even *more* cool when using Miranda with the OSD plugin (OSD=On-Screen Display, like channel number and volume on the screen of a TV set)!

Since 1 year has now passed since my original post I'm trying to revive this thread - in the hope one coder out there might pick up on this...

Recently I found out that for all stream URLs that end with the port number (example: http://www.destroyer.net:8800/) you can access the stream info by just adding "/7.html)" at the end (example: http://www.destroyer.net:8800/7.html) to easy pull the info what is being played right now. I don't know how the coders formerly active on this tool did it, but this surely is a better way than to load the stream itself to get this info.

So, where's the coder willing to bring this to a new level? I got to hand out some DonationCredits! 8)

I love DimSaver, if only it would run perfectly here (W2k). Skrommel never found the bug that the previous versions (that I don't have anymore) hadn't... so if you have older DimSaver versions, please send 'em over :)

yes, with keyconfig extension.
Thanks, I'd like to use that with my Firefox 1.5.0.6, but...

Oh my...  ;D

I think now it's YOUR turn to post screenshots, where you highlight stuff or use arrows and numbers etc. :) Screenshot Captor is a good tool for that.  8)

General Software Discussion / Firefox: how to disable one single keyboard shortcut?
« Last post by brotherS on September 12, 2006, 04:15 AM »
Hi,

I'd like to disable "Restore Text Size" that is executed when I press Ctrl+0. Is this somehow possible?
764
brotherS: Good extension. This is copied fron HitAHint though and of course made better. Can you confirm that this doesn't work properly and as expected in Google image search pages (try going to next page or the id of say, 3rd or 4th page of the results)?
Strange, you are right... you can report that bug and hope for a fix.
765
Oh, I see. The main purpose of disabling updating for a database is if you would like Locate to search the database of a disconnected drive, for example a USB backup HD. That way you can search for its contents while it's not connected.

If Locate is updating its regular databases for all local files every few hours you should only rarely see "old/moved" files as results.
766
Hi and welcome to the site!

Maybe you didn't fully grasp the concept of Locate? Since it's so blazing fast because it accesses databases of your files those databases need to be updated. Check the screenshot of the "Auto Update" tab in https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1385.0 (last screenshot in my posting). If you didn't add any scheduled updates there, just do that.

Enjoy! :)

Wow, this is really great! Thanks!!

This is sooo simple, but so cool im actually using it to read T&C agreements at 835 WPM, with total comprehension (well as much comprehension you can get with a T&C agreement. (i think any faster my head will explode like the bloke in scanners).

If your soundcard is a Creative (compatible) one you should also know about http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/intro.php - I saved the profiles for my input/output needs and use AutoHotkey to switch between the two I use most with a simple hotkey.

This site looks good.
Yes - but they only compare software to buy, no freeware :(

But I wonder why they keep different areas as different domain names...
Easy - to get better Google results.

Too bad I don't have a use for such a tool, but I sure was using programs that could have used it...

Update: Searches like *URL.txt;*lol*.jpg work in the latest beta now!

I must have misread that.  I thought you meant that it would search for both *URL.txt and *lol*.jpg at the same time.  It doesn't seem to, using Version 3.0 beta 5.10100.  Is that correct?
It works and always worked here, I use exactly that feature several times every week. In the "Advanced" tab, I have only the first option checked - you too?

But why are you using an old beta? I use 2.99.6.7240.

When I finally saw the movie for the first time, I was awestruck. I have never seen a movie where the soundtrack fit in quite like this one.
I had to think about Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) when I read your words.

You might not like its soundtrack, but you should like its tagline:

"Live by the code. Die by the code."

*I still prefer Alizee's magic.
You mean the kind of we-need-more-close-up-shots-of-her-ass-goddammit!!-magic? :D

The timing is done really well so that's the real talent, plus the design of the garments. It's all about timing really.
Reminds me of "the only difference between salad and garbage is timing!" ;)

« Last post by brotherS on July 17, 2006, 01:41 PM »
Nice review!

I'm using Zoom Player (the free version) for years now, but only for video files. It's not perfect, but great, I especially love how you are able to assign mouse and keys to various options.

I still prefer the Swiss Army Knife approach of Winamp when it comes to audio, as I stated in some related post. :)
