General Software Discussion / Re: Easiest replacement for windows system restore?
« Last post by masu on March 26, 2008, 04:03 PM »
The best and most reliable I've found is Acronis True Image.  For a similar application that is free, you could try DriveImage XML, but that is much slower and less versatile than Acronis. Besides, Acronis can be had pretty inexpensively.  Shop around and make sure to check both Newegg.com and Amazon.com.

Jim

Acronis would be also my suggestion

Hello,

I am looking for Software with Apple like easy interface..

something like

  • iTunes
  • Picasa
  • Piclens Plugin for Firefox

Do you know more?

In my humble opinion,  http://www.piclens.com/site/firefox/win/ should be in that list right at the top.

I absolutely agree with you.
Piclens is an outstanding plugin for FF.  :-*

Burn to the Brim is an open-source freeware program designed to make selection of files to optimally fill a CD a breeze.

Thanks for the Alt+... tricks. I didn't have a clue. Probably because I didn't need it. :-\

But a serious question now. Before I start, I've contacted The Bat! and Bitdefender, both couldn't be a***d to reply.

How do I get BD (AV scan only, newest version, paid for) to scan incoming and outgoing mail in The Bat? It scans everything else, even that childish 'reach a mail' that I use on the thumb drive out of space reasons (Thunder 20 MB, reach...2.5MB). In a weak moment of insanity I even tried it with OE....and fruiting h**l it scanned the mail.

I've tried the so called plug ins that I could find on the internet (most are very old and consist of a dll) but nothing worked, of course.  :(

Oh forgot: Win XP SP2, all updates, real too

thanks for the hint
How can I UNDO this ALT+... trick?

Living Room / Re: Best Freeware FTP client?
« Last post by masu on December 14, 2007, 08:56 AM »
In earlier times I prefer SmartFTP. But since you need to update SmartFTP every now and then, otherwise you can't start it anymore, I switch over to Filezilla, which is also really good !!

I just reboot, if I need to (e.g. due to software updates)

Well... And even if they worked, you need iTunes installed anyway. There's no such thing as what nontroppo comments for Windows (I'm surprised Apple made something like that)

As for other sources, check out the software recommended by f0dder and Dirhael, or if you're using Mp3tag, hit their forums, and specially this post and this other one to add support for downloading cover art from Amazon, Wal-Mart and Darktown (these ones are almost 1000x1000!). Some other threads have web sources from other less "legal" sites, but cover downloading fall by its nature in a bit of a grey area, anyway :)

thanks for your hint
I use MP3 Tag and now also included the Cover in the MP3'S
