Screenshot Captor / Re: Capture only part of a scrolling window
« Last post by mouser on July 15, 2014, 06:43 PM »
was that ever implemented where a scrolling capture could be saved to multiple images?
no, but now might be a good time to revive the request.

you have posted the technique that I have used in the past when i needed to print out a long capture on multiple pages -- by using the "poster" function in the printer.

note that asking SC to save a scrolling capture to multiple images will NOT result in as good a breakup of pages as a poster printing function will do in your printer driver, since the pagebreaks may not fall locally.

however, another option would be to add a more involved function to SC that would print to multiple pages (or split to multiple pages) based on some aspect ratio page size.. still, poster printing option in your printer driver seems the best and most general solution.

Would you mind installing one of my other programs, so we could see if its something more general and not specifically related to Screenshot Captor?

First of all let me say I appreciate your patience and not giving up.
It will be interesting when we find the cause of this problem -- I'm sure it will help someone else.

Let's pursue the theory that the problem is that it can't save it's configuration files.
And so let's try this:
  • Download the PORTABLE zip version.
  • Unzip this into a directory that you know you have write access to (C:\Users\MilaH\Documents maybe or some other place similar).
  • Try running that portable version, which should try to keep all of its files in that same directory.

Screen blink three or four times and icon  go out from system tray

Can you check to make sure it's not just hidden from tray -- If you hit PrtScr button, it doesn't bring up the program or play the capture sound -- or just check if ScreenshotCaptor.exe is running in task list.

Can you find and delete the ScreenshotCaptor.ini settings file"? It should be in your MyDocuments\DonationCoder\ScreenshotCaptor folder.
If you don't find it -- that would suggest the problem is about saving your settings file.

You want to change the file format going forward right -- for screenshots taken subsequent to the commandline invocation -- yes?

Those are excellent and clear instructions.
Initially I thought from reading the instructions that the problem might be that in my previous testing I was not using the post-capture-automatic-copy-to-clipboard function.

However, I cannot reproduce the problem when I follow these instructions.  Pasted images appear the same in both cases.

I used MS Word. Using latest version of Screenshot Captor.
Anyone else?

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to install screenshot captor in that location, so that should not be the cause of problems.

Perhaps the problem is caused by where Screenshot Captor is trying to save it's configuration files.  By default this will be in your MyDocuments\DonationCoder\ScreenshotCaptor directory.

Can you exit SC, and edit the ConfigDir.ini file in the Screenshot Captor directory and point it to a different directory that you know you have write-permissions on (make sure to remove the // at the start of the line telling it where the configuration directory is).

Does anyone else have a Windows 8 machine they can test on and let us know what happens with Screenshot Captor?
Mila, did you run the setup program to install it to the default location or did you use the portable version?

is there a way I can sort the images before merging them into a pdf.
unfortunately not :(
i know it may seem crazy that there is no way to set the order, but the pdf creation in SC is just meant for a quick and dirty operation.

Back in the 1980s I made a ton of beer and mead.  I have to say that the mead was the most satisfying -- only because as good as the beer was, and as fun as it was to make, it didn't rival the best store bought beer.

But the cranberry mead I made felt like something really special.

That's an awesome solution because others can use them to to work on any ms word file that uses bookmarks -- well done

Firstly, Mouser is clearly one of the greatest individuals of all time! I hope it is known to anyone or anything that ever lives with Mouser that he is never to be hassled with thing like sock pickup, dish cleaning, or anything else at that level.

Ha! I'll have to print that out in case I need it to help me get out of some chores  ;D

First thing might be to watch the demo of SCANNER functions in Screenshot Captor:
https://www.donation...c/3ds/sc13/sc13.html

The Scanner toolbar can be used to descew and similar operations even when using Screenshot Captor to capture from a video camera (which you can do).

Screenshot Captor will also let you select a bunch of images and merge into one pdf.
