Is there a possibility to put the focus back to the last active window?

it's a very good idea -- i will try.

$uniquenum$ adds a counter with three digits.
What will happen if I capture more than that amount?
I guess it will continue with 1000,... but the padding is not accurate any more.

correct.
however, keep in mind that for the padding to be "inaccurate" would require you to have screenshots with same name past 9999 counter.

I can imagine such little cross-hair buttons on the MiniCap window, to drag&drop onto the window in question to show the wanted details...

minicap does have something like this already -- it can start up and let the user select the object to capture using the redbox that automatically selects windows under cursor.

but it's not a bad idea to have that function report extra info about the window/process being selected.

John,

I was just talking to someone who wanted to be able to add a quick secondary alias for an existing built-in alias.  So for example instead of typing "search" to trigger the search alias, they want to just be able to type "s".

When thinking about their request and your points above, I wondered about creating a new tab called something like "Quick and Easy Aliases" or something like that.

It would be a tab with one big text box, and some instructions, and you would just use it to specify quick easy aliases like:
"s search
"ff firefox.exe"

It wouldn't have a list of items to click to edit in a separate dialog -- it would just be one large text box, only suitable for quick and dirty specification of simple "aliases".

I wonder if you have any thoughts on whether that would help make it easier for people to quickly add simple common search aliases, etc.

Well, in fairness, that's not the notice they are sending to tell people they are being let go -- that would be evil.
But yea, this is what we call "burying the lead".

I'll have to play with it and report.. sometimes I feel like I don't know my own software   :-[

When I was very young I remember seeing a dog who had wheels instead of rear legs, and I cried because I felt bad for the dog.  But that was misguided.

The amazing thing about animals is that they don't feel bad for themselves or need our pitty -- they take it in stride and just get on with enjoying life.

This warmed my heart:

Although.. come on lady, sticks are free, it wouldn't hurt for you to have more than one.

I think something like this would work

AND CreationDateTime > DateTimeCurrent-3

I *THINK* that would work and give you three days back.
7435
you could put in a custom date expression if you wanted to get a very specific time period.

Nice (I'll still fix that bug you found).

Your comments about the difficulty in simple management of user aliases are on point -- it is something that could and should definitely be made easier.

Welcome to the site, John.

Very clear description of what certainly seems like a bug.

It always makes me happy to see people using some of the more unusual features of the program

To make sure I follow: The first alias works in all cases.. the second alias fails when you use Enter or double-click to launch .ahk files.  Correct?

The pintstripe and the lettering are both vinyl applications i put on (ordered lettering from doityourselflettering.com which was cheap and fast and good).

If I decide to keep long term maybe i will have a pro paint the pinstripe, which i think looks pretty good but would probably look better painted; they might also be able to make it curve around the front fender area, which i wasn't sure how to do with vinyl pinstripe tape.

The tiny Uncle Cody and Baby Cody tiny stickers are inside window film stuff that just sticks on from the inside and were cut from a larger sheet.  It would be reallly cheap for me to have a bunch of those printed and send them out to anyone who wanted them, if there is some interest -- because i could print a ton of them on one sheet of window film to cut out.

Can you download the beta version from:

This should fix the crash, but the real cause of the problem is something got messed up with your settings file (not your progress bar items but the visual and general options), causing many values to be blank.

What I think you should do is exit PBOL (make sure it is not running in task manager since the crashes could have left some copies running).
Then DELETE your ProgressBarsOfLife.ini file (MAKE A BACKUP SOMEWHERE FIRST!!!); That fie will be in MyDocuments\DonationCoder\ProgressBarsOfLife on windows 7 by default.
Then restart PBOL.

Your items will not be lost but you will have to reconfigure your docking preferences, etc.

Actually -- I've just received your files, and I get the access error myself with them when the program starts!
That's great news, because it means it's a clear reproducible error that I should be able to fix easily.
Standby, I'm working on it now.

Uninstall/Reinstall won't do anything.
You could exit, delete your settings file and your items file, IF you wanted to lose all of those and start from scratch, which might solve your crashing problem but would lose all your data.

Great to hear it's solved!  I guess you were right all along when you flagged avicap32.dll as the possible culprit early on -- i'm sorry i didn't pick up on that earlier.
Someone else may have similar problem and discover this thread, so it's not lost time

Yes, that was what I thought, but I could not figure out how come the "smart" paste works into OneNote but not into Word. Are not both pastes being made by CHS?

First thing to try always, is just copying and pasting using normal windows clipboard, Ctrl+C followed by Ctrl+V.

When you do that, CHS is totally out of the loop.  So that will show you what the programs can really put on, and retrieve from, the clipboard.  Some programs can put multiple versions of a clip into the clipboard, some versions with extra information that only certain applications know how to handle when it is pasted.

Once you do that, you might find that some applications put extra information into the clipboard that CHS does not perceive or store.  If you copy something to the clipboard (Ctrl+C) but then later paste it using the CHS quick paste menu, then you will see what CHS puts on the clipboard during the paste operation, and if it's less than a native Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V.

The program should not be crashing.  Are you using the latest version?
If its happening several times a day I will send you a debug version so we can try to track down the cause; email me ([email protected]).

Can you send me a copy of your ProgressBarsOfLife.ini file and ProgressBarsOfLife.itemxml file (make backups for yourself too), so i can see if its something about those files? ([email protected])

Ideally, I'd like the RTF Paste into Word to be "smart"
The RTF paste is a current limitation of CHS -- in that it only stores text and images, and not more elaborate clipboard datatypes.  That is on my todo list to improve.
