General Software Discussion / MOGware's FileHamster (Complaint)
« Last post by Deozaan on January 31, 2009, 04:46 PM »
It's been about a month since I did any coding on any projects I had set up with FileHamster to take care of revision history. Today I just started working on one and every time I save any file within the project FileHamster pops up a one second advertisement notification window.

Bad form, MOGware! Time to uninstall FileHamster.  :(

General Software Discussion / Re: Amazing games from coder Kenta Cho
« Last post by Deozaan on January 31, 2009, 01:34 PM »
I never really cared much about Shmups (shoot 'em ups) so I kind of ignored this thread when it originally surfaced. But I just tried out Kenta Cho's PARSEC47. I was hoping it was a remake of a shmup I loved as a youngling on our TI-99 called Parsec.

But anyway, back to Kenta Cho's PARSEC47. I only played it for about 15 minutes but it was pretty fun. Here's a screen shot of it:

I'm going to check out more of Kenta Cho's games now. Thanks for bringing this guy to my attention, Edvard!

That looks pretty good Ehtyar!

By the way, I just realized it's called "Cubeecraft."

My brother was just telling me one of those "You know what would be so cool?" ideas, and I thought that what he told me was perfect for a coding snack, so here goes.

He would like a utility that automatically gives focus to any window that the mouse is on top of. So in other words, whenever the mouse moves across the screen from one application to another, any application that is directly under the mouse should get focus.

This looks interesting. But the problem is that I only print things for school and they typically require Times New Roman.

Despite the negative attitude many people have towards the USPS, they can still hit most continental US addresses in 2-3 business days. In my home state (CT) 90% of the stuff I mail in the morning to CT addresses arrives the following business day.

This is off-topic, but the USPS may not be so reliable in the near future.

Postmaster General: Mail days may need to be cut.

Nice Goomba. I suppose a ? block would be perfect for Cubecraft.

I've had this papercraft dragon for several years. It makes a cool optical illusion when you build it. It's designed to make it look like the dragon's head turns to look at you wherever you move.

Download the PDF for a nice full resolution image for printing.

Cubecraft sounds a lot similar to papercraft, except papercraft isn't limited to boxy cube-y shapes.

Here's an example:

Not quite the same but this distro claims to have most Linux games pre-installed.

It doesn't have stuff like WesternQuake but it's a bit more convenient for those who don't really care for games like WoW: http://live.linux-gamers.net/?s=games

Wow. I hope those games work on Ubuntu. :)

We also use VoIP for all our Phone calls, which reduced our phone bill from hundreds to less than a hundred.

My wife and I were getting a really good deal on my mother's Family Plan cell phone service. But then my mother decided she wanted to switch carriers and spend $100 a month on a service that was only for one person instead of for 4 people, and she told us to find our own cell plan.

So we looked at our options of having cell phones or a land line, and ultimately decided to get neither of them. We bought a subscription to Skype and also "purchased" a phone number from them. Total cost = $60 for an entire year of phone service. $60 is about 2 months of land-line service here and just over a month of service on the most basic cell phone plan.

Not only is it nice to save all that money on phone service, but it's also very nice to never hear the phone ring. Life is so much simpler without a phone interrupting everything.  :-*

And this, kiddies, is an example of an ID10T error.

I blame Ehtyar who said "Problem exists in chair not in computer" just seconds in IRC before I wrote this. He mixed me up, honest! :-[

I wonder if it meets Ubuntu's requirements of "free."

Thanks for pointing this out. I'll likely be downloading it tomorrow once I get Ubuntu installed on my netbook.

Edit: Crap, I really need to know how to embed flash on forums. Any advise on what I did wrong?

You tried to embed flash on the forums. DC forums don't do that. Just do a screenshot and/or a link.

Two separate IM accounts. Just IM it to yourself.

Alternately, you could also e-mail it to yourself. But if you're doing that, you may as well use pastebin, which Ampa mentioned.

Exactly. The video is cute enough as it is. Why invent an obviously false story to go along with it?

Anti-virus programs have a habit of marking Auto Hot Key (AHK) scripts as viruses. We've also been trying to think of how to get them to stop it for a long time.

See this thread for more info: It's time to do something about these AutoHotkey antivirus false positives.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Alias: SokuGin - Some More Searches

.dcupdate file doesn't work.

Also, the zip file does not contain any path information. So to install people will need to manually create a SokuGin directory at the appropriate path described in the installation information.
