Mouser's Zone / Re: Suggestion: FAQ readonly forum (or webpage)
« Last post by Carol Haynes on October 11, 2005, 08:30 AM »
The advantage of a read only forum is that you could give some regulars who would like to help out access to the forum to add/edit/update articles.

Just a thought - and it would involve any scripting!

Mouser's Zone / Suggestion: FAQ readonly forum (or webpage)
« Last post by Carol Haynes on October 11, 2005, 08:17 AM »
Can I suggest a FAQ page would be useful. This could either be set up as a read only forum (easy to link to individual articles) or a separate webpage (with ..../FAQ.html#thisone type addressing).

As traffic grows on the site Mouser must be feeling time pressure to be responding to individuals as much as he does. For the more common problems forum regulars could point common problems in the right direction.

An FAQ button could be added to the Page top Menu bar/Forum menu bottons too.

Screenshot Captor / Re: an idea for an effect

This is a nice idea - how about blowing the selection up by a percentage and saving it in a clip folder so that it can be added/positioned according to user need?

The other thing that would be really nice is if the original picture canvas could be enlarged interactively by moving controls (rather than entering pixels in a dialogue). PhotoShop acheives this with the crop tool - you select the whole image with the crop tool and then drag the selection 'handles' away from the image to where you want them. The new space added is filled with the background colour.

This makes adjusting the area around the image really easy as you can make it far too big while you are working and then crop to the size you want when you finish.

Fine by me - thanks, at least this has clarified for my little brain how it is meant to work ;)
7307
Ah - got it finally, that works.

Perhaps PT should return processes back to the state they were in before they were managed when Ignored (so if it was originally High, and PT changes it to Low then Ignore should return it to High).

Don't know how easy or practical this is though.
7308
That's the sort of thing I had in mind, but instead of the dials etc. you could have Mouser scratching his head in front of a screen ...

And lot's of people standing around shouting suggestions ...
7309
Thanks - out of curiosity are other people experiencing this too - or is it just me?
7310
I am just clicking on the rules column for existing processes and selecting Ignore and then OK (bottom right).

The rule is remembered after closing and reopening the config screen, but not applied.

The rule is applied after the tray icon is exited and restarted.
7311
No it says it is running
7312
I can change the habit of a life time and be helpful :P
7313
Still having problems with the config screen not updating the currently processed rules.

If I load a program and PT reduces its priority when I open the config window - select Rule>Ignore and hit OK shouldn't the process be restored to its Normal level.

Even worse - if I disable PT from the tray icon the process is retored to normal level, but as soon as PT is re-enabled it is reduced again - ignoring the rule that was set up.

Is it just me with this prob?
7314
You could enable 'Karma' .... maybe not ...

General Software Discussion / Re: "Program Checker" useful new tool
« Last post by Carol Haynes on October 10, 2005, 06:30 AM »
No privacy issue I can see. When the program starts it updates its database on your system and then compares your files to the downloaded list.

As far as I can tell no information is sent to their server.

Within the program you can submit applications for inclusion but the data being sent is displayed and you have the option of adding name and email address only if you want - otherwise as far as I can tell no other information is sent.

Basically it is like most of this sort of program the more people use it the better it will get. Hopefully at least DLLs will be added (currently it just looks at EXE files) and I would like to see ActiveX controls added since they seem to be the biggest spreaders of trouble under windows!

You can include minimised windows in the task list, nut not preview the window contents.

Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Complex HTML Tag Assembler
« Last post by Carol Haynes on October 09, 2005, 06:47 PM »
Yes, thanks Stefan. PSPad is certainly very nice. It is also worth downloading the TopStyle Lite plugin too. This allows you to edit CSS style sheets from within PSPad from the HTML menu.

I can't see me splashing out for TopStyle Pro (too expensive for me given the little I would use it) but the Lite version is excellent for editing CSS tags and classes.

Note if you are tempted by the Pro version it doesn't integrate with PSPad, only the Lite version. The Pro version does integrate with other tools though (such as FrontPage and DreamWeaver).

Living Room / Re: Tired of downloading MP3's ? (use your soundrecord.exe)

If you want just the Flash animation it is here http://mirrored.flab...innoise/winnoise.swf (found with URLSnooper).

Just click on it to play it in your browser without any other distractions. You can also download it by using a download manager (such as GetRight) and just add the URL to the downloads list.

General Software Discussion / "Program Checker" useful new tool
« Last post by Carol Haynes on October 09, 2005, 03:51 PM »
Still in the early stage but looks like a useful tool. Basically a constantly updated catalogue is being built of .exe files (I have suggested DLLs be added too) and each safe file is being "check-summed". This little utility scans your system for exe files and compares the checksums to ensure you have a pukka copy.

The database is already substantial but needs to grow (and be extended in scope) to be really useful but it looks like a really good start.

Note there appears to be a slight scripting bug in the initial release (just a script error when displaying the user interface) but it is being addressed and doesn't affect the functionality of the program.

Check here for details.

Actually there doesn't seem to be any ActiveX on that page. It runs fine in Firefox (which doesn't support ActiveX). The main panel is just a flash movie.

Really good fun though!

Official Announcements / Re: Website went down for about 6 hours or so

Thought you might be risking the forum upgrade ...
7322
Doesn't answer your question but there is an Explorer extension which allows direct upload here (bottom of the page).

I haven't tried it so I don't know how it works but if it is a shell context menu addin it may be possible to make it available from the right click menu in SC's browser.
7323
To be fair the sale price is available via a resller.

By the way I sent query by email and got a response within 3 hours - not bad support ...
7324
Just got this reply ... lets hope the next major release is going to be within 60 days!

Nitro PDF Upgrade Policy

Nitro PDF product releases fall into two categories, referred to as
major and minor releases. A major release is normally identified by a
change in the first digit of its release version number, i.e. 4.9 -> 5.0. A
minor release generally signifies a bug fix or minor feature
enhancement. This can be identified by an increment in one of the successive
release numbers, i.e. 4.7 -> 4.8, 4.8 -> 4.9.

Minor releases are issued free to customers who own the same major
version (1.X, 2.X, 3.X).
Major releases are issued free to customers who purchased their license
within the prior 60 days.

The upgrade price for a major release will be approximately 40% of the
product's current retail price.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions then don't
hesitate to let me know.

Well I have taken the plunge! It is a seriously nice product.

The activation system is similar to other activation systems (MS & Adobe etc). Basically You activate it online within 30 days byt clicking on a box. The only info gathered is the serial number they have supplied and your name. You can optionally give your email address but you don't have to.

The product can be installed on two systems simultaneously (the license says eg. desktop and laptop) intended primarily for the same person's use.

They do have a deactivate system - so presumably it is fairly easy to transfer the product from one computer to another without having to contact them.

Having read the threads you pointed to the issues seem to have been a bug which is now resolved in version 4.9. As for the updates I am not sure what the policy is but there is a product update button under help, and the version on offer above is version 4.8. It updated fine to version 4.9!
