Hmmmmmmmmm see, to me I think the reason they changed the plot line in Sopranos was people liked to see Tony do the dirty work.  I guess cable/HBO doesn't have ratings exactly like network TV does, but they still get feedback.  I don't think Tony sitting in a dark room smoking a cigar making phone calls would get the adrenalin goin' the same as him pistol whipping some guy who didn't pay the vig. ;)

Just my $.02 :)

Can you translate to English?
I get something similar in FireFox.. if I click on a link and FF is not loaded(it's my default browser.)  Periodically I run this registry script to fix it. If it works for other browsers by substituting the other browser name I have no clue.

First 3 seasons or so of Sopranos was great.  The story line kind of arced in a lame direction around then I think.  Christopher was supposed to become the conduit for Tony, while Tony kept in the shadows. For some reason they decided to have Tony beat and shoot everyone personally and made Christopher a drug addict.  Jumped the shark.

True Blood seems to have some humor.  Only thing I can't figure is why the top honcho vampire who is this gigantic dude, takes crap from the little skinny guy who is Anna Paquin's boyfriend.

For all time, Twilight Zone had some great shows.  I just saw them all way too many times.

Hmmmmm slipped my mind but on Comedy Central the best show has to be Reno 911 .. at least afa live action goes. I'm not sure if it will hold up since many of the cast have moved on.  So far this season it still seems pretty funny though.

I like Asian sitcoms w/eng. subs. Usually there's a super gorgeous evil chick who is trying the steal the boyfriend and job/scholarship/whatever of the girl next door goody two shoes babe(too nice to resort to the same underhanded tactics as the nasty babe.)  Only trouble is, they must do a lot of food product placement because everyone is eating all the time.  I have to do one snack after another while watching these things!   :drinksmiley:

I'm with 4wd. For some reason I used to assume a CD image wasn't "legal" to burn as a DVD with Imgburn.  Then for chuckles I just burned one.  Worked fine.

BOD = Board Of Directors.  I think you guys get me wrong.  If I say Vista SP1 ain't so bad as Vista before SP1, I'm not saying Windows7 sucks.  If I thought that I wouldn't keep it on my dual core machine.  Just saying where possible people should compare similar levels of product.

And yes, before I chucked my old HP with one GB ram and Pentium 4 CPU I did put Windows7 Beta on it and it ran fine.  I experienced that first hand so I wasn't trying to say it didn't happen. Just saying I wished I could've tried the Home Premium equivalent to see if I got the same. I don't particularly care for gadgets but I do have to admit I like the Superbar.  Plus it's nice I don't have to hack anything to put themes on.  I was never much into exotic desktops and skins but since the Glass was there I figured I might as well try out some of this Visual Styles stuff.  I'm not doing galactic calculations on this machine anyway so I can spare a few cycles for bells & whistles. :)

I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I think the deal is, the installer has a Register button, it goes back to GOTD, and then gets you the reg info.  If it's after the allotted time then GOTD doesn't send it.  So I think the time limit is to run the installer for the first time.

In any case, I thought Paragon was great until I found out it didn't like my fake raid.  Before you get too involved, try booting the BootCD that it makes to be sure it can see your HD.  The paragon stuff works great on my Sata 3 machine, but it sees no HD at all on my fake raid.  I had to get Macrium Reflect to do my image backups(and even there I had to buy the newest version.) If you get something with a WinPE boot CD then you should be able to add the driver if necessary.

I have Paragon Drive Backup and that should restore to a new drive too.  So many of their products have overlap that it's tough to know when to stop downloading. :)

I don't have it installed currently, but I bet I ran it at native resolution as I didn't change any options at all when I did run it. I just installed it and off I went.
If you didn't change anything, you ran it at 800x600 :)

W7 should run the same, regardless of version, on the same system. Ultimate would actually be expected to run slower due to the added services running at startup if any performance difference were to be noted.

I don't think MS is putting the Ultimate edition out there for people to try because it runs slower and bulkier.  Sorry but I'm not that trusting of human nature. :) If nothing else, the install is probably smarter.  When I bought a PC with XP Home on it, the swap file was set at a minimum of 16 MB and no maximum.  When I did a clean install of XP Pro on a PC with 1 GB ram, the minimum swap was set to 1.5 GB and the maximum to 3 GB.  I'll leave it to your intuition which system spent more time resizing the swap file. :)
Microsoft put the Ultimate version out for testing because they want the entire system tested, not just a subset. And your XP swapfile size was probably set by the OEM that assembled your machine...

It's most interesting you're aware of the corporate motivations.  Guess you must be on the BOD?

Giveaway of the day.  Paragon Drive Copy 9.0.  I didn't really need it but for free I figured I'd download in case I buy a drive for the old dual core. All I know is it installed and claimed to be activated.  Got to hurry as less than 2 hours left to download and install if you want this freebie:

The point is, everyone is raving how W7 runs great even on systems with 1/2 GB ram.  I'd be more interested if owners of W7 Home Premium, or equivalent, say the same thing when it comes out.

Everyone is comparing the Mercedes W7 beta with the Chevy Vega release of Vista. :)

I've been using Vista since April 2007.  Before SP1 it was a pita.  Lots of services to reign in.  System hogs the HD something fierce.  When I got another machine with Vista64 SP1 the services were tuned, and it feels like W7 without a Superbar.  I could not get SP1 to go on my Vista 32 bit no matter what, so I put W7 7077 on as a fix for things like slow shell drag & drop copy.  I like W7 but I think a lot of people just gloss over the fact that the beta and eval versions are W7 Ultimate.  Most likely if you get your machine at Best Buy it will have the equivalent of Home Premium.  So it might not be so dazzling as compared to Vista64 Home Premium SP1.

That said, eventually you won't be able to get XP drivers for hw you want to use.  And, memory is going bigtime now.  A few hundred bucks in Best Buy and you have a desktop with 6 GB+ ram on the system.  Might as well run a 64 bit OS with modern drivers.  That means Vista/W7 64.

What I'd like to try is an evaluation copy of W7 Home Premium.  That would be a fairer test since I tend to get my PCs out of a box.  I don't own a soldering iron. :)

Anyone know how to get rid of "Open All In Tabs" in Minefield?  I've tried all the UserChrome.css modifications you find on the web and none of them do the job. I'm using a custom theme, so that may be whay I suppose. :)

Try asking on this site:
http://forum.digital-digest.com/

Put Attn: Chewy in the subj line.  I'm sure he could give some good ideas for system cooling as he's into overclocking. He's a mod on that site.  If he's not around there are other posters there who build their own rigs and they will help you out.

7268
What operating system are you running?
If XP, I'm using the "ordinary" gui that should change with the system settings. If Vista or W7 try disabling Glass.  My program only changes the background color and text color from the system default if Glass is enabled.

edit: also have you tried doing anything with the Set A High Contrast Color Scheme setting?
Perhaps someone can mess around with combinations until my dialog looks readable.

Latest Folder Cache features have been added to ReOpen 2.6
Change Log

Folder Cache 3.2

Finally I incorporate some support for external search apps.  While the Gui Window is open, select an item in the list or type into the input filter.. then press Control-C.
The first time around you will be asked to choose the hotkey for an external search program.  For instance, you can use the FARR or Everything hotkey.  The Hotkey will be sent, then after a pause, the item text or text from the input filter will be sent via macro.

The hotkey selection dialog only supports 2 key combinations. If your search app is hard-wired for 3 keys or you prefer using 3 key combos for it, you can always link to it using a 2 or 3 line AutoHotKey script that listens for the 2 key Hotkey you assign in Folder Cache, and sends out the 3 key combo. (Even if you're not a programmer, to do this in AutoHotKey is very easy.)

I've played around typing partial folder names and using FARR and Everything Hotkey and it seems to work really well. If course if the search program isn't running to listen for its hotkey, the Folder Cache window will just go away.  No big deal. :)

To change the external search app hotkey, there's a command in the Tray Menu.
The current search app hotkey is saved to FolderCache.ini on close.

Folder Cache 3.1 - I added another wrinkle.  It's a pita if you pop up the window to open a recent folder and it's not in the list.  For this reason I added the ability to type the entire path of a file or folder in the input line.  If the path being typed is valid, it shows as bold.  Press Enter in the input line to open that item as well as any currently in the Stack.

The Delete Selected button also clears the Stack. If no items are selected in the list when Delete Selected is pressed, a Tooltip pops up saying "Stack Cleared" to give visual feedback.

As a free bonus the input line happens to allow opening non folder items such as text files or even program files. It's just there to avoid having to switch to another tool, command prompt, or explorer when one opens the Folder Cache window to find the desired folder isn't in the list. It's not meant to replace search tools such as FARR, Everything, or Windows Search.

If this mechanism works out I'll add the same feature to ReOpen eventually.

Edit: to save on typing long paths, if you have a single item selected in the list, and Alt-Left Click on it, it will be copied to the input line and the caret put at the end of the line.

General Software Discussion / CCleaner restore point zapper
« Last post by MilesAhead on May 31, 2009, 10:02 PM »
My Vista64 runs smooth but it doesn't have that disk cleaner thing that "removes all but the latest restore point" and that's a pita.  I have to disable System Restore, then enable it again, then use a script to set the max disk space allotment.  Glad to say the new version of CCleaner has a doodad in the Tools menu to delete individual restore points.  No fuss no muss.

v. 2.20.920
7273
v. 2.51  - I think it's gonna' level off at this version for awhile.  Has all the features I want and seems to work pretty well.  I'll just let it sit here unless somebody finds a bug.

Seems to be a crap shoot.  Trouble is it's impossible to tell from the outside how well connected the stuff is on the inside. If we're at the floppy disk stage, it must be those 5 1/4" paper floppies!! :)
