Here's free one by Avanquest.
Not sure if it's still valid-should be.
The promo is in German,
but you can usually get the language of your choice when installing.

Some of these promos stay in German, just have to try them.

I think search terms used is most important to find the right and best software.
With 'free assistive software' your site comes up.
Other terms are used to find this kind of help.
'assistive' comes up as spelled wrong here in FF.
Although it is a word spelled correctly.
'assistance' or 'assistant' is the most likely best spelled term to use.

Your site, kip, http://www.fxc.btinternet.co.uk/ .

Nice work btw, these should be among the first 5 for any search for helping with seeing what is in print on the screen along with the other visually helpful items you have.

General Software Discussion / Re: Why is my computer hiccuping every few seconds?
« Last post by cmpm on February 10, 2011, 10:15 AM »
On another performance note that may apply.
I've found my computer to perform more smoothly and better response time with letting MS handle the visual effects. I've turned some off and there was a lag for response time on most everything.

But when I reset it to windows choosing what's best, it, W7, performed better.
Could be in my mind's eye but I'm more pleased with it's performance.

Why does GOOGLE say it is spending such huge sums to advertise and promote and try to get people to switch to their Chrome browser?

A good way to cut the taxes they have to pay.
Research and development.
Advertising.
All write offs.
That's probably why most everything is beta.

I wonder how much they revised Moby Thesaurus for Babylon?

Is it better then the original?
If so they should kick back the revision to the author of Moby Thesaurus.
And be able to implement it in the original Moby Thesaurus.

Or has that been done already?

General Software Discussion / Re: The Cache?
« Last post by cmpm on January 29, 2011, 10:04 PM »
Yes, I've tried CleanMem, and it slowed the response time of Firefox then.
Now it's at version 1.6 so I may try it, just to see.
Works different then a cache type program I think.

I wasn't going to buy OO's product, but wanted to know about the cache.
(It has been a 'giveawayoftheday' at version 6 before, just preparing for it to come up again.)
Which, I guess is something like virtual memory on the hard disk.
I'm not sure, so hence the quest-ion.

Doesn't Outertech's Cacheman do something along these lines?

http://www.outertech..._page=news&id=58

I'm just not so sure about messing around with how my system normally works.
And then have to restore it to it's built in, native, in place already functions.

Know what I mean? :)

« Last post by cmpm on January 23, 2011, 06:36 PM »
Either keep tapping F8, or when you see the progress bar to start windows, shut it off by the power button or plug. Then you can get to the screen in 4wd's post.

Start in safe mode and it will ask you if you want to use system restore first.

Malwarebytes should clean that problem.
I've had it and heard it before.

General Software Discussion / Re: LastPass - What are your thoughts?
« Last post by cmpm on January 22, 2011, 09:59 AM »
In LastPass dropdown menu from the button, you can just click
'save all entered data', and it will save site and data to auto fill later if you want to.
That's for sites that don't automatically ask to save or not, or any site really.

Australia and New Zealand have subtle differences in accent as well.
Interesting that separation is focused on so much speaking of wikileaks.
I'm quite sure there are many governments with major abuse.

My understanding is that twit filters are a per-user setting, so they wouldn't prevent the 'target' from posting.

Yes that is my understanding of it as well.

"Trolls" are what it's used on mostly.
I don't see much of them here.
I saw the 'china shoe person' though.
That was kind of funny...sort of.

I've also seen this feature used to post and block responses that should be heard by the blocker.
This is where words are used to one's own end without willing to take the responsible action of engaging thought and conversation with responses, whether there is agreement or not.

Two people who disagree can both be right as well, this can be understood in light of each one's understanding of the matter.

Personally, I think for one or any member to have the ability to block all posts from one person (twit feature) would be the downfall of the good spirit of this site.

This site is working without that feature, by the willingness and cooperation of adults who can work things out or bite their tongue for wisdom's sake.

We take responsibility for our words and speak knowing we could be wrong.
Accept corrections and more perfect info in light of growth and learning.
That is the communication that would die a slow painful death.

I've seen sites go down in flames and still burning with flaming each other.
Silly stuff that becomes the way to post.

It hasn't happened here, why would we want something in place to stop something that doesn't exist here.

I know my posts are dry and could be taken wrong at times,
but there is no malice or ill will from me or any posts I've seen from anyone here.

The old saying-
'don't fix something that ain't broke'
