That's an interesting idea.. Still i can't help but think that this is really a function that you would want to implement in your forum system to perform automatically for every uploaded image, rather than something you'd want your screenshot/thumbnail tool to do.

1. Yes, I can see how it might be smarter to use the name of the shortcut, maybe i'll change that.

Can you explain #2 a bit more?

Developer's Corner / Re: Rewriting work for hire after the fact...
« Last post by mouser on September 18, 2014, 03:02 AM »
I think in this case, as an independent contractor, you should probably feel free to create new code that solves the same problem, without issue.
They hired you to solve a particular problem for them -- unless there is something in your contract that says you can't write similar tools for others, I wouldn't stress it.
ps. If this was for an academic organization, they mostly likely couldn't care less.

« Last post by mouser on September 15, 2014, 10:09 PM »
glad you like it!
when you select ignore, it adds a new scoring pattern.
so go to the scoring patterns options tab, find the new item, right-click and delete it.

ok come on now, it's your resident spoilsport here.  i think after 7 pages a rule is in order to limit your posts to one per page (if not one per entire thread).

No, I was just communicating that stephen is on very friendly basis with the people who have the power to delete posts.  I did delete one post of his yesterday that had the title "ヽ(´▽`)/" and had no contents, but stephen knows that he is only allowed a certain number of totally silly topic starts per week :)

My favorite in that style is the MityLite MeshOne chair:

It's light, folds to a very very thin profile, is extremely comfortable, and can support 1000 pounds.

Available also at amazon.com.

Developer's Corner / Software patents are crumbling thanks to the Supreme Court
« Last post by mouser on September 12, 2014, 07:09 PM »
Tim Lee has written a nice write up for recent legal progress in rolling back the software patent madness of recent years.  It's good news for those of us who spend our time coding and don't want to get wrapped up in frivolous lawsuits designed to extort money.

Now a series of decisions from lower courts is starting to bring the ruling's practical consequences into focus. And the results have been ugly for fans of software patents. By my count there have been 11 court rulings on the patentability of software since the Supreme Court's decision — including six that were decided this month.  Every single one of them has led to the patent being invalidated.

General Software Discussion / Re: New BitTorrent client needed, suggestions please?

Can't tell you if this is any good from personal experience but I have heard good things about it: qBittorrent.

"The qBittorrent project aims to provide a Free Software alternative to µtorrent. Additionally, qBittorrent runs and provides the same features on all major platforms (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, OS/2, FreeBSD)."

Developer's Corner / CLION: A new (cross-platform, commercial) C++ IDE
« Last post by mouser on September 11, 2014, 11:37 AM »
A new C/C++ IDE (development environment) was recently made available for download, by the folks at JetBrains, who have developed some impressive commercial coding tools. It's called CLION.
It's cross-platform, running on windows, mac, and linux -- but note that this means it will run on these platforms, NOT that you can use it on one platform to target another.
It's also a commercial tool as far as I can tell -- which is currently available for free early (beta) testing -- someone let me know if this turns out to be wrong.

Looks interesting -- one appealing aspect is that it seems to use a relatively-standard build/project system (cmake), and uses the standard gcc compiler, making it more compatible with standard c++ coding.

I like the idea of a special 10th Anniversary Mug.

Perhaps it could feature a drawing of Cody with a long beard and walking with a cane, showing his age.  ;D
