On my netbook, it puts the machine into Battery Saver mode, which dims the contrast and makes the netbook go to sleep after a minute of inactivity.

This game was just recently released in Japan for the Nintendo Wii's WiiWare service. It will be coming to the NTSC-U and PAL regions at a later date. It actually looks really fun and seems like a great idea for a new take on the Tower Defense genre.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles My Life as a Dark Lord may have a name that's similar to predecessor My Life as a King, but the two games are nothing alike.

Although not immediately apparent, Dark Lord feels like a unique take on the tower defense genre. Like a tower defense game, your goal is to strategically position troops to make sure that advancing enemies aren't able to make it from a starting point -- the base of your tower -- to an end point -- the top of your tower.

Different from tower defense titles, you have the added element of having to add new floors to your tower in real time in order to house your troops. The floors themselves have gimmicks, which can be used to attack enemies or heal monsters depending on the floor type. They also have HP and can be destroyed if directly attacked by the enemy multiple times.

Take a look at the website (click the image below) for some videos of it in action.

BTW, I haven't seen Vanilla or Metaforum in action anywhere, really.. seems they're not exactly enjoying widespread adoption.

I set up some Vanilla forums a couple years ago. They've since been all-but-abandoned, but they've been nice.

Kinda cute - I find it a bit scary that people fall for this :)

Not everyone has taken even a basic chemistry class.

Someone in my college speech (Comm101) class used this subject as his "persuasive" speech. I think he referred to it as "hydroxic acid" but from the information here, maybe he was saying "hydroxyl acid." Anyway, at the time I didn't know what that was, but I wasn't convinced that it ought to be banned before learning more about what it was.

EDIT: About the late reply: I'm actually this far behind on forum posts. I'm just catching up...

Modern-day forensic data recovery software is making remarkable strides in being able to recover data on drives that have been wiped. However, if you come across someone with such software and they have a keen interest in what is on your encrypted volume you will have far larger worries than worrying about someone checking out your passwords.

This comes to mind:

The transaction is completed. :)

For future reference, I'd be happy to assist anybody else with Steam purchases.

I'd be happy to.

I will PM you the paypal details.

Played long enough to finish the first mission (which took about 2 minutes). Looks fun. I'll have to give it a real test drive later.

After tinkering with Ubuntu for the past several months, I don't find UAC any more annoying than having to type in a password all the time to "sudo" this or that.

Also there is a recording of a presentation of the paper on YouTube - http://www.youtube.c.../watch?v=yL_-1d9OSdk.

I don't get it. It was slightly amusing for the first second or two (after the presentation started), but... What's the point?

Deozaan, what new camera did you get?

None. I still have that Kodak camera. It still takes pictures just fine. Just the video is bad. Also these days having a dedicated camera isn't necessary unless you specifically want to do some photography. There are cameras built into laptops, phones, PDAs, and even portable gaming consoles.

Right now I just mostly use my phone camera for pictures and videos, even though it doesn't take pictures with as many megapixels as the Kodak camera, it still suits my needs.

I have an idea that would work out well at the beginning, but not so well after a little while.

I was thinking that we could ship it out to people by post count order. That is, people who have the most posts get Cody Plushie first. And to prevent people from artificially inflating their posts, we can just take a snapshot of where it is now.

The idea is to get Cody to the most active members on this forum first as a reward for being so awesome. ;) The problem is that there are some relatively new members who are active and contribute a lot but don't have a very high post count yet.

What actually happened in the end is that Kodak never fixed the problems and I will never buy anything Kodak again and I will strongly discourage anybody I know from buying anything Kodak again.

Wow I've never seen a Hex keypad before! I was looking at that before I saw the label and I was thinking that it had to be the most confusing and hard to use keyboard in the world, the way the numbers and letters were organized.

Then I saw it was a hex keypad and it all made sense!

I've found Active Desktop Calendar to be quite useful, but I don't know if it integrates with blackberry.

It works with my phone because it can import iCAL info and I use Google Calendar for everything.

It seems to have the potential to change how we normally do a lot of things online.
Agreed. I think Wave has the potential to revolutionise online communication, particularly business communications. The potential for productivity improvements using the document collaboration features, for example, are amazing.

But...it does mean that everyone in the business (or everyone who needs to be involved in a conversation) needs a fairly high degree of computer literacy. And that's still a problem in a lot of businesses. There are still many employees who can just about manage to send and receive email, but that's it. And in a world where people just endlessly swap around Word documents for review, you can get away with that.

But using Wave requires a familiarity with the way computers work. All those employees who shrug their shoulders and say "I'm just not very good with computers" will find themselves under a lot of pressure to change their attitudes...

I got the complete opposite impression from the video. It looks as simple as what most people are used to these days. Looks about as complex as web-based e-mail (or Twitter/Facebook) but even simpler with lots of drag and drop support.

I'm thoroughly impressed.
