General Software Discussion / Tasking

The memory consumption of freemind is enormous depending of java machine.
I am using in combination with other task mapping software like ToDoList.
Or even my CRM Goldmine 5.5 (an old one).
So I want to know more about these tools (mental mapping orgnization) and memory less requirements....
I have tried freeplane but also depends on java.

Living Room / Kill me if you want (buying good, cheap and pretty two hard disks)
« Last post by Contro on February 25, 2019, 09:26 AM »
I finally bought :
I bought a 10 TB classical hard disk

and a 2 TB SSD disk

https://es.aliexpres...1.0.0.13f363c0WdQO5B

https://www.ebay.es/...p2057872.m2749.l2649

I think the second is better than the first.

Opinions please. Be merciful if you want. The SSD is for the laptop in substitution of the old one.
The other is for the data disk desktop.

 :-[

Notes :
TLC (Triple Level Cell)

Storing 3 bits per cell, TLC flash is the cheapest form of flash to manufacture. The biggest disadvantage to this type of flash is that it is only suitable for consumer usage, and would not be able to meet the standards for industrial use. Read/write life cycles are considerably shorter at 3,000 to 5,000 cycles per cell.

Pros:

Cheapest to manufacture which in turn leads to cheaper to market SSDs.

Cons:

Cells will survive considerably less read/write cycles compared to MLC NAND. This means that TLC flash is good for consumer use only.

Recommended for:

Everyday consumer use, web/email machines, netbooks, and tablets.

Heat is to be expected when a lot of reading and writing onto any drive, whatever form or shape.

Most are designed to get rid of this excess heat sufficiently fast enough, while not being too uncomfortable to carry around in a pocket. If a drive does not heat up, perhaps not much reading and/or writing is going on. Unless there is a active cooling element on your drive there, temperature will vary, depending what you are doing on it.

There are pen drives that show up as very big, but actually have (much) less capacity. Some even apply the trick that when a file is written to that drive with a size that exceeds the actual capacity (but not the reported capacity), it just starts to overwrite the file from the beginning of the drive. So if you generate a file with numbers that follow up on each other, you will know quickly enough if your pen drive either fails to generate the specified size or that it overwrites the file from the beginning.

Simple, but effective check to see if you have bought a drive with the promised capacity or not.

Often there are other indicators that should make you wonder if it is too good to be true. Take a look at differences in font of the sticker that indicates the size. Yes, some vendors are cheap enough to use generic stickers on which the promised capacity is added in a not matching font. Same is true for other forms of packaging.

But that capacity for that price? From a not so reputable source? Yeah, that sure sounds like it is way too good to be true.

Recently I bought micro SD in AliExpress from SanDisk. Microdrive have similar prices to this manufacturer in this product.

I continue using the pendrive without problems.
I will comment only the things to happen.

Waiting !!!!!  :

FakeFlashTest tries to fix the main issue with H2testw which is the incredibly slow time it can take for the process to complete on larger and slower flash drives. The first test you can run is similar to the one found in RMPrepUSB and a quick test. This writes and reads 512 bytes of data at set intervals across the drive and so finishes in less time. The second test is very similar to H2testw and writes/reads to all free space on the drive but has been optimized in a number of ways to complete the task much quicker than H2testw.

Do note that the the quick test is destructive meaning anything on the drive will be overwritten, so make sure your files are backed up. The slower test is not meant to be destructive but can still corrupt your files if they are on a bad area of the drive.

Continues running about 33% of the first part : Writing ..... After is verifying....

I want to try some power banks with 18350 batteries ion-lithium.

I found a very very cheap with a high high mAh capacity in Ebay or in Amazon, I don't remember well. I am waiting for that too.

Until the present moment in AliExpress I have a relative good experience.

When the good arrive bad they sent the money back.
At the present moment I have decided not buy shoes or trousers (pantalones) because I have bad experience in this moment.
In electronic devices some goods go well and others no.
In ballpoint pens and stilografic or ink pens the experience is very good.
All I buy es less than 20 euros.
I lost a pair of shoes in one of my first buying experience because I don't reclaim at time.
They send me very small shoes with the label indicating a bigger one, but finally I give to a friend.

P.D. I am expecting to receive pendrives of 256 GB for 3.47 euros....
Sounds too good to be true, you're likely to get a drive with significantly smaller capacity, but a hacked firmware that reports more storage than actually is usable.

I wouldn't even bother buying it, but if you do, I'd recommend filling it and checking all the files' integrity afterwards.
We'll see.

How can I do your recomendation ? What tool can I use ?

There are tools that generate text files of any given size. you should create one such text file directly on that drive and see if the resulting file messes up.

That would be the simplest test to see if the capacity is as promised.
Owwww. I am testing now with H2Testw
writing and verifying.
What tool do you recommend for your purpose ?

I have just received this pendrive :

AsusPortatil - 15_02_2019 , 9_35_33.png

The device is recognised in my laptop without problems. Only 116 GB are detected.

The device don't come with he capacity written in the product . See the photo.

20190215_093815.jpg

I copy a movie and reproduce from the pendrive with no problem.

And also with the OTG from the mobile.

From the mobile detects 117.96 GB.

That's all for the moment ! .

The price was very cheap

12.06 euros

185 Wh / 50 Ah = 3.7 volts

If 12 volts ?

If 19 volts ?

 :-*

Why they don't give real values ?. I think is 185 Wh independently the voltage.
If voltage varies, varies the intensity and the Ah ....

So if 19 volts : 185 Wh / ?? Ah = 19 volts ---->  we obtain 9737 mAh

 :'(

719
 ;D

I need good advice.
After seeing several chinese products I am thinking buy this.
Anything better for similar price ?

https://es.aliexpres...amp;isOrigTitle=true

Why they don't compromise the mAh capacity :  Battery Capacity(mAh): Above 30001mAh

I understand tha 30000 mAh is the same that 30 Ah .

So if output is 19 V DC you can obtain up to 570 Wh
My laptop is 45 W , so I can have working up to 12 hours.

I need the output 12V too. I have bought some time ago 5 led lights of 3W each. If I have 30000 Ah I will obtain up to 360 Wh.
360 Wh / 15 W = 24 hours of lights.
Perhaps more.

When you bought a car battery of 60 Ah you have 12 V  x 60 Ah = 720 Wh

What I don't understand completely is in case of different voltages.

I suppose that when the maker says in the features 50000 mAh express a maximum capacity .
In other part of the publicity : REAL ULTRA HIGH CAPACITY 50000mAh/185Wh: Compatible With Most Popular Laptops and Notebooks
( Can not Charge Laptop with DC Current Over 5A).We Provide 14 Kinds of Connector for Most of the
Popular Laptops (Pls Make Sure the Connector Fits for Your Laptop before purchasing.). Once Fully
Charged. Our K2 Portable Battery Pack Can Charge Your iPhone 6 Plus about 11 Times, iPhone 6
About 17 Times, Galaxy S6 Almost 11 Times.

So.....
185 Wh what is now ?
What voltage applies when refers to 50000 mAh ?

V volts. x 50 Ah = 185 Wh

V = 185 Wh / 50 Ah = 3.7 volts.......

With 185 Wh I was wrong before.....

My laptop will last for 185 Wh / 45W = 4 hours aproximately
And my lights of 3 x 5 = 15 W for 185 Wh / 15 W = 12 hours aproximately .

Seems more secure give the  ??? Wh , because the Ah or the mAh are in relation with the voltage. Or I am wrong ?.

Are maximum values ?

But the usb-otg pendrive I propose have 256 GB storage !!!!!! for a minimum price !!!!4 :o

It's also a no name brand selling for less than 10% of the cost of a trusted well known brand name 256GB USB 3.0 flash drive.

The words "too good to be true" come to mind.

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

At the moment it looks like the cheapest possible storage option at the cost of your data.

As someone who is rather fatalistic when it comes to my own data, (ie. Shit happens), there are some roads even I won't travel down in the pursuit of cheap storage.

I know I know, but really helpful will be take in consideration the technical features.

By example :
This article - independent of the fabricant - is not good for these technical reasons. Inadequate velocity, no warrants or garanties, and so on. IN this way I can make my own opinion, but not only because is an unknown maker....

In the 13 years of DonationCoder, I've been pretty reticent about talking about my own personal life.
It's not that I don't view everyone here as family -- it's just a general shyness and reluctance to talk about personal details.

But I wanted to share with my donationcoder family that I am getting married next week.

 :-* :-*

It's definitely not something I expected to be doing a year ago, but we found ourselves in a rather unusual situation after a couple years of dating where we were either going to be separated on different continents or try to make it work as a married couple, and we've finally decided on the latter.  After almost 50 years it's a very different kind of adventure we're embarking on, and I'm excited about it and wanted to share it with all of you...

(I hope this explains why I may not have been on the forum as much as usual over the last couple of months -- but I hope to be back to my normal activity later this month).

It's just a court wedding so don't expect any fancy photos, and there's no reception to attend, but here is a photo of us during a recent hiking trip (I'm on the left!):

[ Invalid Attachment ]

Bonus points: Can anyone identify where the photo was taken?
Please put a pin or sticky to go to the front. I like to see happy people !!!!!!!!!!!
