Modified because of wrong link:
I have not tried this, and I probably won't, because I don't know how to stop it again! Google has created an easter egg for Starwar lovers: Type A long time ago in a galaxy far far away in >the search box<, and watch the magic come alive! It is of course all about the Star Wars The Force Awakens opening December 17 in a theater near you. Or is that maybe only in Denmark? Did you already have the premiere? I have no idea, because I haven't seen any of them, and I will most likely not watch this one either. But this easter egg sounds fun.

Go to Google.com/starwars (sorry, dot now removed), and log in.

no worries, Tom, it was a harmless, very old, adscript for pages - and has gone. But it took me quite a while to understand the language the coder was using. You know, normal English in a foreign way!

General Software Discussion / Am I infected? "adblock shield light" (for Firefox)
« Last post by Curt on November 27, 2015, 06:31 PM »
Two days ago an extension wanted to install itself on my computer: "adblock shield light 1.3.9" for Firefox. I have Adblock but this was adblock, (not a big 'A'), so I hesitated and went searching for clues on the Internet as to what it was. I've found nothing, but I got curious, so I made a backup and installed it anyway. To my surprise there are no informations about it in Addons; Firefox 42 > Tools > Addons > "More", leads to nothing but the name! I don't understand how it can be version 1.3.9 and be unknown. However, I am not scared (at least not yet), because I have not seen any difference in my computer (32-bits laptop Win 10 Pro)'s performance, and "no malware was found".

But the situation itself keeps nagging me: Where the heck does this little addon come from? Adblock doesn't mention such a thing, and the Internet in general claims it to be unknown! Maybe it has nothing to do with Adblock, and maybe it has. I don't know. Do you? Am I infected? No, of course not.

adblock shield light, anyone?  :tellme:

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: Zen Magnets are still attracting...

VERY Limited Final Release
Zenmagnets.com
⌚ Hopefully Zens will return in 2016 ⌚

First of all, let's manage expectations. Most of those waiting to purchase Zen Magnets this holiday season will sadly be disappointed. We only have about 100 Zen Gift Sets, and 100 Original (booster) Zen Sets left. We have 3 Mandala sets and aren't sure how to release them without inciting riots and/or tears, so we're holding on to them for a rainy day or a giveaway.

Unless you're absolutely set on acquiring the very last Zen quality spheres, we recommend trying our new Compliance Micromagnets - or checking out industrial magnet sites for 5mm magnet spheres. Quite frankly, it's amazing we're still able to sell Zen Magnets at all given that - for over a year - we've been the last company fighting the CPSC's ferocious war on magnets. Yes, we are still fighting.

Nov 30th Countdown

Countdown timers have been posted for the last Zen Magnets and Neoballs for sale in the foreseeable future (until the import ban is defeated). On November 30th 8PM Mountain time, you'll be able to add the products to cart. Please limit your order to 2 Gift Zens and 2 Booster Zens, or your entire order will be refunded.

Only a limited quantity of select colors of Neoballs will be available for sale, and no tin packaging is guaranteed. We recommend checking out quickly once a product is in cart. Due to our quirky shopping cart system, if a product sells out after you add to cart, your order will go through but we'll end up refunding payment for sold out items.

Micromagnets Sale Extended

The Compliance Micromagnets presale has been extended until Nov 28th at Micromagnets.com. After that we'll shut off purchasing until all preorders have been shipped the first week of December. Live prices will be about 20% higher than they are right now. Which means they'll still be a great value in about a week.

Micromagnets.com Magnets must be respected, but need not be feared.

General Software Discussion / Re: question about audio
« Last post by Curt on November 20, 2015, 12:46 PM »
I have never heard of programs with this set of features, and I wouldn't know why to need them.

Here's an example: Say you don't have a cell phone or a landline, so you take all your calls on your PC via Skype or other VoIP. But you need to have the headset unplugged so you can hear the incoming ring from your speakers if you're away from your PC. But then if you answer the call, you can't talk through your headset because all the audio is going through your speakers.

Being able to switch from speakers to headset without having to hang up and start a new call is a nice feature.

^ thanks for the explanation, now it makes perfect sense.

According to the software author, CheVolume was created especially for Windows 7 and newer. CheVolume 0.4.0.2 is from September. Looking at the program's history, I would say it's still in beta - as an example, only Chrome is supported! - and at such early stage, bugs are mandatory.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Automatically delete clips after pasting them
« Last post by Curt on November 16, 2015, 09:54 AM »
I have a similar but different need. From a music publisher's site or maybe YouTube, I will copy artist, track-title and album-title -informations from 3 different locations, and a little later paste them all into a Save As... box, to make the downloaded file name become a normal music track name. When this is done, the clipboard content in the 3 'boxes' are outdated and is not needed again. I have never found a clipboard manager with this particular feature, even though many people must download poorly named music/vidoe files.

... as far as I can see in WinAntiRansom, you can only designate one part of the filesystem (a non-root, non-virtual directory) below which everything is protected. (...) That makes it almost useless.

It is still in Beta, so I must encourage you to post at http://www.landzdown.com/winantiransom/

My trusted list:
http://Digitalrelated.com

Congratulations on the first 2½ weeks with your site. Are you running it all by yourself? It's really nice work.

Actually, we have a section especially for announcing one's new homepage or software: Announce Your Software/Service/Product - DonationCoder.com. You're welcome to use it

- you are welcome anyway!

Forgive me if the following is giving a wrong picture different from any other normal day on digitalrelated, but I just read this on the front page:

DirectX 11 Download
Chris November 2, 2015 0 Comments
DirectX 11 download latest version for Windows 32/64 bit. Get DirectX 11 offline standalone installer. Software version: 11.2
-digitalrelated

^ the latest version is version 12. Together with version 11.3 (not 11.2) version 12 comes with Windows 10. Why on earth is the post November 2 saying that 11.2 is the latest version? 11.2 is older than Windows 10, so why are there no comments to such an erroneous info? Forgive me for being so pedantic about something this unimportant, but I was disappointed.

But maybe with this post you are "telling" that you have not upgraded to Windows 10? Is that the simple answer?

How to test this program ? Could not find any demo version.
go to the program's homepage and click TRIAL: http://www.projects-software.com/denoise-projects-professional/ 375MB

because of this ^ I suddenly found myself downloading the 375MB trial! The zip container hold two files, one for Mac and one for Windows. My Outpost Security Suite went ballistic for several minutes, before allowing the setup to do its job. I don't have Photoshop installed, so the installer saw no reason to install the plugins - meaning that the unpacked 238MB installer for Windows only installed 85MB. I felt annoyed downloading a 375MB container for a mere 85MB unpacked.

Of course I didn't find any pictures to denoise, so I quickly removed the program again. There were some leftovers, but not much. About 6-8 harmless items.

As the smart phones are trying to take over the world, desktop programs are loosing market shares. A lot of them are dying, but that is not always easy to see. Now take this offer from Paragon. Yes, a photo program via Paragon! Franzis is a German software company, and well known for having made some fine programs in the past. But what about now? Are they alive and kicking, or are they dying - or all dead? I don't know for sure! Last update of this de-noise program was in January. If you are interested, I really think you should TEST (>go to trial<) before maybe buying. Offer valid until 15 November 2015.
