I removed all the nectar.com cookies in FF.

Logging in produces 7 new cookies:

JSESSIONID Expires end of session
cookieenabledcheck Expires end of session
_utma Expires 26th June 2014 16:36:24
_utmb Expires 26th Junes 2012 17:06:24
_tnmc Expires end of session
_utmz Expires 26th Dec. 2012
UnicalNIODID Expires 31st May 2017

I did the same on my desktop computer and it prduces two extra cookies:

_ric_c344 26th July 2012 (actually expires almost immediately after creation)
_ric_sc344  end of session

Not sure what is going on. All I know is when I restart FF on my desktop I am still logged in - on my laptop I am not.

I am trying to stay logged in to a website (www.nectar.com).

It works fine on two computers with any browser but on my laptop (Win 7 x86) no browser can stay logged in to the website after the browser closes.

The only security running are Windows Firewall (which I have reset to default) and MSE (which is pretty much at default settings).

All other sites are fine - I have tried using IE9, Firefox and Chrome and that one site can not retain the session when the browser closes.

I have cleared browsing history for each browser (including cookies) to reset the cache but it makes no difference.

Driving me nuts - anyone got any idea what is going on?

Finished Programs / Re: DONE: Are any of the files missing???

Beyond Compare works its way through trees (and even inside archives) very well. Ok it isn't free but it is very good - and you can use it from Explorer with a right click.

How about Beyond Compare - shows you not only files in one folder and not the other but also files that have contents that don't match. See: http://www.scootersoftware.com/

I haven't tried it but this page may be worth a look too: http://www.techsuppo...mparison-utility.htm

Added two new maps yesterday -

Slide into Despair - A classic puzzle (but with lasers and without a pencil!). Slide into the bowels of Aperture and then work to get out again!

Wall Bounce - A very simple short map as a proof of concept. It isn't a new idea but I had real problems getting this to work in anything other than this way!

For all my maps see: http://steamcommunit...141/myworkshopfiles/

It would be really good if DC Portal 2 players could give them a go and leave a rating (thumbs up or down) and a comment on Steam. Ta.

If you sent a payment and can forward them the transaction details they should take it up with Amazon on your behalf.

Alternatively send the correspondence to Amazon and ask them to sort it out - Amazon CS are usually pretty good.

Never had any issues with Humble with PayPal.

LOL - yes I had got it figured. You have to start thinking in the internal logic - given that I have enough trouble with my own it is a challenge!

I started playing it last night and I have got stuck already! How do you get out of the room where you break the glass - once it has gone there doesn't seem much you can do??

I like the game but I do find there is a lot of walking about and it feels just a little bit slow paced.

If you want to backup GMail then MailStore does a pretty good job (set it up as an IMAP account and don't forget to enable IMAP use in GMail settings).

The home version of MailStore doesn't have scheduling but it only takes two click to set off a backup.

[Continuing the aside}

Blimey I had completely forgotten about Modular! A blast from the past - and yes it was a great Pascal-like language.

I do remember having fun with Forth - though it seems less like high level programming and more like a cross between a Mensa logic puzzle and assembly language!

96 core array sounds like fun ;-)

Anyone remember OCCAM (programming language) - sounds like it might be useful again!

Now all we need is some Linux software to take advantage of that amount of horsepower!

Can't really comment - it must be either using IP geo-referencing or, as I have a premium account, they must use my billing address because the tick box isn't even on my forms (even if I change to a US address in my profile).

Credit monitoring is only in the US and it is an optional 'service' - if you don't actively enable it nothing changes.

Actually one thing you can be certain of - if iTunes was used to create a WMD it would never get to its target without Apple getting its cut of the development costs (and even then it would probably crash before it got there).

Now there is a challenge - an iTunes powered guided missile ... WTF code have they put in there?

Actually does that mean that US forces can't use loud music on iTunes during combat or interrogation?

The page layout you are using there looks easy to duplicate for a CMS - if you want I could help you with that. My preferred CMS is Joomla - which I have always found dead easy to setup and it allows blog-style pages (if you want people to leave comments then you would need to use a plugin for the comments). OK Joomla uses a MySQL database but I have never had any issues installing it - just upload the ZIP installer, unpack it on the server, create a database and assign permissions (just allow Joomla all permssions) and then go to the website - the installation is then a simple form to fill in with the details. Finally delete the installation folder on the server and you have a website.

The big advantage is that it is really quick and easy to add articles and edit pages.

Not trying to twist your arm but the offer of help is there if you want it. You could even set up the site in a subfolder so it doesn't interfere with your existing website until you are happy with the results.

PM me if you are interested and we can arrange a mutually convenient time to chat online.

The ones I suggested a couple of posts up are all no-database CMSes and the first is good for blogging (apparently) and FlatPress is specifically designed to be like WordPress without the database requirements.

I would suggest you use something like XAMPP (http://www.apachefriends.org) or WAMP (http://www.wampserver.com) to try it offline and see if you like the functionality.

Forget look and feel see if it does what you want.

Once you have done that have a look at the template and you can probably edit the template code to include the HTML code for the page look of your current website. If not I am sure someone here can point you in the right direction. That way you can host the blog on your own site whilst retaining current content.

Can I ask you why you are so determined to avoid a database? Also is you site so large that moving the whole thing to a CMS is out of the question - would be much easier to maintain in the long run.

Living Room / Re: World's first 'tax' on Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7

Out of curiosity - if you have IE7 try opening adobe.com !!

I reinstalled a Vista based computer this morning and went to get Flash and Reaqder to install and adobe.com simply won't open in IE7 (at least an unpatched Vista version).

I would have thought FlatPress is customisable so that you can make it look like the rest of your site. Since it only uses text files to store content it should be easy to host and should index from your own website.

The other alternative with WordPress or Blogger is to create a template top match your website (or reasonably closely) and then just add it as a menu link on your website. It will be indexed on the host website but so long as you have back links anyone following the link will be sent back to your website.

Is it vital that the index reflects your domain name? If so it looks like something like FlatPress is what you want.

I have never used it but other people on DC have recommended text only CMS systems. Here are a few I found on a quick search:

http://pivotx.net
http://www.skybluecanvas.com
http://www.pluck-cms.org
http://www.razorcms.co.uk

Pivotx seems to be specifically designed with blogging in mind.

Just create a Wordpress or Blogger blog and insert into the HTML page by using the iframe tag would probably be the easiest.

Blogger is very easy to set up and free (on google). No work for you to do other than start tying your articles. Because it is a Google product it is automatically indexed for searching.

Wordpress provide a hosted service and loads of free templates and plugins.

For both you can add articles using Windows Live Writer.

If you want a flat file blog system to do yourself you could try FlatPress (see http://flatpress.org/home/)

Not tried it but it looks the sort of thing you are after.
