Finished Programs / Re: IDEA: Drag and drop folder icon replacer
« Last post by skwire on July 18, 2016, 05:38 PM »
I tried under Win 7 and 10 to change folder icon with right click-properties-customize-change icon

Windows writes in both cases IconResource=XXX.ico,0, so we can delete
IconFile=XXX.ico
IconIndex=0
completely. It is not needed at all.

Does it really matter if it's there or not?

I can whip an app up like this if you still interested.

I have this almost ready to go.  Just took some slight modifications to an app I had already written.

First, a little bit of theory. What happens when a person sets a custom icon for a folder in Windows 7?
1. Attributes of a Folder change to Read-only (of the folder, NOT content!).

If I'm not mistaken, it's not the read-only attribute that's important; it's the System attribute that is necessary.

Possible app:
1. drag n drop folder
2. drag n drop icon
3. icon is copied to the folder, desktop.ini is created

I can easily adapt my "MT Icon" Coding Snack for this.

    + Added support for SHA-384 and SHA-512.
+ Improved parser to better support older MD5/SHA-# file formats.
    * Automatically switch to the correct checksum mode when loading a single
checksum file via the "File > Load checksum file" method.  (Thanks,
      Deozaan)
! The total progress bar was broken from MD5, SHA-1, and SHA-256 modes.

Did the file format change? I just tried to load an .md5 file and it seems to have swapped the file path and the checksums.

The file lists them as:

[path] [checksum]
[path] [checksum]

Et cetera. But the client shows the checksum as the filename/path and the path as the saved checksum.

Are you certain this was an MD5 file generated by SFV Ninja?

I appreciate the recommendation for SysTrayIconsManage. It is certainly a workaround

Does Ath's workaround work for you?

I hope skwire can figure out how to solve the tray issue.

Unfortunately, I do not know how to fix it.  I've researched, tried a few things that didn't work, and put it aside.  I realise that seems terribly apathetic, but please understand that I write freeware simply as a hobby when I have spare time.  Moreover, I don't use the Windows "hide icons" feature.  That is, I enable the "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar" option and use PS Tray Factory to manage tray icons instead.

Skwire Empire / Re: Release: sChecklist
« Last post by skwire on July 02, 2016, 08:42 PM »
Hi, and welcome to the DonationCoder website.

First, I'm impressed with the program's simplicity. I populated the form with multiple new tasks, then wanted to edit each newly created line. However, I seemed to have a problem trying to activate editing the lines. Lots of clicking, re-clicking before it would edit. Is it me, or something I'm doing wrong?

I probably should have made this more apparent but simply highlight an entry and press F2.

Overall, while you can always add bells and whistles, I would stay simple. I like the idea of creating read-only, reusable checklists as templates, then clicking on a template to create a checklist for a given date. I just read an article on checklist design best practices and it suggests being able to add a note about any exceptional conditions to a checked item, which seems interesting to me. Also, a checklist header might be useful, that would note the checklist completion frequency. For example, in accounting work we need checklists for daily (day of week), weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual tasks.

Being able to print out a completed checklist and templates (at least to a PDF file) is absolutely required. Screen prints just don't cut it. Besides being able to print out or save a completed checklist,  I can foresee needing to print out an unchecked (not completed) PDF version of a checklist (aka the template) into a hard-copy procedure manual or as web link file.

Thank you for considerations and suggestions.  Unfortunately, they are well outside the scope I have for sChecklist.

A little background might be in order.  I written quite a few programs over the years here with most upon request of others.  In other words, only a handful have been been written expressly for me and sChecklist is one of those few.  There are a boatload of checklist programs with all sorts of wizzbang feature sets but I couldn't find one that quite fit the workflow I wanted.  Thus, sChecklist came to be and it's been written to my requirements.  One job, simple, and no B.S.

Done.
Did Aust version Celcius only as rest not needed...
Now I can read it!!

Very cool.  Do you mind if I include this with the next update?

I noticed that sometimes the weather has not been updated for 2 hrs or more. This is prob the supplier. You mentioned you were thinking of changing to another weather supplier in a thread I read?

Yes, this is a Yahoo! Weather issue and there is nothing I can really do about it.  As for other providers, none of them are free (or their free tier is severely limited) so that's not an option anymore.

haha im gunna have a go.
How do I get the numbers to be same centred position for each number especially when you have a minus symbol?
I'm just adding numbers as text straight from the keyboard rather than paint each one..will that work?
Actually I see on your default white that they are not all in same position so thats not so important?

Correct, you can make each icon look however you like.

I wouldn't know where to start unfort.

Here's a high-level tutorial:

  • Definitely start with a good icon editor.  Personally, I use Greenfish Icon Editor Pro.  Another good one is IcoFX but this software changed from freeware to shareware after version 1.6.4.  You can still find v1.6.4 here on the LFV site: http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/page40.html#IcoFX
  • Make a copy of an existing tray temperature theme into a new folder named whatever you want.  Note that the folder name is what will show up in sWeather's options dialog.
  • Open sWeather's options dialog and switch to the tray temperature theme name you just created.
  • Use your icon editor to open one of the .ICO files within that folder...preferably one near whatever your current temperature is.  Have a play around messing with that .ICO file in the editor.  For the most part, it will be like playing with a basic paint program.  Change the colours, create a new font numeral, etc.  When satisfied, save and overwrite the current .ICO file.
  • Bring up sWeather and press F4.  This will display the "Change the weather!?" dialog.  Use the arrow buttons at the bottom to change the temperature to the same degree as the file you modified.  With any luck, you should see your newly modified icon appear in the tray.
  • Carry on with the other remaining 199 .ICO files.   :P

Is there anywhere else I can find more?

AFAIK, there are none.  Over the years, a couple of user-created themes have been created (Celsius by Zormi and Minicat by Minicat) but I already include those in the download.  If you end up making a theme, send it to me and I'll include it as well.

Never thought of a keylogger as a saving grace in that situation... That's acually a good idea.

Not really when you think about the fact that a keylogger logs all keystrokes in one continuous stream, typos included.  Think about all the backspacing, deleting, arrow key moving, and moving the caret with the mouse.  What I'm getting at is, unless you're a perfect typist, the logger's end result is typically a jumbled mess.  Yes, I suppose it's better than nothing, but there are better solutions.  Under Firefox, I use the Textarea Cache extension for this purpose.

v1.6.7 - 2016-06-28
+ Added an "Add location" button to the Options dialog.
+ Added four new larger tray temperature themes:
        + Simple Black Large
        + Simple Black Large (Filled)
        + Simple White Large
        + Simple White Large (Filled)

The new tray temperature themes are as basic as it gets. If you want fancier, you'll have to make them yourself.

2. Its been a few months since its last update though.

Unless I'm mistaken, I'd daresay a few months is much better than the years since this ERAM code has been updated.

SigcheckGUI does not upload files to the VirusTotal website so, if there was no VirusTotal result, it usually means that nobody has ever uploaded that particular file to the VirusTotal website.    I think that's the issue at hand here.

This review of clipboard extenders rates ClipX best and CLCL next yet neither is mentioned by people here.

Keep in mind that that review is from nearly seven years ago.  CLCL's last update was nearly a year ago (and it was around ten years since the one before that) and ClipX's last update was almost eight years ago.  It could be that fewer DonationCoder folks are using those particular programs because of this.  As for me, I'm an ArsClip user.

Hi, KDimon, and welcome to DonationCoder.

How about add option FIT? for smaler side, because if use center big part image lose if image have bigger dimension then monitor. (sorry my bad english)

Unless I misunderstand you, the "Scale image" option (when you right-click) is what you're describing.

they all bent at the point of the plug with the lightest of force! (normally if the phone falls and it is plugged).

I'm not sure I'd classify a phone, whilst plugged in, falling and hitting the ground, the "lightest of force."  I'd daresay that most any cable is going to fail under that test.  That said, those Anker ones are built tougher, and come with an 18-month warranty, so you should be able to get them replaced should they fail.

Hmm, understand. Would you then be willing to make a command line switch so I can add a hotkey myself in my always resident script to invoke it? TIA ;)

F2F doesn't work on command line switches.  That is, it uses what is known as a Shell DropTarget.

Apologies for the late reply.

Not sure if my Windows 7 is to blame here ?

Unfortunately, when it comes to programming around the Windows system tray, this can be an absolute exercise in frustration.  One of the first things I do with my Windows 7 systems is turn off that auto-hide feature.  That is, I enable the "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar" option.  I realise this doesn't help you much but, to manage tray icons, I use PS Tray Factory instead.

In situations like this and, say, all types of insurance claims (medical, auto, etc.), I get the feeling these companies deny the initial claim just to see if the person will actually fight it.  They risk nearly nothing by denying the claim.  Either the person doesn't fight and the company doesn't have to pay or, the person does fight it and they enter into the process of actually investigating the claim.  It might not actually be this way but, when you're on the end of a quick initial claim denial, it sure seems so...especially if they reverse course and honour the claim a short time later.
