I recently acquired a new pocket camera.

I'd prefer not to pay the manufacturer's price for spare lithium-ion batteries (or charger, come to that).

I'm aware that there are plenty of very dodgy ones out there. So, can anyone give me some pointers to reliable sources, based on personal experience?

Thanks for your time!

While waiting for a traffic light, benind two other cars, a truck pulling a tank with 20.000 liter of milk though the traffic light was green. My car took the real beating…
No use crying over spilt milk!

Spoiler

Sorry!
Well, a bit anyway.

Really sorry to hear about your truck. Same sort of thing happened to a favourite car of mine. The excuse from the driver who spoilt my ride was "I was trying to get the lid off of my coffee cup." <sigh>

Dead simple but good for those avoiding wheat.

Chic pea crêpes.

1 egg
1/2 to 2/3 cup chic pea flour
1 cup milk or milk/water mix
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon fine sugar

Start with the flour, add half of the milk and the egg, salt, and sugar. Blend until smooth. Add remaining milk and blend fully.

Make a frying pan or crêpe pan hot enough to boil off a drop of water instantly. Spray the pan with a mist of olive oil.

Add enough batter to cover thinly the bottom of the pan. Cook on medium to high heat for about 2 minutes (or until the crêpe moves freely in the pan when shaken). Flip the crêpe or turn with a spatula and cook the other side.

Add filling to crêpe, roll and serve.

Filling suggestions:
Asparagus and cream cheese
Black cherries
(not all together  ;) )

I too think it a good idea. It has a certain dignity to it.

Keep the requests coming
I don't see why it can't figure out what I want and then just do it. Can we be done with all this keystroke/mouse click business?

Thanks for your endless patience with accommodating any number of quirky requests
SC is seriously useful software.

Thanks for the link  :)
I'm not blown away by the quality of sample images.
Plenty of noise in there. (Rather like my parties, now I come to think of it.)

You could trade in your smartphone for the new Galaxy S4 Zoom and replace two stones with one bird.

I put the nicest of them on display when we have a shindig. I like to put on my best party flock.

is this the same camera?
Close enough. Thanks for the link. Having tried one now, I'm not sure that I agree fully with the reviewer. Does one ever?

Compact cameras are dropping the viewfinder, and I dont know if any are particularly visible in sunlight (? - not saying they arent, I just dont know)
The better models tend to have screens that articulate, which helps a bit.

What attracted you to this particular model?
Fits in shirt pocket. Already have a Galaxy phone so this camera could become two gadgets in one and save me some pocket space. Great user interface - all that's nice about handling images on a smart phone but now with half-decent images.Surprisingly good zoom for a pocket camera. I have a DSLR but don't want to lug it around where I'm going to be, and this is one of those times when good enough is good enough. The Galaxy is on my short list at least.

It almost has the consistency of Crisco shortening.  It doesn't run when you tip the container.

I'd run when you tip the container! Who wants to drown in an avalanche of Crisco? I have enough trouble in my life already. Heck, I'm already an orphan... on both sides.

To answer my own question, and in case anyone is interested, I can't see a thing on its screen in moderately bright daylight (as with my Galaxy phone).

When one can see it, this camera has a very slick interface and takes quite creditable pictures. One picture I took was a close-up of a store sign, separated from me by a five-lane road and a shopping plaza car park. Only when I enlarged that by a factor of roughly four did I begin to see a significant level of noise. I'm not good at holding a camera steady, and that shot was at quite a high zoom level but there was no sign of shake. From power off to ready was about 1.5 seconds. If were able to see what I was doing with it I'd buy one in a heartbeat.

I'm somewhat baffled by the Override field.
I can't seem to force a specified name.
I'll send you my settings, perhaps you can see what's happening.
717
That dialog is supposed to override everything else, no matter what the internal settings are?

If so, it's not working here.
What does work is custom file naming using a combination of internal settings and the post-capture comment field.

@nite_monkey: Thanks for the links. The reviews all seem to be silent on this topic.

@Ath: Surely you can't mean that I should leave the forest  :o
I'm afraid you're right. The next time the sun comes out so shall I.

My 'pocket' camera died and I need another.

Has anyone used one of these Galaxy Android cameras?

I like the idea but what worries me most is the trouble I have trying to read smart-phone displays out of doors. This is especially true on sunny days, of which I expect there to be at least two this year.

Thanks

Now I can avoid chocolate ice cream withdrawal.
Live and learn, I didn't know you could withdraw chocolate ice cream with an EBT card. What will you have instead?

Good to know something's working out well for you

Just ran into this interesting item over at the CoinDesk website. It discusses a new method of implementing a decentralized e-mail system that encrypts and secures message content - and heavily obscures the sender/receiver addresses as well.

Thanks. That deserves a good conduct medal...

It's nice to see there are some really nice people around.  It sure cheered me up.
Great story! There are some really nice people at large on this planet. Sometimes, with the legions of oafs loose in the world, the SNR tends to hide the facts.

have the problem of replacing debit and ebt cards without a safe mail address in Miami
Can you find an officer in a local bank who'll act as recipient, especially if it's the same bank as the issuer of your card?

PM me if you need something.
