Now if they just find a few packets of cocaine they're so happy you weren't trying to blow them up that they give you your stuff back, and move you up to First Class. :)

You might try Everything search. It only works with NTFS partitions.  It avoids indexing by hooking into the NTFS journaling. It gets updated when the file system changes without having to scan the partitions.

In the results pane you can select with the mouse and if it's a file instead of a folder you can right click to open the folder the file is in.  Not the same as numbers but it's pretty cool and good to have anyway.  Also in FARR I think there's an option to increase the number of numbered results but I'm not sure, the numberpad "go" may be limited to 9.  See the 30 days of screencasts. I know that option is shown in one of the screencasts.

I used locate32 myself across several versions of Windows.  It's a good program, but it's tough to beat file system cataloging with no indexing required like Everything does.

They should start to pick up after awhile.  As 3.6Pre went along more and more stuff worked until I just forgot about any older FF versions. The oldest installer I saved was July 4 so the AddOns I use must've been working by then.

They could wake me up by offering a Turn in one pre SP1 Vista and get 2 Win7 of the same tier free sale.  2 and a half years in and I still can't get it to SP1.  Talk about busted out of the box!  That's why I try to get my machines with the first service pack already on.  I should have gotten a quad core with XP instead of a dual core with Vista.  Live and learn.

Revo is not yet officially updated for Win 7

Damn. I've been wondering how many of my apps aren't ready for Win 7 yet.

This forum has several excellent threads for Win7 apps and utilities afa what works by user testimonials:

edit:

I installed the Sept. 29 build of Minefield 3.7Pre on my Vista64 PC. Same deal as last time.  Seems to surf ok, but it kills all my AddOns.

Hmmm, rip and convert on the fly seems to be the trend. I tried Free DVD Ripper as yzf888 suggested.  Unless I missed an option, that one insists you rip from a physical disc(guess you could use one of those image mounters but still) and I didn't see a way to cut of a slice to see what the output would look like.

A lot of my movies are letter boxed Asian films I bought before everything was 16x9.  They didn't look bad on my 4x3 TV but now that my TVs have 16x9 mode I want to convert them to anamorphic 16x9 without getting people with wide heads.  Rip to VIDEO_TS folder gives you the best chance to mess around with tools until you get the best result you can, esp. when trying to reformat or autocrop.

Congratulations! It's nice to see you enjoying success.

Thank you.  I don't know if I'm allowed to claim "success" if I don't have a BMW Convertible but it's nice that people liked the program.  :)

Yay!!!  ReOpen 3.5.0.3 is first FavesSoft app to reach 1000 downloads on Softpedia.

Nice to get one right!!  These are just downloads initiated directly from Softpedia.
When my Hotkeys page was featured as a Gizmo "Hot Find" I think there were 4000 downloads that day.  It's nice to come up with one people like using as much as I do.

Anyway, that and a cup of coffee and I feel pretty good. :)

NVU is dead (under this name it is no longer developed). The previously mentioned Kompozer is the updated version of it.

Guess that's why I forgot it. :)

Must be an old FAQ on the site.  One thing that drives me nuts is trying to figure out the date stuff on the web was written.  A Google brings up some new breakthrough, then you see it was "new" 8 years ago!! :(

O_O! I am absolutely shocked that no one has suggested Nvu.

http://www.net2.com/nvu/

it started out as a small open source software, but seems has grown a bit beyond that. It's still free though, and an excellent way to begin building websites for free.

I forgot all about that one.  I did use it on one of my sites a few years back. Nice to see it's still being developed.

Zsa Zsa turned purple and was speechless(a feat in itself.)
;D

I just wish I had that recorded. I did get to share the chuckle with The Professor(tm) though.  He was on a radio talk show.  I called in and told the story while he was on.  Everyone enjoyed it tremendously.

I prefer freeware. Two free yet professional DVD rippers:

* Free DVD Ripper (easiest DVD ripper that I ever try.)
* HandBrake (very good open source in my opinion)

Free DVD Ripper looks interesting.  I downloaded.  Can you tell me is there an option to just rip to VIDEO_TS folder without encoding?  This WinX one I'm trying doesn't seem to do that.

I cheated anyway by lookin' at the Wiki list!!  I still don't believe Elvis sang "blowin' in the wind" .. maybe a misprint?

Anyway, speaking of rocks, one of my favorite memories of the Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson is the night he had Professor Irwin Corey on.  Then Zsa Zsa Gabor followed.  She got engaged yet again and was waving this huge diamond ring around showing it off.  She shows it to Corey. who admires it, then says "Hmmmmmmm, and how did you get this?  On the Lay Away Plan?"

People were rolling in the isles.  Zsa Zsa turned purple and was speechless(a feat in itself.)  When they came back from commercial Zsa Zsa was gone, never to return. I always liked the professor!

Looks like it's too soon to throw away AutoGK.  Seems like if you have 16x9 DVD it knows how to convert to .avi but if you have a letterboxed DVD even if the letterboxing is 1:85.1 it doesn't know how to autocrop.  It wants to encode the black bars and give you a 720x540 4x3 .avi file.

Setting the output to NTSC DVD seems to be equivalent to a rip but you just get a .vob file. It doesn't output the VIDEO_TS folder that I can see.  Looks like some experimentation is needed to find out which source will work well for one shot conversion and rip.

edit: if I had to take a guess I'd say it's tuned to 16x9 anamorphic, since that's the thing for standard DVD these days. If you have a disc that can convert the way you want in one shot it looks pretty fast.  On the fly convert to .avi was running a bit better than 3x on my quad core with the "high quality" setting checked.

Seems we've strayed OT.  I may be tempted to try 3.7pre again soon. I tried one of the first builds and it was wicked flaky.  If I run into a build that's solid on more than one OS I'll post the link.

I installed this on my 32 bit Windows7 PC(the AMD dual core) and tried a disc. So far I like it.  The movie was on a DVD9, 16x9 video with Japanese audio and English subs.  I put the disc in and the program selected the main movie and output as .avi with divx codec.  I made a few changes, bumped up the bitrate from 1500 to 1800, changed divx to xvid and checked the "high quality engine" box or whatever it was.  Changed the audio track from English to Japanese, audio output from mp3 to ac3, and hit the Start Button.

It ripped and converted on the fly at about 1.5x.  The resulting .avi had the english subs burned in.  The video looked very good and the lips were in sync with the audio.  If all discs come out like this I'll be very glad I got it.  Tomorrow I'll put it on the faster machine and see how it goes.

I could start getting lazy if I don't even have to load AutoGK anymore. :)
