N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Pledge & Final Release: Paste Text Like
« Last post by anandcoral on January 15, 2012, 03:04 AM »
Thanks empyrean for the feedback.

Yes I have a simple Html2Text logic, which remove all html tags, but your suggestion requires to keep the <a> tags. I will see how to give both options. Your suggestion on file name also implies that I have to give some option to user to remove/change the invalid characters.

Actually I wanted PTL to be very simple and straight forward. It should work out of box and mostly for all users. But there are advance users who like to control the things  :)

Ok I will plan and give the options, but will try to keep it simple and minimal, else it will also become same like other similar apps and slow down.

Anand

Ordered mine, this time madam's choice.

A developer's life is same.

1. develop user's choice
2. gift madam's choice
3. if any doubt then goto step 1.
4. loop

Hope I will be able to make madam happy as like my users. ;)

« Last post by anandcoral on January 11, 2012, 11:57 AM »
Let me see.

  • - option to lock selected PTL menus (as suggested by TaoPhoenix) so that the most used by user can be at the main popup
  • - short cut key of each menu as decided by user
  • - hotkey setup max 4, on user choice menus (as requested by ralfs and KRSMAV)
  • - Some new menu options to manipulate text like text2html and vice versa, etc. (as suggested by Jibz)

Hmmm.., looks like I can do it.  :)

But, yes but, the configuration option for the above need some time to make, which is in very short supply to me (oh how I hoped GOD should upgrade the day time to 48 hours).

In a quick response I may give a definable hotkey for paste plain text, via ini itself, so that advance user can get started while I make the dialog windows.

Wish me time.

Anand

Hi Tinman57 and Curt, I had more plans for TWD along with the sound option. But it looks like this is a basic feature and should have been from the initial release.

I have found two sound (mp3 files) which I will include in next release, hope fully this week end. One is of short length and the other is a bit longer, so that one does not miss it from next room :)

It will also be possible to play you choice mp3, wav etc. file, instead.

Yes, ralfs, you can change the hotkey from the 'settings' option (right click on tray icon for the menu). I have kept only the standard keys as special keys behave differently if language is different.

Yes, you can just press the underlined hotkey of the PTL popup menu, i.e Win+v then u to get 'uppercase' or Win+v then r followed by a to remove all blank spaces and duplicate blank lines from the text and paste it.

I am planning to walk on skwire's footmarks :), for next year.

I will search for some small, better portable, app which makes flv, avi, wmv or mk4 etc. and also uploads to youtube (will be bonus). No audio required, as I do not have any audio system. But will put text message at each step.

Wink or something, is one such I checked few years back, any other suggestion ?

My choice,

1. Contributing Developer
2. Finalist

Deozaan, please allow things to grow, not stay where it was. Please do not understand me wrong, but if we do not try something new, the enthusiasm of NANY may die some day. Case in point Win8, IPad, to try something new.

The sample 'certificate' bear's my name, Great ! I got one for my website first hand, thank you mouser. :-*

'participant' or 'winner' ?, if one seems like consolation prize, the other makes it top prize. There must be some in between. Google did not helped me, please some one from DC member chip in a good word.

'Development' just came in my mind. This make it look like ' one has developed something for the NANY 2012'. Well what you think ?

Thank you mouser and cranioscopical for the donation.

I am happy that Stick A Note proved useful to users.

I also take this opportunity to thank steeladept for the donation of "Overlap Wallpaper" and mouser for "Park Cursor Aside", which I thanked in private mail. But after reading some thread I knew that one can also say 'Thank you' in public  :)

Thanks, PhilB66 for the 'StickyTool' link. I will add it on 'Stick A Note' site as similar program along with GUM Notes and Context Notes. Well I will never be able to make all features of all similar programs and that is not my intention too. I am trying to take the features which, I think or the user tell me, are important for SAN usage. If you look from the other side of the river, you will find few features of SAN missing in them  :)

Thanks TaoPhoenix, and yes there many possibilities due to text file feature of SAN. In fact I got one paid project where I was able to show current attendance information as a 'Stick A Note' on a 3rd party program, which is very old and its developer had left, but was still very useful to the user. I can not reveal more as this is a paid project, but I know many developer here will get the hint  ;)

Anand

mouser, are the two glasses as a 'one of the choice' for the 'NANY mug' this year ?

Since my last year mug has similar image as this year one, so I may go for one of the glass.

Thank TaoPhoenix, IainB and all DC members for the appreciating SAN  :)

- floating note in a small window, for changing size and position.
- find text in all notes
- different folder for notes
etc. are on my mind.

Since I expected the world to know about SAN only after official announcement in Jan 2012, so was working slowing on the points, which already I had in my hand. But the reviews before that made me to fulfill the users expectations sooner. Last update was of few of the points.

GumNotes - freeware and shareware.- http://www.gumnotes.com/
Quick Notes Plus - shareware - http://conceptworld.com/QNP

are similar app of  which I checked GM, but somehow I was not satisfied with it. So I made SAN.

The main goal of SAN is to allow user to keep important notes of features, options, todo etc. of particular program or document at hand. SAN should not be a distraction or create rigidity for the user. It should be slave of user under his/her command.

As a professional developer for 15 years or so, I know that it is the data which is most important than the app. Many app will come and go, based on time and user choice but the data of each user will remain important for him/her.

This is the reason I choose text format over any type of database or rtf etc. If any thing happens to SAN or user finds a better app, he do not have to worry about his/her notes, which he may have made in the long run of time. They are always readable or transferable or copyable in all OS, cloud, app etc.

I try to put my self in all my apps, be it free or paid. I want user to remember me for my work and good apps.

Please give me some time as I have lots of project work to do. Will take up SAN points after that.

One again thank you all.

Regards,

Anand

kyrathaba I have changed the title to 'Release', so that you can take it after midnight. I will try to add any polish, if possible, before that.

Enhancements based on feedback will continue, as I get time.

rjbull, "Pasteboard" feature is something like when you copy any text in any program, it is automatically saved in a file sequentially. I do not think, I will get time for it now, as I am busy finishing "Stick A Note". Give me another 2 weeks or so.
