I am on vacation
-wreckedcarzz (July 24, 2007, 10:45 PM)

Recode the WHOLE thing, from scratch, using new knowledge, adding lots of features.
-wreckedcarzz (July 24, 2007, 10:45 PM)

I am working on that now.
-wreckedcarzz (July 24, 2007, 11:51 PM)
:o

You really should take a vacation from your "vacation", you workoholic...

You can now just clean ... or just optimize ..., run the all automatic programs ... just turn off/reboot your computer ... open Control Panel, Task Manager, run a check of your hard drive, scan for viruses/spyware/adware/malware/etc, protect your computer from viruses and spyware, and more.

However when i want something cool I go for XMP. I've just downloaded the latest version.

Welcome at DC, artkaye!

Did you by any chance happen to misspell "XMP"?, or maybe have a link to the page you downloaded from?? - because the only relevant XMP I could find was last updated January 2001 (!!!); and so I think a link to the right XMP would be really nice!  ;)

I have been using KMPlayer since Gizmo's Premium # 144 and I really like it a lot.

But I still have the integrated Media Player Classic / K-Lite Codec Pack as my default:

General Software Discussion / Re: XP or Vista user — take the poll!
« Last post by Curt on July 24, 2007, 10:13 AM »
So wise words you all have written!

Of course Vista will grow BIG as time goes bye, and I am looking forward to install it in 1, 2 or 3 years from now, but not at the moment. I imagine justice may be right when he said that the world needs more time to adjust to Vista (and vice versa!). The programs Vista users have for now may merely be programs developed for XP and modified for Vista; not taking advantage of what Vista can do.

Meanwhile 'someone' out there expects XP to somehow stay for long periode of time:

React Operating System

ReactOS® is an advanced free open source operating system providing a ground-up implementation of a Microsoft Windows® XP compatible operating system. ReactOS aims to achieve complete binary compatibility with both applications and device drivers meant for NT and XP operating systems, by using a similar architecture and providing a complete and equivalent public interface.

ReactOS is the most complete working model of a Windows® like operating system available. Consequently, working programmers will learn a great deal by studying ReactOS source code and even participating in ReactOS development.

ReactOS has and will continue to incorporating features from newer versions and sometimes even define the state of the art in operating system technology.

In short, ReactOS is aiming to run your applications and use your hardware, a free operating system for everyone!

Please bear in mind that ReactOS 0.3.3-RC is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature complete and is not recommended for everyday use.
Release time:

The long awaited 0.3.3 release is branched; the usual preparations for releases are under way. You should already know we skipped a version number and that this release is primarily bug fixes from the massive kernel rewrites that have been taking place. Stability being the primary motivation of this release, I can safely say this is a big improvement from the 0.3.1 release.

The outlook looks bright on future releases, ever closer to the 0.4 goal of beta status. The stated goal of 2 month releases is upheld (.3.2 was skipped ~2 months after 0.3.1 was released). It should be repeated that 2 month releases are not set in stone; releases are done at the convenience of the developers and at such a time when the code base is deemed worthy of a version bump.

The actual full release will occur soon, currently waiting on further testing, change logs, minor bug fixes, and other stuff.  The Release candidate can be downloaded here. Changelog is still a work in progress, but can be viewed here.
Alpha, not Beta, but RC, though: http://www.reactos.org/en/index.html

IMO Maxthon 1.6 has been the best Internet browser one can have, so I am very much looking forward to try Maxthon 2.

Maxthon 2.0.2.2961 BETA has just been released.

I too have the IconsExtract from Nir Sofer, but have noticed that some icons are being a little distorted in the extracting process. Was this just my copy?

I should tell that I hardly use the $40 ArtIcon Pro (that I had at $24) anymore.
The new kid in town is the FREE (Romanian) IcoFX
- which I think is easier to use and just as good.

Actually the design of the User's Interface makes me wonder if maybe both programs were written by the same guy, with IcoFX being a new and better version!

IcoFX.jpg

Edit: replaced "I don't use" with " I hardly use"
- because IcoFX is an editor, not a manager. ArtIcon Pro is both.

I am looking for an easy to use MP3 Player management Software:

Itunes
nice one, but IMO it is too slow

So I am looking for an alternative

Winamp
too crowded with all the different windows

MP3s only?  Then WMP 11 will do this as good as any.

Though the Desktop thingy is fun to play with.

http://www.xdrive.com/downloads/

cmpm; did not this Xdrive Desktop 'thingy' ask you to click okay to login at AIM at each PC Start ?? It did at my PC, so I removed the bastard; I will not have my programs asking me silly questions... I removed AIM as well. me2curt4u will answer no more...

Edit: I was very disappointed to see that AOL (AIM) again had installed a program (some mediaplayer) on my PC without first telling me and then did not remove it at AOL (AIM) uninstall. How dare they!?

This AIM is a mystery to me! Do all AIM users really accept having this stupid   tall   add poluted   window   on the side of the desktop?? Why on earth will AIM not offer to start hidden   minimized to systray?? Do they offer some 'pro' version which will fix this?

---

The plugin Gmail Notifier is a little stupid: It will offfer to start with Windows, but when it does, it will ask you first to click OK - with no option to auto-login in the future. Some feature!

Edit: Its not quite the same, but to my liking Skype is way ahead of both AIM and Gmail
- when it comes to being userfriendly.

Yes, I just did that too

It felt nice to have the Studio 9 Pro at only $9 and to upgrade my FREE Draw 4 to Draw 5 at $5

Thanks, Carol

I also have GIF Animator and Panorama Maker - had them (and Draw 4) for free at GiveAwayOfTheDay.

Anybody with either an AOL or AIM account (you can get both for free) can have a nice 5 gig XDrive account for free.

I'd like to see an SMF mod that provide me with an option in my profile to block every posting made by gri and every posting that is a reply to a posting by gri.

From the connection I think I can understand what a "gri" is. But my dictionary had no idea - and I have no idea - why it is "gri". So before I might be blocked I would very much like to know the translation of gri ? please!

- but the upcoming of "Search DC from your desktop" will take away the need for all this, I imagine.
6692
Yes, Wordzilla, but still the result is sorted by date only, and if you are to quote what it was mouser wrote some while ago, then you will have to search through hundreds and hundreds of posts - because you couldn't remember excatly when or where he wrote it, but you think that most likely he wrote about it when we talked about this or that - narrowing the places / pages you'll have to search through.
6693
Brandon, would you mind explaining why you have included both CCleaner AND CleanUp! ?
6694
... my idea of something approaching p*rn .. is seeing a new Seasonic Power Supply come out of the box or some new OCZ high performance memory.
-laughinglizard (July 17, 2007, 10:04 PM)

- so you are blocking that kind of stuff - right?  :D

I too am dreaming about high performance memory - only, I haven't got a clue.  :-[

What could you do with Ctrl+Scroll ??
Try it in your browser window. It should change the size of text. ..

Oh yes, remember now   I do. The feature I had   some time ago, but went away it did  when something else   installed was. Though funny it is: the function I have  still inside popups!

This look very similar to xp-AntiSpy. I will try this and compare.

xp-Antispy 3.96.5.final is ready for download and will now run a lot better on Vista.

XP-AntiSpy is a little utility that let's you disable some built-in update and authetication 'features' in WindowsXP. For example, there's a service running in the background wich is called 'Automatic Updates'. I don't know what this service transfers from my machine to other machines on the internet, especially the MS ones. So I play it safe and disable such functions. If you like, you can even disable these function manually, by going through the System and checking or unchecking some checkboxes. This will take you approximately half an hour. But why wasting time when a little neat utility can do the same in 1 minute? This utility was successfully tested by lots of users, and was found to disable all the known 'Suspicious' Functions in WindowsXP.
AntiSpy.gif
Relating to the last beta version, i basically changed the behaviour when running on Vista.
So far, when running the xp-AntiSpy on Vista it automatically started requiering administrative rights, you recognize that by the dialog thats pops up and asks for your permission. This is part of Windows Vista and is called User Account Control. I decided that it's better to let the xp-AntiSpy start with normal user privilleges, and get administrative rights only when it's needed.

So if you just want to check if every setting is in sync with the profile, you do not need to be administrator to do that.

I forgot to tell that Wilma is a genuine multi platform program:

...   Wilma was created not only to be more portable, but to live more comfortably in my much more networked environment. I originally implemented Wilma as a python based server accessed through a web browser, but ultimately found this lacked the snap I wanted. The current version makes use of the multiplatform capabilities of RealBasic to provide native desktop interfaces for Linux, Mac and Windows machines, while C++ is used for the core functionality  ...
- this now includes the new Intel Mac.

BTW:
... Wonderful little piece, she is - and updated so often you wouldn't believe it.   ...

I wrote this last quoted post on June 28' -("today" is July 17). Within these 20 days Wilma has been updated 3 times!! I guess this guy is determined to make Wilma flawless, as he was with the older brother Wilbur back in the Win98 days!

Very well explained  ;)  - I tried it but didn't like it.

If auto-scroll is what I explained, then auto-scroll by far is the best navigation metode for your hand (I suffer from carpal tunnel - in Danish called   Mouse-arm)!

:-[ ... would someone please explain what the heck this smooth scrolling is? I really don't know!

I navigate by clicking the wheel and move the mouse a little (hmm..: what program gave me this feature?). I would like to show you a nice little screenshot but FastStone won't capture all of it, so here is half of it:
