and as for quoting it with title, seems to me like just saying/doing the same thing...

If thats aimed at me, I had zero intention of causing any offense by leaving the title in place.  This was NOT written by me (Except the little laugh about their website).  This is how I Always Share website quotes, leaving the original title to be used as the title for my post.

thanks Stephen for that clarification, I didnt want to be offensive myself or start another war or anything :-[
btw I'm not personally offended by it but do find it offensive - if that makes sense (living in Germany you start to realise how big the guilt stick is and to see things from a different perspective). FWIW I would have put it in quotes myself to show they're not my words...

wheeling out comparisons to Nazis and Hitler when talking about the Facebook like button is ridiculous and an insult to the victims of the Nazis and World War II. Out of proportion even when compared to the arbitrary laws the nazis made...

it's an insult to everyone, Germans as well (but of course that's the tabloids main intention, and isn't it great to have someone to insult when you have such a big guilt stick to beat them with if they object, & who gives a toss if 90% of them weren't even born then etc etc)

and as for quoting it with title, seems to me like just saying/doing the same thing...

Tomos, does your monitor allow for portrait mode?

Yes, it's easy to use - but I dont actually use it.
What I also like about it is the 16:10 ratio, I think others monitors from Dell also use this format.

I removed that right-click titlebar to close bit (from Skwire). I was having bugginess at the time (with FF & FARR), & had a hunch it was related to that

Yep, messing with default behaviour like that can result in some wonkiness.  Keep in mind that you can always add a modifier to that RButton part (ctrl, alt, shift, win).
will try that,
thanks Skwire

Also, do you mind if I move this thread to the Finished section?
Please do :)

Thanks Winkie
You're welcome.
So, we can call this one done?
Or did you catch the AHK-virus and want some other features?

I removed that right-click titlebar to close bit (from Skwire). I was having bugginess at the time (with FF & FARR), & had a hunch it was related to that - that particular capability is not so important to me - but nice to have all the same.
I wanted to reintroduce it and see if it was in fact the problem.

Problably wont get to check that properly till tues

another vote for the Dell Ultra-Sharp series (my model is "e-IPS", whatever that is...)

Dell have a very good & cheap series of IPS monitors (recommended by Prad.de here)
http://www1.euro.del...e&l=de&s=gen

For some reason the 23" one is available for as little as 230 euro - seems a crazy price to me for an IPS panel.
I bought the matte 22" 2209WA exactly a year ago (for around e300) - it has almost perfect RGB out of the box. It's great for the price (lighting at the sides [on my screen] is slightly uneven but only noticeable it when screen is an even grey

(sorry, dont have any english links)

the 2209 model is 16:10 = 1680x1050

I see there's a 64bit version - would you recommend that?
Not sure about that. I have no experience with 64-bit.
[...]
But if you want to update to AHK_L the hotkey can become this:

"AHK_L" has a 64bit option when installing,
and, yes, your shortened version works perfectly with it :)

Thanks Winkie

It should be possible to show the standard Windows shutdown dailog. At least, ShutdownWindows works on my WinXP system (Can't test it on Win7).

tried the first example, it works

^^ Yes, I think you've nailed it.  I remember this now.  It was sort of confusing.  I'm using the background scheduler because it's the easiest.  But I am going to move things to a server soon and I'll probably go the service way for that.  Thanks for digging that up!

@tomos: what AutoHotkey version do you use?

1.0.47.06 - seems to qualify but I may as well bring it up-to-date:

I'll try one of those options from that link later - thanks!!

feels like between windows updates and testing here I've rebooted about 10 times in the last 24 hours :)

@Rover,
one of the reasons people are focusing on the rich is because of the imbalance that is getting ever more extreme between the rich and the poor. I actually think you're right, the solution is not to tax the rich more (although living where I do, I find 17% or even, God forbid, 23%, laughably low tax rates).**

But if this problem is not addressed, society as we know it will collapse, like in the 1920's/30's, maybe worse, maybe better, probably differently.
Unfortunately I dont have a solution, but first people/governments have to acknowledge it as a problem before things can even think about changing...

** I'm reminded of the old emmigrant song "The Green Fields of Amerikay/Canada"

Then it's pack up your seastores and tarry no longer
Ten dollars a week isn't very bad pay;
With no taxes or tithes to devour up your wages
When you're on the green fields of Amerikay

With version 5.49/a I had a problem with the "Background Scheduler" on two different machines (XP & Win7). It didnt start with windows/login as it should. There has been updates since which may have resolved this, but apparently the best thing to do (for those not in the know) is to install the "Service Scheduler".
Details here
http://superflexible.com/docup.htm

Interesting.  I know in the older versions, there was some complicated setup of the service installation vs background running, etc.  In the newer version, it seemed to be simplified to a start/stop button in the application that worked much better than before, and the installer stopped asking the user if they wanted to install the service.  I've had no problems with it since, but if I wanted to have the service running in a more dedicated manner, I'd use the service.  I like being able to easily start stop it right now with the button.

think we need a screenshot to clarify -

Screenshot - 2011-08-19 , 07_42_27.png

You can still stop/start it AFAICS.**
After my experience I would highly recommend using the Service Scheduler (Tobias also recommended it over the "Background" one when I reported the problem). I'm just after installing it on Win7 but I cant remember was the service selected or not - didnt get installed anyways. You can install it by selecting it from the drop-down list (see mouse arrow) and then install options show.

** Edit/ no, it's not clear - if I click on "Stop Scheduler" it still says "service is running", as in the lower part of the screenshot.

Why not just have the key combination bring up a system modal dialog with shutdown, reboot, sleep, and cancel options? Sure it's an extra click, but it'll cleanly bypass the oh shit factor.
if it's possible,
that would be best option I think, also with having all the choices at hand.

@justice - the last change works, but not very well - the cancel option is hidden behind the message that it will close in 30 seconds.
One of the previous versions also said it would close in 30 secs, but closed after literally a couple of seconds, so I'm a bit wary of it...

Change the shutdown line to:
#Q::Shutdown, 8
That will definitely work because I lifted it straight from the AHK help file :D

Yeah, the last one actually worked too - I had forgotten that I'd commented it out :-[
But it works scarily good :tellme: - everything gets killed, no questions asked (so far).
Anyone know if it's possible to bring up the shutdown dialogue? That would feel safer....

The shutdown hotkey didnt work.
[edit] user error. If it works I'll report back tomorrow!! [/edit]

older version...
Not a biggee, but if this were possible:

Re shutdown (remember, not tested yet), is there a way of raising the Alt+F4 windows shutdown dialogue?
That way I would get to choose exactly what I want, but more importantly I would have to confirm, so I would be covered in case of mistaken use of shortcut.

Edit/ and I had to disable Hibernate earlier, not working properly, ah well...

Edit #2/ weird side-effect - if I right-click on the script, the shutdown dialogue shows as long as I keep right button pressed :)

^ I'm being a lazy beggar about this one (i.e. any or all problems reported) - I just needed a handful of shortcuts and I getting help in that coding snack thread I started

Double clicking the left corner of the titlebar will also close a window by default. But I'm curious as to why right clicking the titlebar would be easier than using the red X in the right corner. Do you have a lot of large multi monitor windows?

I think I started using the right-click with an AHK script years ago (Nifty Windows? it was buggy so I transferred it to PowerPro). And it does save time and effort, even with single monitor & full screen app [& Fitt's Law of course :)]. I avoid doubleclicks like the plague - when I'm drawing, I can get through a few thousand mouse-clicks a day. I would prefer almost anything to a double click ;)

Politely said, going from Firefox version 4 to version 6, has been painless.
I didn't notice any changes at all.
Is it a little faster? Maybe.

Edited:
I think Thunderbird has improved quite a bit, going from 4 to 6. ;-)

. . . seems I was updated to FF6, I didnt notice at all (I thought it was a minor update)

Thunderbird 5 had already fixed a few bugs for me and looks a lot better I find. Havent used #6 yet really.
