Someone posted here (maybe a year ago?) about a game - almost exactly as you describe, but not customisable. Cant remember the name, hopefully someone else can.

^ ??? (is blank a comment?)

OK, I'm missing the last two posts. Quotes but no post otherwise. Intended? Or something screwy w/the forum?

Renegade accidentally put his response within the quote - Stephen was pointing that out for him I guess.

if it's not too much hassle that would be great

One other thing: by default Echo minimizes when it loses focus. So instead of clicking the small button - whether minimize or close - you can just click anywhere on screen to get the same end result.

true, I didnt realise that initially & was closing the window and expecting it to be in the tray. So, on second thoughts it's not worth adding!

Great, you've found the first bug! :)
...

Just to be sure I'm on the right track: select a clip but instead of pressing Enter, press Ctrl+C. This will only copy the clip (without pasting) and Echo will stay open. The clip you have copied should move to the top immediately.

That works, clip goes to top.

PS thanks for all the shortcuts, will have to read help file closer next time :-[ :)

I think it would be helpful if the close button minimised it to the tray. Or maybe it's just what I'm used to with apps that stay in the tray?

I never use that myself (I use the minimize button for that :-) but I can add this as an option, no problem.

Still on the basics. It looks very nice btw :-)

I've made a couple of clips sticky, but how do I get to the sticky tab? (Without the mouse I mean). Tabkey toggles just list & search.

It says in the help file
"bring up Echo ... notice that the clip you have just pasted is now the first one on top."
This often takes a good while to actually happen. I noticed it not happening, then checked a few times after pasting - once it happened promptly, then it didnt seem to be happening at all, but did happen eventually i.e. it didnt happen within the first 10 to 15 seconds after pasting.

I can see advantages to the way it is - maybe I just gotta get used to it ;)

Living Room / Re: Migrating Win7 installation to SSD
« Last post by tomos on September 07, 2011, 03:54 AM »
From my, (admittedly not extensive), experience, Windows 7 always seems to include the 100MB System Reserved partition when it does a new install to a blank HDD, ie. not a single partition formatted HDD.
I think that's correct -
Windows 7 installation wizard will not modify existing partition which already been defined and allocated. The 100 MB .. partiton will only be created when user creates new partition on a clean and empty HDD (no partitions) [with the windows install dvd], or delete all partitions and then create a new partition during setup. Thus, system with hard disk already partitioned, and users wish no change to existing partitioning but wish to clean install can just format the partition in Windows 7 setup wizard before installing.
http://www.mydigital...nstalling-windows-7/
i.e. Windows only creates that partition if starting on a 'clean' (partitionless) hd

Yeah, I just skimmed the article,
but I didnt see any mention of the 100MB System partition.

Do you have that in your current setup kyrathaba?

still,
sounds like it's slowly getting there

"it still only previews one font at a time." - this is untrue as it will preview one font, all fonts or the font a user selects.

true -they missed that- it was easy enough to find too. (just installed it on win7 - works fine)
the second paragraph is not so positive but the first
CFontPro from Veign will be the top choice for many. It has a wide range of views including a glyph viewer and character zoom to pixel level. It provides more font information than any of the font managers here.
sounds pretty good...

I'm still a bit gun shy regarding the Themida anti-piracy software that gets installed with it.

are you talking about the Advanced Font Viewer there Jim?

You could always try mine:

It's free.

also on Gizmo's page Best Free Font Manager

I dont know hardly anything about the command line; but using a piece of software intensively, I find the interface is extremely important.

So a very big +1 to the combination of a good GUI with good/flexible keyboard shortcuts

It did (2008) get a very good review at Smashing Magazine (link in first post above)
MainType is an universal font management tool for both novice users and advanced graphic designers and typographers. In order to find the right fonts for your needs, the software includes filter and sort functionality. The main information about the font, such as its properties, supported characters, font type etc. are displayed in a font information pane. A groups pane helps you quickly organize all your fonts.
my emphasis

If you're seriously considering it, have a look at this MainType forum thread - they're considering a rewrite because it cant cache the details of your fonts - this means it currently has to read all your fonts on startup and people are saying it's slow (doesnt seem to be included in the list of improvements above). For me this is not a problem - I have only 200 fonts installed.

MainType 4 is out - I never upgraded to 3 so am going for #4
They're not overly informative about the details

   New user interface
    Improved performance
    New user views
    Quick search
Optimized support for large font collections
Easy backup and restore of your font library
    New layout features improves usability
    Detailed side-by-side font information

I gotta admit - I tried the free Nexusfont recommended by Gizmo - looks nice, but the portable version was unable to uninstall a font [Win7 64bit] so that prompted me to upgrade.

The extra white space cannot be solved -- it has to do with the way notepad displays windows contents and never displays a partial line at the bottom.

now that I think of it, there was white space below the last visible number - I think I reduced this for the first shot but not for the second.
Good luck on your journey into the autoscroll  :D

Tomos, that is an important clue.

So can i confirm -- with "windows 7 basic" you get a good capture, but with other themes you don't?

Yes, with "windows 7 basic" theme, I got a good capture [1] earlier of those numbers, using your instructions, in notepad. I just did another -same theme- [2] which isn't quite as good (see the white spaces, but no doubling up of numbers).

[1]Screenshot - 2011-09-06 , 09_54_47.png

[2]Screenshot - 2011-09-06 , 14_28_43.png

only difference between the two was the time of day, and that I made the Notepad window narrower for [2]

i wonder if the problem is windows (7) themes..

yes, in this example anyways, it is - I get a perfect screenshot with the "Windows 7 Basic" theme.
Problem screenshot was with an Aero theme.

EDIT/ with that theme, or with Classic theme, I'm unable to capture this page (sorry!)

I get doubling up of some numbers, presumably where it's joined?

Screenshot - 2011-09-05 , 22_48_10.png

also, I notice the last 2- 3- 4- 555 are repeated

Win7 pro 64 bit - if you need hardware details just ask (I'll have to check)

BTW, I tried to capture today this page
http://www.nokia.fr/...x7-00/specifications
with various tools, and it's the only one which was able to capture the page without the bold fonts to appear garbled.

FWIW, InfoQube copies that perfectly (with "copy URL content" & "save as mht" selected). Mind you, I've met a good few pages that it does have trouble with - but mainly formatting in fairness.
