General Software Discussion / Re: Userbar Generator: Cool Freeware
« Last post by Curt on October 10, 2007, 05:12 PM »
I was disapoointed with the amitysource ...

Frankly, I am disappointed with both amitysource and Userbar Generator, and with all the sites mentioned in reply #3. What good are these small blurred letters?? Didn't anybody write a program to make it easy to make a nice looking userbar with some message which you can actually read? Is it really necessary to use PhotoShop or The Gimp?

General Software Discussion / Re: Managing projects with OUTLOOK
« Last post by Curt on October 10, 2007, 01:39 AM »
I was looking through hundreds of addons for Outlook but didn't find any project manager.

Maybe there is no-one?   :o

Thanks, laughinglizard

- and may I add: Zoho Projects is also free ("free" as in gratis, not "FREE") if you merely are to create a single (one; 1) not-open-source project.

Zoho Projects has a plugin for Office, though they do charge according to how many projects you need to manage. http://www.zoho.com/

Zoho Projects is 100% free for open-source projects.

General Software Discussion / What features would you like to see in NoteZilla?
« Last post by Curt on October 08, 2007, 08:42 AM »
... I was going to suggest Notezilla myself but for an awesome FOSS alternative look no further than Stickies.

Hello (Curt) "DonationCoder's Forum",

(Thanks for sharing your feedback and suggestion.)

Can you tell us what exactly you like more in Stickies so that we can take only the best aspects of Stickies?
As we think, not eveything about Stickies is good.

General Software Discussion / Re: kmplayer, whoa!!!
« Last post by Curt on October 07, 2007, 01:00 PM »
Maybe you should update / upgrade your QuickTime Player. The playback of this file in QuickTime Player PRO 7.2 is absolutely flawless.

KMPlayer is okay, though - that's why I have kept it for half a year by now - but MPC is a little less buggy.

Is there a way to directly write notes onto the Windows desktop?
.. if you use sticky notes ..

- as TucknDar said: NoteZilla > Create Note > (Settings) > send note to desktop:

DesktopNoteZilla.gif

And what's more: the note will stay on the desktop, even after a PC restart!  Edit: - and you can combine the note with a reminder - popup, or a sound track!

General Software Discussion / Re: What's your preferred File Manager
« Last post by Curt on October 07, 2007, 02:56 AM »
@ SirSmiley - I remember having a look at FindeXer a long time ago, but was thinking that I should wait for the promised "Final Version 1.1" because the author himself was talking about bugs. Now it seems that he for almost 1½ year has given up on any final version, so I ask, if your version ("build 3"?) of FindeXer has any bugs worth mentioning?

It is good to see so many different people posting at this thread

I am kind of giving up on XYplorer. Not because it is bad - it is quite good - but because XP's Explorer is so much better. I trialed Dopus, but will not miss it. All you Dopus fan should follow the recommendation from azza and others and try out your standard Explorer, and amplify it with Quizo, for one. Well, let me stay with "for one", because I really shouldn't begin a list of addons for Explorer, should I; such a list will be almost endless. I have so many apps for Explorer that every week I disable some of them, in order to test some of the others. I can see no reason to settle with Dopus - except maybe for the dual pane, but I have others for that feature. One of them, a dual pane file manager, I found only today: the gratis Commander, by MeeSoft. It is certainly no replacement for Explorer, because this is truly a FILE manager (and picture viewer, CMYK included), not a Path Finder! Not even close!! But when you are inside the right folder, and all you need is a file manager, then this little Commander is surprisingly well equipped!

One feature I will need is the kind of tooltip that shows you a lot of the text from the object I am pointing at. Headlines alone will not do. Also, it should handle RTF format.

At the moment I am forced to Outlook Express, so I miss my Outlook 2003 sooo much! - for exactly the very reason you started out with: there are so many plugins, addons, to make life easy. I think Outlook is like Explorer: it is okay but not much, but then there are the addons, plugins, and suddenly you have something powerful!!

... better to specialize in one thing well then try to do it all ...

You said it

One last question:
About the donation box (on the first run of EasyControl)...

(Reply with all that apply ;D)

1) It is annoying

Yes, it is!

- and maybe even a little disappointing as well, because only a few ever will donate anyway, and those who will   will look for the donate button. In my time I have removed quite a number of programs  because the author asked a little too pushy for donations, and maybe I didn't feel the program was all worth it. But the buttomline is that only a few ever will donate, so you must decide if your program is FREE or ...

5) It should be replaced with the DonationCoder.com donate dialog (not sure if this can be done, but I could always try!)

IMO this is a good idea!

Best of luck!

Thanks a lot, tinjaw.

I have by now seen and re-seen (?) a thousand Calvin & Hobbes images / strips, but sadly not the one I was looking for, so here is instead what my desktop will look like when sometimes my Desktop_Icon_Toy breaks down - and boy, I don't like the sight of it, because this does really not bring peace to my mind:

I was going to answer Carol's post, using a drawing I remember from an old Calvin & Hobbes strip, but Google gave me some 2.8 million answers on 'Calvin' (because of Klein). So I am asking you all, how to search (images) for Calvin but not for Calvin Klein ??
6446
@ skwire - no problems found, [Edit: wow, you just wrote about this, and I didn't see it!) but it would be so nice if you will add option the keep the original name of the file, please! ie: picSomeName.jpg => picSomeName.jpg.zip, or picSomeName.jpg => picSomeName.zip

Edit2: To clear it up a little: Webshots images's name is vital to another file which contains informations abouth the picture. So the name of the picture cannot / must not be changed.

... I don't know what a Chad is.

Nor do I. The closest Babylon came was this:
1. a small piece of paper that is supposed to be removed when a hole is punched in a card or paper tape
-Babylon, on the word "chad"

...  I don't have a two monitor setup, so I can't try these fancy different things.

FYI: DialogMove is not one of those fancy things,
it is very suitable for any single monitor as well.

I use Dialog Move and is happy with it. No need to be a shame  - the only problem I have found is that some info windows which really shouldn't move, also are moving.

- I was confusing apples with pears ... Floppy Office with PortableApps Suite! BTW, the new Floppy Office ZIP is 1.87 MB, so I cannot see the unzipped collection fit a floppy anymore.
