Type: historys That will show you your most recent "searches" (or things you typed in like that run command).
Even quicker: hit ctrl+Up arrow and ctrl+Down arrow to scroll through them. this is particularly usefull when you just want to rerun something you just did, since its just one Ctrl+Up and then hit enter.

I guess probably the one interesting thing to try is typing: historyr This will now show recent files saved/loaded from the Windows OS save/load dialog [as found in the system registry] and could be a nice way to find files when you can't remember the name of what you are looking for. These files are also searched for as if they are cached, so they should come up in results quickly and with higher scores. [note also the previous keywords: historys and historyl will show your last searches and launches, so this fits right in].
Now I changed the way shortcut icons are resolved -- this fixes an issue where shortcuts has custom icons that weren't being shown.. however it is not clear to me whether this will break anything, so please let me know if you notice that the new FARR is not showing icons correctly in some cases (especially for shortcut .lnk files).
I hope to update FARR more rapidly now that i have somewhat re-acquainted myself with the code..

I have released a new beta -- first in a long time. Some bug fixes, some new features, and a couple of changes that MIGHT break things -- so let's see...
Version 2.217.01 - Mar 18, 2015
[Feature] FARR now understands how to search certain windows registry keys to find lists of recently saved documents and recently run applications; if configured in search folder paths it will search these lists quickly. You can also view them explicitly by typing: "historyr". See the "History" option tab for more information and options.
[Feature] You can now customize the fixed font used when memo display is showing fixed font output (such as when displaying result of console output, appcap output, etc.).
[Feature] You can now drop files onto the search edit box and it will append them to existing search comments.
[Feature] Alias results can now contain % environmental variables.
[BugFix] Reset to defaults option on custom font settings tab was not resetting all options.
[BugFix] Hint for "Use generic icons for folders" option was wrong.
[BugFix] Option for "Do not add network drive paths to lauch history (they can slow search)" under Settings/Search Behavior was not being saved.
[BugFix] Right-click menu items for custom alias entries with custom /ICON values were not triggering correctly.
[Change] Changed the way shortcut (.lnk) icons are resolved for display -- waiting for reports if this helps or hurts.
[MinorFeature] Added special search modifier +launchone that will launch the matching alias as soon as there is only one result in display.

You can use the "manual" scrolling capture mode to let you do the panning as Screenshot Captor takes different images. Or if there are keyboard shortcuts that will do the panning in your target app, you could tell SC to "scroll" (pan) using keyboard keys.

To answer your question more directly -- the red box capture mode requires more steps but has handles for adjusting capture region during capture -- it was the original method of capturing a region. The newer mode was designed to allow you to select a region much quicker by forgoing the use of drag handles and allowing the user to just very quickly click, drag, and release.

There is actually a Red Box Capture mode you can select in the options as an alternate way of selecting a region to capture -- that has handles. Give it a try.

yes, i think i am pretty much convinced to go back to having plain cursor keys move cursor endpoint.
but please note, the ONLY different between old and new beta is that with the new beta you use SHIFT plus cursor keys to move the endpoint position.
but again, i think i will change it so that you use normal cursor keys as before, and SHIFT+cursor keys will move the entire selection rectangle without changing its size.

I understand what you are saying completely -- and i am still unsure whether to change behavior to make it work like it used to.
Let me explain what i changed, how to do what you used to do, and ask people what they prefer.
The only change with the new version to do what you want is step 5 -- you now have to hold SHIFT to nudge the end point position. The reason for that is that now moving the plain cursor keys will move the entire rectangle.
I could of course swap that, and make plain cursor keys always nudge the current cursor location -- as it worked before. in some ways that seems clearer. The only reason i did it like i did is that it more closely mirrors what happens WITHIN Screenshot Captor when using cursor keys to adjust the current selected region.

Does anyone know if there is a file format that is understood by video players for storing timecodes/bookmarks for videos? I'd be more amenable to adding a feature to ESR for letting you create markers/notes in a video file if there was a standard file format for such things.

Ok let's see:
Adding hotkey to save frame quickly -- not a bad idea, i can add that. Option to lock onto a window so that the capture moves location when window moves -- that's a nice idea, i will add that. Option to pass commandline paramter to specify what window to capture, sounds reasonable. Ability to capture from window even if it's covered or minimized -- probably not easy.

not a bad idea; ill add it to my todo list. btw in case it's not clear -- those hotkeys are non-editable to protect user from messing with some good defaults, but you can always disable (uncheck) a built in one and create a replacement with the same hotkey.
