I'd be glad to help but since I already own the game I can't even gift the 4-pack. It's strange that in order to buy the 4-pack you must buy it for yourself.

As far as I know, anybody can submit an app to the Android Market. Is that correct? Why is Google making Chrome OS and not Android OS (for PCs)?

I'm not really getting why the iPhone "experience" is *still* considered so stand-out.

Because you have to give an arm and a leg to get an iPhone. And everybody knows that a paraplegic stands out!

I don't know about the iPad, but it seems to me that "turning pages" on the Kindle is what would slow you down the most for that device.

Hi ha14,

While I agree that these RAM "cleaners" are worthless and can do more harm than good, I just wanted to say thanks for pointing out an offer you came across with the DC community.

Wow, it's even Black & White?

And it looks like the same people are making The Whisperer in the Darkness, which I just read the other day. Another Black & White.

When referring to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, are you referring to the remake (2005) or the original (1920)? I haven't seen either of them, I'm just curious.

Also, why would bumper guards help with a SOFTWARE issue?

Holding it "the right way" and putting it inside a completely optional $30 upgrade makes the software suddenly calculate the correct value. DUH!

So that iPhone 4 bug where reception diminshes if you hold the phone a certain way? Turns out you weren't hurting reception at all -- the phone was just showing the proper reception. Finally.

Antenna problems? What antenna problems?

Apple says it's a software glitch not a hardware glitch:

"Upon investigation, we were stunned to find that the formula we use to calculate how many bars of signal strength to display is totally wrong," Apple said in a letter from two executives posted on its website Friday morning.

The letter went on to explain that there are no problems with the iPhone's antenna -- the only problem is with software that calculates how many bars should be showing. And the software hasn't worked properly since the original iPhone was released three years ago.

I've already seen fanboys in the comments say something to the effect of "What do you expect from first-gen hardware? There's always glitches like this and this one is actually very minor!"

Problem is, there's a big fat 4 in "iPhone 4" showing that this isn't the first-gen hardware. This problem (assuming they're telling the truth, which seems dubious since other people say they have two phones on AT&T services and the iPhone constantly drops while the non-iPhone works great) has been around for all 4 generations of the iPhone.

Speaking of which, is that movie (1984) any good? Or are there any good film adaptations of the book?

While I'm at it, are there any good movies based on the Cthulhu mythos that are also relatively clean? As in rated PG-13 or below? I don't mind violence and gore so much (to a point) but I find sex and profanity in films to often be just unnecessary and detrimental.

And to further narrow the options, are any of them available on Netflix's Instant Watch in the USA? (I'm not sure if Netflix is international.)

Huh? I thought you wanted a full 8.5x11 size screen? If my math is correct, that would be nearly a 14" (diagonal) screen.

where as in Asian countries it's much more respectful and kind to live and provide for your family.

You make good points, the difference though is that this guy is living with his family, but they are providing for him. Yet from the tone of the article, that seems to be the norm. In my opinion, providing everything for your children when they are capable of providing for themselves does not teach autonomy. It enables, teaches, and encourages harmful dependence.

It should be noted that the 1C Racing pack sale ($5 USD) is good until July 4th.

And yet Finland becomes the first country to make broadband a legal right for every citizen.
http://news.bbc.co.u...hnology/10461048.stm

I don't think that's a good idea either. IMO, internet access isn't a right to be guaranteed by the government to every citizen just for being alive. All that does is cause the government to tax everyone (whether you use internet or not) so they can provide the service. That's not even going into details of who "owns" the service (government or private sector) and what that might implicate.

Found Deals and Discounts / FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage [Deal is Over]

EDIT: Deal's Over

Hey all,

Yes this is another topic on a Steam sale.

FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage for $2 USD for about the next 14 hours. Deal's over!

FlatOut Ultimate Carnage lifts destruction racing to a whole new level of bone-breaking slaughter. FlatOut Ultimate Carnage is arcade destruction racing at its best and most extreme with real world physics, three different game modes and offering players a wide variety of online and offline multiplayer options.

I haven't played it yet (I'm downloading it) so I can't really recommend it, but the price is so good it would have to be really terrible to feel ripped off from this one. If you like racing game or know someone who does, this could be a nice unexpected gift for the amount of money you could probably find in your car or under your couch cushions. ;)

I've also been known to help people out who have difficulties purchasing through Steam. If that applies to you and you want this game, PM me for more info.

I have an extra copy of Grand Theft Auto 4 that I don't want, but would appreciate reimbursement/trade for.

Normally it's $20, but is on sale now for $15. But I'm willing to trade on Steam for anything on my wishlist that is $5 ($4.99) or more. Especially if it's one of the daily specials for something that is greatly discounted. (Such as Red Faction: Guerrilla for $5 today)

It's been claimed.

I just hope it turns out better than the plot summary.
That shouldn't be too hard.
I'd almost believe you if it wasn't for the fact I've seen plot summaries that read better than the movie :P

That wasn't a guarantee. I just said it shouldn't be too hard. Especially considering how bland the plot summary is for the movie on IMDB at this moment. ;)

General Software Discussion / Re: A cool Screen saver

I think you misunderstand me.

I'm saying that a screen saver has no way of knowing what the "power saving" settings are set to, and as such should always be designed as if the screen would be on indefinitely.

If the descriptions seem vague, the quotations from the Necronomicon maddeningly short, the 'known' facts incomplete and sometimes even contradictory, don't be surprised. Lovecraft deliberately wrote it that way.

Yes, perhaps I was a bit unfair or unclear. I'm not disappointed in the stories. Rather, I wanted to learn everything there was to learn about the Cthulhu mythos from Lovecraft himself, so my expectation that all would be revealed was disappointed by the fact that one cannot know the unknowable.

I wanted my curiosity satiated, but the nature of the topic is that it only becomes curiouser the more you uncover.

2. And while screen burn in (or LCD "persistence") is still an occasional problem, under normal circumstances it shouldn't be an issue with something like this. You need to leave the monitor on for very extended periods of time with static screen elements in place for that to happen. I've only seen persistence occur (and that very rarely) on things like order entry kiosks, status boards, or other "ON-24/7" setups where the screen acts more as a control panel or entry keypad.

Yeah, I know modern screens shouldn't have much of a problem without them being on for a very long time (in the > 24 hour range, IIRC), but a screen saver's job is to save the screen, not rely on the user to set his monitor to shut off.

FWIW: I set my screensaver to come on in 15 minutes and my monitor to shut off after 30 in order avoid wasting electricity. So should most people. If you're getting screen burn from a screensaver on one of today's monitors, you're probably leaving it powered on way too long anyway. So save a few cents along with your monitor by taking advantage of available powersaver settings. It's good for your wallet - and good for our planet too!

FWIW: I think I have you beat. I've got the screensaver set to 10 minutes and to shut off the signal at 20 minutes. Though it doesn't actually cut power to the monitor. The LED still blinks as it waits for a signal to come through. And though I agree it's good advice to have settings similar to ours, I don't expect everybody to know it's possible, take the time, or even have the permissions (corporate PCs) to do it. Thus my insistence that screen savers do their job.

Sounds like the law of the harvest to me. That which you reap, you sow.

By "babying" their children well into adulthood, their children become very old, large babies.
