A collection of programming and algorithm tutorials, with embedded interactive visualizations that you can play with to better get a feel for what's being explained.  Some very cool stuff.

Staying on topic, another take on the google article:

Google reportedly blackmailed websites into giving it content for free

According to the report, for one example, Google took content from companies like Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Amazon. In the latter case, Google lifted product rankings and placed them in their own search results for those products. When the companies complained to Google about the process, Google threatened to remove them entirely from results. The Journal quotes this section of the report: "It is clear that Google’s threat was intended to produce, and did produce, the desired effect, which was to coerce Yelp and TripAdvisor into backing down." The Commission ultimately had Google agree to let websites opt out of the process.

So strange.. I'd love to know what the problem is.. My experience has been if one person has a problem, there are abound to be others that have it too and are just suffering silently..
Again, I could send you a debug version which would help us figure out the proximal cause if you like.

The problem is caused by an unreleased plugin I've made.

ah ok, i won't worry about it then.

feel free to message me though, i could either send you a debug version or you could send me the plugin and i may be able to help track down the problem more quickly.

General Software Discussion / Re: Remove Embedded Watermarks in Videos
« Last post by mouser on March 20, 2015, 11:41 PM »
There are also legitimate other reasons one might want to remove a video watermark -- for example if the watermark makes it extremely annoying to watch some content you are legally entitled to.
But I take Jimdoria's point -- if you are doing this in order that you can distribute/sell/remove-credit-from videos that someone else has made, against their wishes, we don't approve of such things and this forum is not the appropriate place to learn how to do that.

From slashdot:

'We've always suspected that Google might tweak its search algorithms to gain an advantage over its rivals — and, according to an FTC investigation inadvertently shared with the Wall Street Journal, it did. Quoting: "In a lengthy investigation, staffers in the FTC's bureau of competition found evidence that Google boosted its own services for shopping, travel and local businesses by altering its ranking criteria and "scraping" content from other sites. It also deliberately demoted rivals. For example, the FTC staff noted that Google presented results from its flight-search tool ahead of other travel sites, even though Google offered fewer flight options. Google's shopping results were ranked above rival comparison-shopping engines, even though users didn't click on them at the same rate, the staff found. Many of the ways Google boosted its own results have not been previously disclosed.'

"WASHINGTON—Officials at the Federal Trade Commission concluded in 2012 that Google Inc. used anticompetitive tactics and abused its monopoly power in ways that harmed Internet users and rivals, a far harsher analysis of Google’s business than was previously known."

My AHK script "SelectoSurf" does almost exactly this.  You could easily modify the AHK script to launch your app instead of the default browser.

I suppose you're right that it would be a good idea to have some way to launch and tell FARR to keep searching.. i'll add it.

If none show icons, can you try going into the options to the Tweaks and Debugging tab, and make sure you don't have one of those 2 options checked that say to disable icons.

even in the beta, it's not showing custom icons on any aliases?!?

try this: type "cpanel"

all of those cpanel aliases use a custom specified icon.

do those all show up without displaying nice icons?

the mru plugin is much nicer all around, the main benefit of this being built into farr now is that these recent documents will always be searched quickly when you do a general search and get bonus scores -- so they will come up instantly and be highly ranked when you search for them -- rather than only appearing when you explicitly list them.

Yeah those exe files are coming from a registry key that is looking less and less useful unfortunately.. i'll probably change it to ignore those.
