I have had both programs for some months by now, but I have still not found any use for them - except for the fun of it. I guess you have to have some kind of vision - and the proper material to make it happen. I have thousands of fine pictures, but I seem to be missing a vision...

... I write fiction in my spare time, everything from modules for games to actual novels, and I find it perfect for that, ....  I'd heartily recommend it to any writers, ...

As a writer you should give it to yourself to try out the portable Liquid Story Binder from Black Obelisk Software. The author of the program is constantly updating the program, and on the forum there are almost never any talk of bugs. The manual is somewhat poor / "unpedagogic", and support is via the forum, but as one can see on the forum, the author is answering many questions a day, so please don't ask this IT-illiterate (me) how it works (though I can tell that it has music playlists!).

The program: Liquid Story Binder at www.blackobelisksoftware.com
The asking price: $45.95 once (from Plimus) + 'Order CD' option
The forum: http://tech.groups.y.../group/Liquid_Story/

Features:

Dossiers: Create Dossiers for major characters and settings. Timelines: Plot your novel by organizing cards along colored timelines. Storyboards: Combine images and text to create a visual reference board. Outlines: Create a collapsible tree of plot ideas. Image Galleries: Organize your reference images into galleries. Builders: Organize complex scenes using titles, descriptions, and color indexing. Position Memory: Liquid Story Binder XE remembers just where you left off. Manuscript Building: Combine multiple chapters into a single manuscript automatically. Printing: Preserve your font and paragraph editing with Format Printing. Workspaces: Preserve your favorite window layouts for quick access. Project Goals: Words per day, words left to write, days remaining, multi-document word counts. Color Schemes: Create the perfect writing environment with your favorite window colors. Recordings: Record yourself reading your own novel. Test for pacing and time. File Listings: Organize all your files into easy-access file trees. Backups: Every Chapter has its own backup repository. Never lose a single word with automatic version and session backups. Compress your whole archive into a single ZIP file. Shortcuts: Quickly access your favorite external software and documents. Statistics: Times, Word Counts, Goals, Sessions, Versions, Days. Reader: Read over your work in a easy to view columned window, free of editing distractions. Music Playlists: Add your MP3s and sort them into playlists. Set the mood for writing. External Editing: Open your work outside of Liquid Story Binder.

Your setup must suffer from some kind of mismatch, I think. I have not noticed any delay worth mentioning caused by NOD32.

Too soon to tell the answer, isn't it?  - the week-end is only at the beginning... 8)

However, I should mention and apologize that there has been some colour distortion in picture #2 - they are still pretty close to the original, but they are not the exact colours anymore.

General Software Discussion / Re: Help needed (again): Miro "destroyed" all my videos!

Thanks.

It was and is "@C:\WINDOWS\inf\unregmp2.exe,-9905", as you said.  :tellme:

Another problem: I also tried to change the flash video types, but obviously forgot what the proper text was before I changed it - so now I have re-changed it into something wrong! I know I should have stayed in bed this morning! Please take yet a look in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and tell what text is in .flv > Default > Data [Edit: It was of course "Miro.1". Now I am going to bed!]

Hmm... I now know that it doesn't help to merely change the text in the Data key. The file type is still described as a Miro.1 and will just open up the text editor, when db'clicked. Nothing seems to have changed. I am back in the dark.

Anyone with an opinion on this matter?  :tellme:

I have noticed that MPC (= KLCP) in many situations is very modest. For example extension icons are not always changed when MPC becomes default - sometimes but not always. At least not on my PC.

@ jgpaiva, do you use BSPlayer for all the (common) video file types? I suddenly realize that I don't know what the text should say, if I try to change it - as I don't use BSPlayer. Does any of you guys have K-Lite's Media Player Classic as your default player, and care to tell what the text in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > .avi > Data > Default is saying?

 :tellme:

Edit: I already know that, don't I. My screenshot is telling the answer: KLCP AVI File

- well, it has been a long and stressfull day. Hope you will forgive me. But of course, I have not yet tried to change the text, so I don't know yet if I am in the clear or not. Talk to you later!

This is hard for me to believe and just as hard to tell: I have done it again!

Well, not really "me", but Miro. The final version 1.0 is on the street and I just had to give it yet another try. But Miro is still far too sluggish for my weak and unstable XP, so I removed it again after a couple of hours, and Bang, there you have it!: All video file types are again miro.1 !!  :wallbash:

- and this time my "reset-trick " didn't work. The file types are still wrong.

The problem:

When uninstalling Miro 1, it did not change the file types back to what they were before Miro was installed. [Edit: .divx was and is okay because Miro does not change the divx type]

The problem now is not the file associations, but the file types.

The extension is right, but the description is wrong. In the Explorer column type, any .divx video is listed as a divx video file, and any avi file should be listed avi file, but is described as a miro.1 type.

I can right-click any video file and say "always open with X-Player", and X-Player will open it and play it, but that will not change the "perceived" video file type; it will still be wrong (miro.1), (except for .divx)

-  and the video file will just open the text editor when double-clicked.

 :tellme:
... Should the above fail, you could try to open regedit and under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT locate the extensions you're having problems with (like .mp3, .mp4, .aac, .mpg etc.). Each of these keys should have at least two string values that are important here:

PerceivedType = Should be either video or audio, depending on the filetype.
Content Type = The files mime type. For instance, AVI files should have video/avi, MP3 should have audio/mpeg etc. Just google <file extension> + mime type and you should have no problems finding the correct ones.

Now this might not work ...

In HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT the "problem" seems to be the first key listed, "(Standard)", which Dirhael did not mention. The data in the key named (Standard) is "Miro.1" - but should of course be something different, as I don't have Miro on my machine anymore. Please take a look in your HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > .avi and tell me exactly what (Standard) says!  :tellme:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > .avi > (Standard) :

It is good to realize that Mike Lin is still working [Edit: or is he?]- I used a lot of his programs in the previous century. Do you use the Startup Control Panel, as well?

I'd never actually been the victim of a trojan before.  I felt so *dirty*.  Are feelings of self-loathing and humiliation in the wake of such an event normal?

It is common for victims by rape to feel dirty afterwards. I guess the priciples are the same if you are rap.. ehh infected with trojans or the likes. You have taken pride in having a clean machine, but this 'person' (animal) treated you and your pc like worthless pieces of trash.

Hmm... 1) There was no installation, so when I run the ShutdownNow.exe from Start, there is the usual security warning box asking if I want to execute this unknown program. It would be nice not to have to answer this question at every startup.

2) I guess the hotkey was taken, or something, because there is no action at all when I run the program or when I press the F12 hotkey - and there is no response to see in the task manager.

I don't know what to do with the ahk script, and of course >ShutdownNow: press hotkey< must be different from >Shutdown: db'click icon<, but you made Shutdown.exe work so nice and easy (and with an installer and all [Edit: No, "installer" cannot be the right word, but I don't have to understand anything to make it work])  so maybe you can make this one work just as smooth?

Thanks for trying, Ralf. Ctrl+Alt+Delete will of course eventual bring up Process Explorer, BUT I will then have to click "File" and wait forever for the what-do-you-call-it to roll down and give access to Shutdown, and THEN I will have to click Shutdown AND THEN wait forever and ever for some stupid box to appear and ask if I really want to shutdown. It is not posible when the CPU usage is 100% and everything is a mess. It is 100% imposible. So there I don't go.

Edit: I've found a brandnew emergency task manager: AntiFreeze, I will try out.

Alt+F4 brings up the shut down menu. Then ...

Thats one of the reasons I asked for the hotkey to be editable. Alt+F4 brute-kills the active window. I don't remember which program gave me this feature.

That's easy!

Well, jgpaiva, it was easy... to read!   ;D

What an earth are you talking about?  :-[  Where and how do I change settings for a F button? Or were you referring to Shutdown.exe ?? or..??? Forgive me for being such an ignorrant on IT.

BTW: Shouldn't it be 24 instead of 13 ? Its for emergency 100% CPU-usage situations.

My XP is getting more and more unstable, and The End is near, I am afraid. But meanwhile I would like to be able to still use it to some degree... Right now I am in the need of a hotkey version for the force / brutekill feature one can have in, say, jgpaiva's Shutdown, so I will be able to shutdown my computer even when the taskbar is unreachable and CPU usage is heavy. The hotkey must be editable.
