Activation/License/Language Help / Re: Licencia para Snooper
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2015, 06:58 AM »
For my program URL Snooper, get your key here: https://www.donation...r.com/Keys/index.php
(make sure you download the one labeled for URL Snooper).
Let us know if you have any trouble.

But for software not made by this site, you'll have to go to the company that made it!

Find And Run Robot / Re: Bug: Using space to select hotkeys doesn't save
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2015, 06:37 AM »
Confirmed the spacebar-checkbox-toggle bug effects most of the lists.
Fixed but not yet uploaded -- will be in next release. Until then make sure to use mouse click to toggle checkbox states instead of spacebar.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Bug: Under load searching sometimes fails
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2015, 06:11 AM »
this should definitely not happen.. search may slow down but load should not cause a premature stopping of search.
see if you can observe some more and figure out any more clues as to what might be happening..

cyberdoc may have just had some frustration getting Find and Run Robot to accept the free license key -- i know sometimes there can be some frustration with the captcha signing up to the forum, or with just the idea of having to download a free license key -- as i've said many times before my frustration threshold is very low and when trying to install some software i can understand getting mad at having to do any extra step.

cyberdoc, if you are still around, and got frustrated with the procedure and want to try FARR again, feel free to contact me for any assistance in getting it working or getting the license key put in -- sometimes the approach we use here leaves something to be desired, but all we are trying to do is get people to at least consider for a moment donating.  but regardless of that, i'm happy to assist in getting it working well for you, so let me/us know how we can assist.

or if you are just trying to advertise another tool.. well as Jibz says, you can find a list of alternative programs at the bottom of the Find and Run help file (you'll also see there that FARR has been in fairly constant development since 2002 -- many similar programs have come and gone since then!).

Hi GieltjE -- can you elaborate?\
Ah i bet i know what you mean -- you mean using space to toggle whether the hotkey is active or not in the hotkey list.
Thanks, I will fix!

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Some minor annoyances
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2015, 03:18 AM »
Ah wait... hahaha I just took a closer look at the error.

The read-only-ness it's talking about is LBC custom read only flag, set here:

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Some minor annoyances
« Last post by mouser on March 25, 2015, 03:14 AM »
If I had to guess, I'd guess that Windows is blocking the ability to write to that G:\ root directory -- and that I need to change that LBC message to say that the file could not be written, and may be read only or otherwise prevented from writing (disk full, protected location, etc.).

Do a Save As and put it someplace you have permission to save.

Let me know if that fixes it.

Several people have asked questions in this vein so let me give my spiel:
  • When you make a donation via paypal, amazon, etc, that action is what increases the thermometer.
  • Using donationcredits does not affect the thermometer.
  • You still get the normal email link when you donate that will let you activate the donationcredits into your forum account, where you can give them out to whoever you want.
  • Theoretically, if everyone activated their donation and used their donationcredits by giving them them out to random people who cashed them out, then the "fundraiser" would not actually do much for the site coffers and hosting costs.
  • However in practice, only a small minority goes through the process of converting their donation to donationcredits and then gives out their credits to someone they want to thank -- and because of that, most donations fall back by default into the site coffers.
  • Most importantly, my position is this -- if you are engaged enough in the site that you have someone you want to send your donationcredits to, to say thank you for their work on coding snacks, or helping people on the forum, etc., then sending your donation to them is just as valuable a way to support the site as any, and thus is a well directed fundraiser contribution.
  • So the bottom line: Whether you do nothing, or send your donation credits to the site account, or send them to anyone on the site that you appreciate, they are all equally valid ways of participating in the fundraiser.

Can't believe how long I have been here and how many words I must have typed during that time
we need a function that will export a pdf ebook for a user showing all posts that have participated in, with their contributions colored differently.

yep, first time i've heard of a problem hanging..
Next time it hangs can you observe with the statusbar shows in terms of number of packets parsed and queued.. I'd like to if perhaps its some huge number that get backed up or something.
I could maybe make you a debug version that would let us track down where its hanging.
6315
And have you detected any pattern to when it hangs?
How long after it's running does it hang?
What are the counts on the statusbar showing? How many results are in the grid?
(im just trying to get some clues as to what might be happening...)

Can anyone recommend a website where a bunch of people can "digitally" sign a card and add their sentiments, and then have a PHYSICAL card printed and mailed to someone?
I was thinking something like a get well card..  I suppose it could be done unofficially by just letting everyone send their statements to one person to print out and mail it in an envelope...
6320
I've not heard of it happening before.. it sounds like if you can't terminate the process, it's almost certainly hung somewhere in the network driver code of WinPcap..
Have you checked if you have the most recent WinPCap installed?
It also might have to do with your network adapter card -- you might check to see if you have the most recent drivers for that installed.

Find And Run Robot / Re: My Aliases are gone after update
« Last post by mouser on March 24, 2015, 05:55 AM »
glad to hear we've found the nature of the problem!
no need to apologize, it wasn't stupidity, its something people have encountered before.

however there is something important you need to check and make sure you got right.

you found the "c:\users\...\documents\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\MyCustom" folder -- and THAT is where your custom aliases should be when you are using the install version.

So, this is what I did to solve the problem:
* I grabbed the portable zip file
* unzipped it in my FARR directory and

this may be problematic and you probably don't want to do this.

by doing that you are telling FARR to try to save all of its files inside that directory -- which windows will not like!
if you are using Windows XP then it's ok and you don't have to worry -- but if you are using a new version of windows, it may behave ok but you might have problems with your custom files being saved later by microsoft windows in weird places (virtual shadow directories -- you don't want to know!).

So.. Here is the better solution:

Exit FARR.
Delete the ConfigDir.ini file in the C:\Program Filesx86\FindAndRunRobot\ directory
Now that you have done this, FARR will behave normally and will try to load your custom alias files from "c:\users\...\documents\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups\MyCustom" and try to load your settings from your c:\users\...\documents\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\" directory, which is what you want on windows vista,7,8, etc.
Then you may need to copy your old good MyCustom directory from your previous portable install into "c:\users\...\documents\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\AliasGroups"
Does that make sense?

To summarize, your goal is to have your custom settings in your "c:\users\...\documents\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot" directory.

To be really sure, you might want to start over by deleting your C:\Program Filesx86\FindAndRunRobot and then reinstall FARR from setup program, and then copy your custom files from the old portable install to "c:\users\...\documents\DonationCoder\FindAndRunRobot\"  that would help you be sure that it's loading the files from the right place.

what tomos said -- and the reason you are confused is because there WAS a new beta up until yesterday, at which point it became official -- and so became available via normal download url (and beta removed).
