I don't understand your problem, Carol. Everyone knows that you did it the right way: Your feed is on PonyFish's frontpage!

General Software Discussion / Noah is almost fantastic, but what is it?
« Last post by Curt on December 03, 2007, 09:46 AM »
I would like to tell you a lot about this new program I've downloaded today, but my English vocabulary is very tiny, especially when it comes to describing such a 'new' kind of program. Noah is a PIM and an email client and a email client's manager and a Internet browser and a bookmark manager and a RSS reader and a organizer and.. - so I don't really know what to call it - I mean, Noah is almost fantastic, but what is it?

Anyway, it would make a lot more sense to you if you would just watch the video tutorial, and download the gratis program yourself. However, I have to point out that it is also a 'new' kind of (harmless) adware! [Edit: The program is American - if you care.]

ovt.gif

I am very impressed with this program, and considering it merely is version 1.0 I believe Noah has great potential!

PFrank keeps updating and updating - maybe by now this is The Best?

However, turns out it had a critical bug:
2.03-2.09 - Critical.
There is a time bomb in these versions. PFrank will not start when the current month is December of any year.
-PFrank bug

- so if you have PFrank you really should update to the new 2.10   a.s.a.p!

Find your version (incl. Vista) at http://www3.telus.ne...nk/PFrankAlerts.html

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/pfrank.html incl XP (not for Vista)

I have no intention of trying it, so far. I am merely keeping a copy for some rainy day when I for some yet unknown reason decide to remove Quizo Tabbar!

Here is a link to a really fine instruction by TexHex on how to make Vista faster by using this strange methode. The article is far too long to show here, so you will have to follow the link.: http://texhex.blogsp...ant-hd-activity.html

Yes, I know what you mean, they always take one step forward and two steps backward. Aero is great, of course, -and in a few years from now it may be illegal to own a computer without DRM - but at the same time they both stink anyway. I don't think we are heading for better times. But in the meanwhile it may improve the quality of our daily life if we manage to look at the bright side of life... Or are you by accident wearing your little daughter's shoes today? Sorry, Carol, I didn't mean to offend or hurt you. But in Denmark it has been raining all day long - so I guess it must have been raining on the western side of the channel as well.

Edited for grammar.

... "Why do we have to have hardware fives years ahead of its time to run an Operating System?" ...

You are of course right, Carol. But then again: The dream about "today's" OS, now being Vista, was dreamed in the previous century - so MAYBE Bill Gates over-estimated the pace in which hardware would keep improving?

WHY CROSS THE RIVER TO GET WATER?

Sorry - I should of course have passed this info in my first post:

Hum.. Would you be looking for something like Shutdown?
It has a tray menu with a bunch of shutdown options, and if you double-click the tray icon, it shutsdown the computer.

.exe version
.ahk version
... Just run ShutdownNow.exe when your computer starts, and then when you press F12, the computer will auto-shutdown.
Careful, there is NO message, it just forces the shutdown.

ShutdownNow.ahk (0.25 KB - downloaded 12 times.)
 ShutdownNow.exe (196.7 KB - downloaded 13 times.)

I use them both.

To my poor understanding Vista is totally fantastic. Only problem is, it was made for tomorrow's computers. So if I try to install it on my old shitty snailhardware Vista will seem to fail. But it is not Vista failing, it is my hardware that is failing. Vista is at least 5 years or so ahead of its' time. And in five years from now, Vista wil have been improved so much that we all will say it is The Best, and the successor will stink...

@ Grorgy, I really like your sense of logic!   :D

"If I had a BIGGER hammer"

If I had a BIGGER hammer
I'd hammer BIGGER in the morning
I'd hammer BIGGER in the evening ... all over this land,
I'd hammer out BIGGER danger
I'd hammer out a BIGGER warning
I'd hammer out BIGGER love between all of my brothers and my sisters
All over this land.

If I had a BIGGER bell
I'd ring it in the BIGGER morning
I'd ring it in the BIGGER evening ... all over this BIGGER land,
I'd ring out BIGGER danger
I'd ring out a BIGGER warning
I'd ring out BIGGER love between all of my BIGGER brothers and my BIGGER sisters
All over this BIGGER land.

If I had a BIGGER song
I'd sing it in the BIGGER morning
I'd sing it in the BIGGER evening ... all over this BIGGER world,
I'd sing out BIGGER danger
I'd sing out a BIGGER warning
I'd sing out BIGGER love between all of my BIGGER brothers and my BIGGER sisters
All over this BIGGER land.

Well, I've got a BIGGER hammer
And I've got a BIGGER bell
And I've got a BIGGER song to sing ... all over this BIGGER land,
It's a BIGGER hammer of BIGGER justice
It's a BIGGER bell of BIGGER freedom
It's a BIGGER song about BIGGER love between all of my BIGGER brothers and my BIGGER sisters
All over this BIGGER land.

So it have been told already. Well, I never would have thought that I had to read a thread about Mac ads to hear about XP SP3.

Anyway: I just might try this - but I will sleep on it...

General Software Discussion / Are you testing XP SP3 RC ??
« Last post by Curt on November 27, 2007, 01:48 PM »
CyberNet Technology News have been telling about the availability of XP SP3 RC, Release Candidate, so I am of course curious if it will work on my localized (Danish) version. Are any of you guys testing the Release Candidate of XP SP3 ? Do I dare to give it a try on my Danish PC, by changing my registry keys ??

The way to get it:

Update XP to SP3 Release Candidate:

1) Copy and paste the following code into Notepad:

will modify the registry!
@echo off
reg delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\XPSP3 /f 2> NUL
reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\XPSP3 /v RCPreview /t REG_SZ /d 1c667073-b87f-4f52-a479-98c85711d869 /f
echo XPSP3 registry key has been set. Please check for updates in Windows Update.

2) Save the file as XPSP3.cmd (it’s important to include the extension).

3) Run the file that you saved in Step 2 by double-clicking on it.
Restart your computer and check for new Windows Updates.

4) Windows XP SP3 should be found, and it is a 337 MB download so give it some time to download and apply the updates.

When all is said and done your version of Windows XP should be:
Windows XP Build 2600.xpsp.071030-1537: Service Pack 3, v.3244

Enjoy the better performance and stability! You can hold off until next year if you want to download XP SP3 when it is officially released.

Oh, so Shutdown can have a dialog?  :o

- for what purpose? Is it to ask if I really want to shutdown?  :tellme:

 8)
I hit the appropiate hotkey, and XP will shutdown / reboot without any questions asked.

General Software Discussion / Re: Quizo QTTabbar
« Last post by Curt on November 26, 2007, 07:16 AM »
Yes, I have had that message many times as well. Not just when trying to install Quizo, but in general. When it comes to MY computer, I know the reason is that my pc is unstable. Why you recieve the same message, I cannot know. But one thing is, that I expect you clicked "open" when you started downloading the QT file - that is why it is hidden somewhere strange, I would say. Please download a new file and click "save" - and save it in %Programs%. Only then, you can db'click (unpack) the file.

General Software Discussion / Re: Quizo QTTabbar

If the QT folder is not present in the default %Programs% directory, the installation must have created another directory, starting from C:\ - otherwise there were no installation at all. Well, "installation" is of course not the right word; QT will merely unpack and register. Maybe you should first Search your XP for new files.

If you have a copy of one of those programs you can use to register DLL's, I would suggest that you start out by navigating to the %Programs% > QT Tabbar > Plugins > File Tools / FolderButton / Memo / ViewModeButton / Window Manager -folders, and try to (re-) register all of the DLLs.

Are you running XP?

---
Edit: the taskbar icon is to be right-clicked (not that it will do you any good until you persuade QT into working..):
