hi there mike,

yup, very interesting indeed... i didn't know this puzzle existed as a board game, tks for sharing.
i also once had a swf file similar to 'Card Trick' but i couldn't find it now.
btw, what's the trick behind 'Liar'? i don't get it... ;-)

hi there mike,

i had a swell time with your puzzle.
just want to let you know that there is a game similar to '1 Way', it's called 'Lucas's Puzzle'. ;-)
i've also attached the screen-shot...

hi skrommel,

have you heard of XXCOPY? it is a command-line tool which has a myriad of options & will take a lifetime to master. ;-)

it's still updated actively (latest version is 2.92.6), so any requests for additional features can be put to its author, Pixelab, Inc...
btw, there is also a java-based gui front called KopyMate.

I wrote James a while back and he immediately fixed this bug.... But you can be assured it doesn't overwrite your image files anymore when mirroring them.

well, that's great... kudos to James for his instant response  ;-)

surely the timestamp was due to overwriting the file, so if its not overwriting then it shouldnt be changing timestamp.

yes, that's true, mouser. that's how i noticed that the app was overwriting the original files... a big no-no for me. ;-)

hi there Nighted & clif_notes,

i was using Wallpaper Master earlier this year & i quite happy with it except for a slight flaw.

when you tried the "mirror image" option, it overwrites the existing files & changes the time-stamp. imo, this is detrimental to digital photo images because the time-stamp is important for sorting & renaming purposes. so i wrote to the author regarding it and he promised to fix it. but since then i've lost track of the app's progress, until now... so i was wondering if someone could verify whether this bug has been fixed.

btw, what about a wallpaper manager shoot-out? i have some potentially good candidates... ;-)

hi there,

i use Servant Salamander 1.52 for file management but for heavy-duty copying/moving, my personal favourite is: Copy Handler 1.28.

among its' options are:
Show 'Copy'/'Move' command in drag&drop menu
Show 'Copy to'/'Move to' command in context menu
Set attributes of destination files
Set date/time of destionation files
Protect read-only files
Don't delete files before copying finishes (moving)
Buffer size for copying from CD-ROM
Buffer size for copying over a network
Sound on error
Sound on copying finished

& many others...

hi there mouser,

so i guess another update is due very soon... ;-)
btw, why not change F&RR's tooltip in the system-tray to include the version number?

or is that too much typing just to get options?

when i come to think of it, this way is much better since alias grouping is F&RR's strong point... ;-)
of course it's not too much typing since one could change the alias' name to something even shorter...

another option i have i mind is pressing & holding down Control key or any other key for more than 0.5 seconds to bring up the preferences dialog...

hi there mouser,

since F&RR is a keyboard-driven tool, why not have keyboard shotcuts to access the preferences & "configure toolbar" & etc.?

btw, how about an option to clear "Launch History"?

thanks in advance...

good to know the richedit error bug is killed!

yup, we can break out the champagne on this one! ;-)
btw, if it's not too technical, may i know what's the different way of setting of the text.
just in case, if i ran into another program that has the same bug then i can notify the author...

and then i'm going to make a new demo movie of F&R showing most of this stuff in a useful way hopefully.

btw, what software do you use make a recording of your desktop? i tried CapturePad but as you may have seen by the attachment i sent you, the results were not that good...

so i'll just send the swf file for reference sake... fyi, the fonts' setting is at 96dpi.

you da man! ;-)
the about box is displayed & the sizing bug is also nowhere to be seen (yet)...

http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/9695/frok3ds.png

this is not a setup program! it is a replacement .exe in a zip file, so you need to copy this over on top of your existing Find and Run Robot directory and restart F&R.

If you would prefer i make setup programs as usual let me know.
btw, why not distribute all releases this way since it'll make zip file smaller... just a thought...

hi there mouser,

i have a 4.8mb (712kb compressed with rar) swf file that i recorded my desktop to show the effect...
how do i send it to you?

in the recording, you can see that upon launch F&RR comes with scrollbars.
to which i resize to make it disappear then i make F&RR lose focus...
when i call it again the scrollbars are there again...

and see if it also causes an error for you?
well, the test app works fine...

http://img238.imageshack.us/img238/2355/richedittestapp4au.png

actually you know i use a richedit control just because i thought i might allow some formatting text (bold, etc.) but since i don't, i could just change to a control that doesnt use richedit at all and that would solve the problem.  maybe i'll just do that...

that's ok, since the formatting makes the about box look much nicer... but why no one else have this problem?
i made a search inside my system folder & found these files:
  • riched20.dll --> v5.40.11.2210
  • riched32.dll --> v5.1.2600.0
  • richtx32.ocx --> v6.1.97.82

i'm no expert but does these version numbers match with the one in your pc?

we don't live with such problems - we fix them!
don't worry we will get it fixed, as long as you are still willing to test fix attempts.

man, that's the spirit!
anyway as they say, if you insist, i can't resist. keep them test versions coming.. ;-)

hi there,

just noticed this topic, i want to mention that once i had this problem where suddenly my pc slowed down to a crawl. and when i started process explorer, it reported that F&RR was using up the CPU cycle (if that is the term) so i killed F&RR. when i ran F&RR once again, everything was normal...

hi there mouser,

sorry, "real life" kept me back... ;-)
ok, to answer your questions...

lanux regarding the about box problem, could you try going to your find and run robot directory and moving the file DonationCoder_findrunrobot_Key.dat out of that directory and restarting F&R and then go to about box and see if you get the error?
-mouser

the error still recurs, as you can see from the screen-shot...

http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/4897/frerror25ul.png

and with regard to F&R window size - does autoshrink mode properly set the window size when showing results normally - and it's only when you close and re-open that has those bad scrollbars? and if you resize the window by just one pixel taller or wider does everything fit and scrollbars go away?

yes, only when i close & re-open does the scrollbars appear & yes, if i resize then the scrollbars disappear.

and can you try latest version and see if the window size problem is still there with this version

man, that was fast! but sorry mouser, the sizing problem is still persistent. anyway it's okay, it's a minor annoyance that i can live with... ;-)

ah, maybe you want to set like a minimum size of the window - so that it will grow bigger if more results come in but never get smaller than some amount?

yup, that's exactly what i have in mind... ;-)

Find And Run Robot / Window sizing bug (scrollbars)
« Last post by lanux128 on October 04, 2005, 12:49 AM »
hi there mouser,

yup, i have already pasted the licence key as early as version 1.07.02b if i'm not mistaken...

i have "autoshrink" checked, that's why i want F&RR to retain the original size. i know i can uncheck the "autoshrink" but then i'll lose cool feature of the window growing as the results come pouring in... ;-)

basically, what i am looking for is "sticky window" feature, this is how it works:
first position/size the window just the way you like it.
then go into the setting & save that window position/size.
now F&RR always start up in the saved position.

this means you can maximize/resize F&RR (to see the search results better) and then send it to the tray.
and next time F&RR is needed, it will start at the pre-defined position/size. quite, nifty eh? ;-)

lanux

ps. try setting a skin in display options and see if it fixes.

sorry mouser, that doesn't fix it...
to be honest, i had some apprehensions earlier regarding speed/performance but skinning is just cool... ;-)

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/5485/size3skin3nh.png

about the other suggestion, why not make F&RR just detect the path & run a particular app...
e.g. i could just type "C:\mirc\mirc.exe[/i]" then mirc gets executed...

ok, that's about it...

lanux
