General Software Discussion / Re: Anyone testing Daminion Media Manager ?
« Last post by tomos on March 22, 2012, 04:22 PM »
Btw, is Daminion non-destructive, as in, can I safely let it catalog my image folder without it writing EXIF data to all images or something sinister like that? ;D

You can do it via Sync button (on the toolbar) > "Turn Off Auto-Syncing Metadata".

not sure of the implications of this - in particular for photos that have not been catalogued at all ? but also in general - what exactly happens with this option turned on?
... so I turned it off for the moment.

On another note:
I know that preferences have not been implemented, but it would be nice to be able to choose where the catalogue folder is located. For me, I think it would be logical to have it on the same drive as the photos.
[edit] I see if I had read the help file, I would have known to import via the Startup Wizard (menu/Help) where I would have gotten an option to say where the catalogue files would be stored (defaults to My Documents). I imported by clicking on a button bottom left of window (above the Daminion "Tray") but dont think I got the option [edit]

Floppy disk music :)

What is Love on eight floppy drives

there was something similar posted on dc a couple of years ago, using old printers and harddrives - was it a version of something by Coldplay (not according to dc search), anyone remember?

Here's my 2012 setup (there's a large Wacom Cintiq screen and machine/s somewhere else in the room under a load of crap). No doubt, this will seem quite inappropriate in another six years time; I suspect we'll all have giant fold out tablet displays running Micrsoft Metro XL.
 (see attachment in previous post)

Looks very nice :)
What's all the gradated colour lists on the left screen - if that's not a personal question!! - I mean what's making the lists :-[

but Ctrl+Click has no response

this can happen if you are trying to capture from an evil application that is intercepting keys it shouldn't be.
you could also try right hand ctrl key alone (no mouser click).

why am I not suprised at that from adobe...

Right-Ctrl doesn't work either.
A simple right click in the info part of the red frame works to show the menu - or clicking the icon, as suggested.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.
Ctrl+Shift+PrtScr has no effect when Adobe Reader is active window.
The SC tray icon goes red.
There was no red frame
BUT
now, after a reboot, there is a red frame, but Ctrl+Click has no response.

If I "manually" (via Right-click) start screenshot, "Test Window" works okay.
I get same message as in post #13 above, this time changing the two vertical overlaps gets it to show correct number of pages

Still working fine here with Firefox 11.

My posts above were with version 3.
I just checked for updates and got 3.03.01, which did a perfect shot of this page, using "Test window" recommendations

doesnt work though on the PDF linked above (I have Adobe Reader installed 10.1.2) - neither within Firefox, nor if I save the file and open it. Doesnt appear to work with Adobe Reader at all (here).

Living Room / Re: Which decade was the most fun for you personally?
« Last post by tomos on March 20, 2012, 10:25 AM »
With me, each decade has it's ups and downs... thankfully more ups and downs.  But, it's been getting better and better.  So, no matter how relative things may be, my best times have always been the current times. :)

I'd say something like that for me too.
The 80's were memorable for me, especially the early 80's cause that's when I was in college and without responsibilities. It was kind-of fun being wild, but I'd choose more awareness and less baggage any day over those times...

Thanks, I let them know.

I kind of thought it would be a false alarm - a site dedicated to open source software....
It's a false positive.

I think I'll report that to
http://forums.malwar...dex.php?showforum=42, but in the
long run I'd rather not bother getting in touch with every anti-virus
software vendor out there

Thanks for reporting.

I've tried this one...looks REALLY similar to acdsee pro.  What does it do that makes it unique or special?  I couldn't really tell.

look here:

and probably best to scan through these posts in the same thread (Why is it so hard to find a decent image organizer?)

which link is that?

I was going to post in another thread, but seeing as this would have been veering even more off-topic than the thread already was, and the thread is about threads veering off-topic, I thought  I'd better start a new one ;-)

I do like the idea of being able to give a post an "up" vote.
A down vote option only encourages colliseum type behaviour (you know, looking for blood etc.), as people have said already. But I often miss the option to give a very casual +1 to a post - good reccomendation, nice retort, whatever.

I wont lose any sleep about this one, and am not even sure it's a good idea, but I still miss it - often enough too.

Shipping is required to USA ($8), even though you can use the key on the trial version.

thanks Nigel,
do you or anyone know if shipping is required elsewhere as well?
I have to give all my details before I can find out - I prefer to find out elsewhere.

edit/ I see they do have a shipping details link on Carol's link [UK/affiliate] from the other thread:

UK   FREE
Europe      £4
Rest of the World   £6

I updated to FF11, and get the same results so far in any webpage or PDF file tried:

no response to a Control+Click within the red frame.

If I right-click the red frame/title and select "Capture selection now", I get the dialogue where I can choose scrolling capture.
Testing the window, so far, I always get this message:

Application being captured: firefox.exe (MozillaWindowClass)

ATTENTION: A number of methods were attempted to scroll the contents of the target window, but nothing worked.

Sometimes when this happens it simply means you have to first click inside the actual content area of the window to be captured.

You could try clicking inside the target window where the content is, and then click the "Re-test" button; or choose manual scroll method below.

Alternatively, if you selected a full application window, click the "Back" button and re-select a more specific scrollable content area.

clicking &/or scrolling within the window doesnt help.
I didnt take it any further.

so,
there does seem to be a bug in connection with FF 11
