here's another: RtvReco

RtvReco is designed to automate many aspects of Windows, by pressing buttons in annoying dialog boxes, choosing menu items, maximising, and minimising windows for you.

Do you really want to put all your eggs in the Google basket?

well, to set the record straight... i use GMail in conjunction with Thunderbird but as m_s said if i'm using my browser, it's more likely that i'll use GMail rather than launching Thunderbird... ;-)

Unfinished Requests / Re: IDEA: Text Editor just for text (stay with me)
« Last post by lanux128 on March 12, 2006, 09:35 PM »
sorry to revive an old thread...

just to add my own favourite text-editors combo: Metapad & Notetab. I use metapad as a replacement for notepad but when i need heavy-duty editing tools, I bring out notetab. In fact, metapad has an in-built launcher to view the current document in another editor/browser/word-processor, etc... There is also a version of metapad that can view (not edit) a RTF file, very handy for a quick peek.

As for Notetab, basically it has tabbed interface, adequate text manipulation tools, it's own text macros and many others as explained on the web-site. I first downloaded it back in 1997 and have been stuck with it ever since... ;-)

here the links...

instead of finding a way to make desktop icons unmoveable, why don't you just hide them temporarily? then, your kid can use the start menu or quick-launch or an app-launcher like LaunchBar Commander... ;-)

General Software Discussion / Re: free anything to pdf printer
« Last post by lanux128 on March 12, 2006, 07:53 PM »
another useful pdf tool, it's doesn't print though... ;-)

If PDF is electronic paper, then pdftk is an electronic staple-remover, hole-punch, binder, secret-decoder-ring, and X-Ray-glasses. Pdftk is a command-line tool for doing everyday things with PDF documents. Keep one in the top drawer of your desktop and use it to:

    * Merge PDF Documents
    * Split PDF Pages into a New Document
    * Decrypt Input as Necessary (Password Required)
    * Encrypt Output as Desired
    * Fill PDF Forms with FDF Data and/or Flatten Forms
    * Apply a Background Watermark
    * Report on PDF Metrics such as Metadata, Bookmarks, and Page Labels
    * Update PDF Metadata
    * Attach Files to PDF Pages or the PDF Document
    * Unpack PDF Attachments
    * Burst a PDF Document into Single Pages
    * Uncompress and Re-Compress Page Streams
    * Repair Corrupted PDF (Where Possible)

Pdftk allows you to manipulate PDF easily and freely. It does not require Acrobat, and it runs on Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD and Solaris.

Pdftk is free software (GPL).

« Last post by lanux128 on March 09, 2006, 07:52 PM »
in addition to that, i would like to request that the default action could be "Copy target path to clipboard" instead of opening the folders... this would come in handy when i'm fumbling with the open/save dialogs then i could call up f+r then get the exact path i need...

when you have some alpha version of your programs (FARR or other) do you write a message on the corresponding forum or is there an "alpha" forum where you announce such news?

yes, i agree with amadawn, sometimes i anxious to know whether i'm using the latest alpha/beta version so that i don't post a bug report from using a previous version. what about a notification system in regards to software announcements?

Lanun128, Thanks for pointing me to COA2, for me to try it out I have to subscribe to a one-off fee of $5. I am not willing to do this, as I would prefer to try out an evaluation copy to ensure it is what I want.

maybe dc can do a write-up/review on this since most of us attached to our PCs... what about it, mouser? i'm sure that if dc approaches the authors for a review copy, they'll be happy to oblige...

Find And Run Robot / Re: Focus Problem
« Last post by lanux128 on March 06, 2006, 09:41 PM »
i've added ctrl+space as a way to bring it up now, as people suggested, let's see if that solves it - at least we would know if its's something specific to alt, which i suspect (it may be that alt+space while in another application can trigger the current application window menu).

actually, alt+space is a windows hot-key to bring up the system-menu... i was having the same problems until i unchecked "Alt+Space to launch". you can refer to more windows keyboard shortcuts here.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: testers post your first impressions here
« Last post by lanux128 on March 01, 2006, 07:22 PM »
hi there,

still adding programs... just noticed that LCB doesn't accept program icons from 16-bit files. any plans to modify this?
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5281/lcbonly32biticons3za.png

also, what about an option to auto-unselect from view any apps that are not available, e.g. those running from removable/network drives...

LaunchBar Commander / Re: testers post your first impressions here
« Last post by lanux128 on February 28, 2006, 10:37 PM »
hi there,

i'm a long-time user of Arcanewood's Enchanted Toolbar but however your impressive screen-shots persuaded me into trying out LBC... After 20mins of adding apps to the launch-bar, I must say that "Preferences" window could use a taskbar button as the preferences window disappears once it loses focus especially if the main-window (aka the docking window) is set to "Not on Top" and the icon is removed form the systray as well... Now Alt-tab is only way to bring the Preferences window to the foreground...

i'll make further progress reports as i go on... ;-)

best regards,
lanux
