General Software Discussion / Re: Foxit Reader (fast pdf reader alternative)
« Last post by lanux128 on April 04, 2006, 01:21 AM »
Thanks.  I downloaded the extension, restarted Firefox, went to the extension options and told it to use Foxit to open PDF's.  Adobe still opens them.  I may have to uninstall Adobe after all.

i think you ought to uninstall Adobe after all... man, these guys are fast becoming the MSIE of online documents... one can't even make a simple switch of pdf readers.

Site/Forum Features / Unsubscribing a topic...
« Last post by lanux128 on April 04, 2006, 01:08 AM »
is there a simpler way to unsubscribe a topic while being on the forums' pages, instead from the email that we receive?
i have something like this in mind, as used in mozillazine forums... you can also "watch" topics without replying to it.

P.S. found it...  :-[. now how do i delete this redundant post..?

I'm afraid that didn't work.  Maybe I need an exorcist to get rid of this thing...

what browser do you use? if you're using Firefox, try this extension: PDF Download

btw, if you don't need Adobe Reader then try uninstalling it and see if that solves your problem...

I guess I didn't explain my problem very clearly.  I have checked the "Make Foxit the default" option in the Foxit help menu, but Adobe is still coming up when I try to open PDF files.  What could I have done wrong?

try to uncheck this option in Adobe: "Display PDF in Browser". then your browser will prompt you to open or d/l the pdf, you can choose 'Open' to view the file.

i'm glad that AHK solves your problem... If you hadn't already done so, you can go over to AHK's forum for more ready-made scripts plus info on using AHK...

if you use winamp, then you can always search at its website for plugins...
e.g. http://www.winamp.com/plugins/browse.php?search=yes&filter=C&query=Album+Cover+Finder

i'd just plug 'em in if i were you, i'm sure you'd have it all working within a few minutes.

tks, nudone for the info. but i'd like ask an additional question, if i plug-in two video cards - one into agp the other, pci - which will be Window's main card? this is what bothering me because the other card (pci) is quite low-end...

I usually see a notice on alt.comp.freeware or fileforum.betanews.com

or you can also check at filehippo.com

btw, i observed something about the downloads at foxit's homepage. there are two versions of the download:

one is the no-install version which isn't updated regularly while the other is an installer version which is updated frequently as seen on filehippo's foxit page.

Any respectable MP3 tag program should be able to do both things you want. I can say for sure that The Godfather can.

agreed. my favourite -> Mp3 Tag Tools

some of the features:
  • Tag mp3s even while playing them
  • Mass ID3 tagging
  • Write ID3 tags from Filenames using Custom Filename Format
  • Rename Filenames From ID3 tags using Custom Filename or Directory Format
  • Remove All ID3v1.1 or ID3v2.x tags
  • Remove All Non-ID3 tags
  • Create ID3 tags using Directory Formats
  • Create Directories and organize mp3s from ID3 tag info
  • Selectively Copy or Synchronize ID3v1.1 & ID3v2.x tags

slightly outdated but worth a try...

you can try either AllChars or AutoHotkey. both works for me...

AllChars provides a quick, easy-to-remember way of creating accents like é Ü ç î æ and special characters like ƒ ² ‰ © £ ± ß ° 1/2 ¿ « » ™ „ in most Windows programs.

General Software Discussion / Re: SuperFast Shutdown
« Last post by lanux128 on March 29, 2006, 09:24 PM »
From that warning, it makes me think it's about the same thing as unplugging your computer--or hitting the powerbutton when powerbuttons were power cutoff rather than windows>shutdown

i thought of that too but when i switch on the pc there is no scandisk/chkdsk prompt. maybe the program tells the registry that it's being shutdown normally then pulls the plug... ;)
if only winXP doesn't take ages to shutdown, i wouldn't be wondering about these kind of apps.

General Software Discussion / SuperFast Shutdown
« Last post by lanux128 on March 29, 2006, 09:01 PM »
Does anyone use this program: SuperFast Shutdown?

Have you ever wished there was a faster way to shutdown your Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer system? I mean instantly shut it down! Now you can! Just install Super Fast Shutdown and click on one of the desktop icons created to reboot or shutdown instantly.

Warning: Superfast Shutdown is extremely powerful! Use at your own risk! Although it has never been reported, regular usage could possibly cause disk corruption.
-web-site

With this app, Windows does shutdown immediately but i'm curious as how it achieves this. From the disk corruption warning, i assume that it bypasses cache writes to the hard-drive but i'd would like to know from others as well. Any ideas on this?

that's strange, jgpaiva because i can access it without any problems, as you can see below. anyway, it's a good thing that we have google cache...

yes, i'm having the same problems as f0dder but with each updates it is becoming more robust eventhough now & then it chokes on pdf files with embedded quicktime movies but credit to the author, he's constantly upgrading the program despite having other commercial programs on his hands...

in short, worth a shot...

You didn't answered if you need the help o f the "wizards" ?

actually, i don't need wizards that much... but i'll have a look at ZonerDraw and let you know...
6098
I use CorelDraw! for such projects. Even the version 7 (5-10€ @eBay) is good enought and you get an good graphic editor too (PhotoPaint).

A freeware non-wizard tool is e.g. OpenOffices Draw.

"Print Shop Deluxe" or such i see often on magazin -cd's for 5-9€

I didn't had a look at CorelDraw! previously because Corel looks like an overkill. Basically what i want to do is just create flyers, banners and some greeting cards... OpenOffice's Draw comes in a suite so that is certainly not in the light-weight category. ;)

maybe i'll just have wade thru' bargain-bins to find a cheaper, less than new version of PSD...

tks anyway, AbteriX
