Seems reasonable enough -- no reason it shouldn't be remembered between restarts.
As for switching easily.. let me consider.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: Other Paste Methods - like imitate typing
« Last post by mouser on May 03, 2015, 12:08 PM »
yes there is!
you can change it globally, by my strong recommendation is leave normal pasting as is, and when you are in a place where you need to paste as if typing (which happens in some fields where you cant use ctrl+v) to paste, do this:
Bring up the quick paste menu (Ctrl+Alt+Q by default), then instead of clicking on the clip to paste, right-click on it or shift click on it.
This will bring up an additional menu of actions on the selected clip:

From there you can choose "Past clip Using Key Strokes".

I will fix this weekend.
Many people do not like this launched of pdf viewer behavior; i will change it so that when you click a pdf file, it will simply show you a statusbar message reminding you that you can double click the file to open it in your default pdf viewer.

We've done this before, and after completion of the fundraiser it seems like an appropriate time to do so again.

If you are a long-term/active donationcoder forum member, and would like to give out some donationcredits to people on the site you think deserve some recognition, but have no donationcredits in your account, post a reply here or message me and i'll send you some to disperse as you see fit.

Just turn off auto update checking, it's the second checkbox on the topmost Options tab.

The DonationCoder 2015 10th Anniversary Fundraiser is Now Officially Over!

My heart is just overflowing with gratitude and pride at the incredible response from everyone -- it's been amazing and humbling and reinvigorating.

The donations are enough to pay for several years of hosting costs, so we're going to be here, doing our thing, ad free, for the foreseeable future.  And I could not be happier about that.

 * Total donations during the fundraiser: $15,649 (the most we've ever raised in a fundraiser).
 * Total number of donors: 927 (the most donors we've ever had in a fundraiser).

Even if you didn't donate, I want to thank all of you who have expressed encouragement and support for the site -- it makes all the difference.

And now we return the site to it's normal look (without the fundraiser banner), for now...

But be warned, the success of the fundraiser means that we're finally going to migrate to a proper Content Management System and try to improve areas of the site. Stay tuned!

It seems to me that the options and aliases are getting saved in the %mydocuments%\DonationsCoder\FindAndRunRobot folder, but the plugins are saved in the c:\program files.. folder

Thanks, let me try to track that down -- it does indeed sound like that's what's happening, though it shouldn't.
However, it may be that older plugins are not using the right directory.

The one thing that seems odd is that the disabling of a plugin, if my memory serves me, is stored in the normal settings file of FARR -- so *that* value at least, i would think would be saved properly.

Ok, here we go.. we are in the final 24 hours of the fundraiser.

Coolant flush complete.. Pretty time consuming because i was pretty paranoid about bringing coolant up to temperature and then letting it cool before draining, over and over.  I did a very thorough flush because i was changing coolant types and i had no idea if it had ever been done over the course of 7 years of prior owner.  In future I'll just do a simple drain and replace every year or two.

Very fun.  I'll be posting a bunch of car maintenance gadgets I have used in the gadget thread in the upcoming days.

Are you using portable farr or the installer version? Do you customize your ConfigDir.ini file?
It sounds like maybe it's trying to save settings someplace it doesn't have permission.. If you change other options are they saved on a program exit and restart?

I still have the issue where aliases that run things with parameters doesn't work in Win8.1

is it all apps or just web browser apps?

New official release:

Version 2.223.01 - Apr 28, 2015
  • [Feature] A new "Quick Search Words" tab in options allows you to specify quick search word replacements; here you can quickly specify words that have alternate meanings when typed into the search box.  Start each line with a search word, followed by = and then the replacement text.  For example, if you would like to be able to type "ff" to search for "firefox" you can specify that here as "ff = firefox".  This just makes it much easier to do certain simple things without using aliases.  Note that replacements will only be made on word boundaries ("ff" will not match "eff").
  • [Feature] On History Options you can now choose to have FARR automatically add all applications that you launch outside of FARR (that have foreground windows), automatically added to FARR launch history; this makes them visible in main window on display, and makes them faster to find.
  • [Feature] New option to require search words to match on left hand boundaries of words (whether contiguous enabled or not) -- can be useful in reducing spurious matches.
  • [Feature] Added field where you can test how FARR will resolve a path with environment or other special % replacements, on Tweaks and Debugging tab.
  • [Change] If only one result is being shown in directory browsing mode, FARR won't autoswitch into small report display mode; this is nicer to look at when using an absolute path to a file and makes clearer when there is a unique result in directory browsing mode, and makes it more convenient to use the Quick Search Words to specify an explicit file path.
  • [Bugfix] Non-contiguous scoring had a bug which might allow some results to list which should not (though it would give them a very low score).
  • [Bugfix] Using spacebar to toggle checkboxes in the hotkey, searchfolder, pattern lists was not saving changes.
  • [Bugfix] Launched *folders* were no longer opening on Windows XP.
  • [Bugfix] Using Ctrl+# or Ctrl+Enter to launch apps should keep FARR window open AND focused, regardless of FARR window behavior configured on Window options tab.
  • [Bugfix] Some users on Windows 8 were not seeing large icons in results.
