mouser:
whenever i right-click on SC's tray icon to "disable all hotkeys", i don't see any kind of visual indicator to tell that the hotkeys are disabled. i wonder if you add some parameters to make it show notifications whenever there's a toggle of hotkeys' status...

i had this app on my hard-disk for some time, quite useful for a one-off changing of tray icons' position. i can't remember the source, so if anyone knows feel free to add the web-site's address. i'm also attaching the zip file.

i'd like to add another calculator app to the equation. ;)
Microsoft Calculator Plus

Calculator Plus offers conversions between different measurement units for area, temperature, volume and more. It also includes all the mathematical functions offered in Microsoft Calculator.
it can also handle currency conversion for which you'd need online connection plus some rudimentary skin-support  and here is the FAQ·

General Software Discussion / Re: IE 7.0 Beta 2: Any takers?
« Last post by lanux128 on April 17, 2006, 08:56 PM »
Well it seems to me that this tweak is the problem not IE7. As I said above I downloaded and installed the beta and have been running it since March. With absolutely no problem.
Tabs work great, it loads quickly, I got the google search bar installed and it runs with no problems.
It has been stable and working great on my WinXP SP2.

yes, beta-testing was not the problem. got carried away a bit. ;)

@Carol: maybe a test environment like Sandboxie would saved us all this trouble. anyway, going to check up on VMWare.

oh shoot, what have i done! i'm sorry all this happened :o
i'm having intermittent problems like kimmchii but nothing major.

it seems like i've jumped the gun, it looked like a great idea at that time.
my profound apologies to Carol, Darwin, kimmchii and anyone else who had tried the above and had their systems screwed-up. Down with beta-testing IE7

Update: on the original website, there are other users who followed this tip and now are having problems... sorry everyone...

Firefox has recently closed an online video competition designed to promote the product. The competition involves creating a short video showing off the benefits of Firefox over other browsers. The Mozilla team is believed to be interested in using some of videos for TV spots.

there is a thread here with some quite useful shell extensions...

btw, DC's long-awaited (*hint* *hint*, mouser) ContextMenu Commander thread, which also lists a variety of context-menu enhancers.

nice find,  but it rather makes me feel drunk looking at this...  :-\, and it takes way too long.
But it goes into the right direction.

a'ah, but that is the magic of AHK... you can modify it to suit your preferences. it would need some minor tinkering to get the windows moving the way you wanted but hang in there.

Developer's Corner / Re: Can a program be reverse-engineered?
« Last post by lanux128 on April 13, 2006, 04:22 AM »
AFAIK unless you know assembly language there's not much that can be done because decompilers spit out the source in machine language. there are some exceptions like compiled AHK scripts but that's about it.

there is a program called ResHacker that allows you to alter resources such as icons & bitmaps for some apps.
which abandoned program have you in mind, zridling? :tellme:

General Software Discussion / Re: Microsoft Office Alternative
« Last post by lanux128 on April 13, 2006, 01:55 AM »
yes, i used to think of cutting down the Office-bloat too. then after trying-out a few alternatives, i sort of gave-up. this is mainly due to documents' incompatibility between different versions of Office and the proprietary format used by Microsoft, making it impossible for developers of these Office-alternative programs to keep up with Microsoft. nowadays, i would only suggest these alternative suites to only those with budget constraints...

in any case, these individual programs deserve a mention.
Atlantis -  a word processor with extensive support for MS Word files.
Spread32 - a fairly competent MS Excel clone.
Powerbullet - for creating presentations in the Flash™ format.

6047
a'ah, i see... ok then use the full path to runDll32.exe, which should be in the system32 folder...

C:\Windows\System32\RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL mmsys.cpl,,2
- or -

%windir%\System32\RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL mmsys.cpl,,2

hmm.. maybe, i'll post a new topic containing all these handy short-cuts. :-\
now, if only i could find them...

since i also don't need a HDD monitor all the time, whenever i'm cleaning up my hard-drive i find Spacemonger very useful...

i'm glad to see that things picked up while i was not around. amazingly, it was solved in just 4hrs 45mins... ;)
i think now is a good time to move this topic to "Finished Programs" on Coding Snacks.

...but when I right-click the desktop and choose NEW SHORTCUT the window that appears asks me for the file's location to which I want to create a shortcut. I can't just drop the code in that line :/

microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, have disabled the right-click menu in the "New Shortcut" dialog but you can press Control-V to paste the command. since you have already have a working script, this is just some additional info for the future...
6050
i believe that once this topic is picked by one of our AHK pros, you'll have a decent app in your hands. ;)

in the meantime, you can create a shortcut as you normally do... right-click on desktop, choose New>Shortcut. then paste the command, type an appropriate name then drag the newly-created shortcut to the quicklaunch bar.
