Living Room / [Request] Review my new site
« Last post by sri on November 30, 2006, 11:09 AM »
Hi all,

I started a new site where I undertake installation of PHP/MySQL scripts for free. Please review for content and design (it's very minimal and that's the way I like it):

http://www.scriptinstall4free.com/

Thanks. :-[

Yes. Please do. Being able to specify the max individual .zip file size is useful. Also, if you can code it such a way that there is a provision to enter the name used for the generated zip files.

Like if I enter "skwire", it should output "skwire-1.zip", "skwire-2.zip" etc.

Another way it could be extended is by giving the user an option of output being .zip or .rar.
603
Excellent! It is working.

Thanks a ton skwire. I'll blog about your tiny program and give the link here.
604
Yes. It is in the same folder as sri-zip.exe. Kindly download this screencast and launch skwire.html:

searched for zip-1.zip...nothing  :-\
607
skwire: I tried the script. It seemed to be working because I could see some temporary folder/file changing its size while the operation was going on. After some time I got a pop up that it's done. But the 'zips' folder is empty.

Are the new .zip files placed some where else? What will their names be? (so I can do a search)
608
Anyone know a way to compress about 9000 files into multiple .zip files of 8 MB each?

The individual zip files have to be independent of each other, meaning: each of them should be extractable to get the files inside w/o the necessity of other .zip files.

Thanks for help/ideas.

Living Room / incircles.com - Chat with your site/blog visitors
« Last post by sri on November 24, 2006, 10:06 AM »
If you have a web site or a blog, there are quite a few web services using which you can chat with your site visitors. incircles.com is a new on in that genre.

Just enter your e-mail address, the web page URL and copy paste the code that's generated in your web site to have the chat box appear.

Screenshot:

incircles.jpg

It has PM system, cross site nick retention in a browser (meaning, if you change your nick to say 'x' while using Firefox on a blog, if you visit another site having incircles chat box, your nick will automatically be set to 'x'), and is skinnable.

http://incircular.blogspot.com/ is their blog.

It's not free for ever. Is it?

Living Room / Re: Tagging for text
« Last post by sri on October 12, 2006, 02:55 AM »
allen, The note saving feature of existing web services like del.icio.us limit the number of characters in the text. Also there might be circumstances where I want to tag some text not associated w/ any URL...then such web services are not ideal.

The best web based solution is perhaps Gmail by using tags and drafts. Even this solution is limited because I can't simply type out the comma/space separated tags for a piece of text in Gmail.

After going through one of the recent reviews here on note taking software, I tried Milenix MyInfo and like its note taking and more importantly, the tagging and search by tags feature so far. I think I found I wanted.

Living Room / Tagging for text
« Last post by sri on October 09, 2006, 11:19 AM »
Is there any way to tag a paragraph or two of text either through a web site or a program?

i.e., s'thing like what del.icio.us does for URLs.

May be a word toolbar wherein I can type keywords or tags and it will retrieve the paras that I tagged.

I'm aware of WinTabber and when I tried it long time back (it was mentioned in downloadsquad), I think I felt it somehow not quite ready for the job. I will give it a try again.

rkrause: Zotero sounds like the excellent ScrapBook extension. Did you get a chance to use it and see which is better?

Jinzora, if am not mistaken is unlike any of these other programs you mentioned. It's a PHP script to be installed on a web server.

It is similar to http://www.turnstyle.com/andromeda/ and http://www.pancake.org/zina/index.html.

Living Room / Chat in any IRC channel from work (well, or from home or anywhere)

http://www.ircatwork.com

This is not a Java applet and is completely server side (a CGI script).

To join our donationcoder IRC channel, for example:

Nickname: sri_atwork
Server: irc.easynews.com
Channel: #donationcoder

and press Login.

Tested from behind a corporate proxy and works

lanux, A43 looks good. Do you know if it's possible to have it such that when a .txt file is selected, it is automatically shown in the 'Text editor' as opposed to having to drag and drop it there?

Also, the program's homepage says that dual panes are possible in A43, but I can't see how.

Everyone else, thanks v. much for your replies. I'll be evaluating DO soon.

I installed TC but immediately deleted it as it was v. ugly.
623
Does anyone know any windows explorer shell/alternative which lets me edit (not just view) text files within the program itself w/o having to open a separate text editor like notepad?

Post New Requests Here / IDEA: Tabbed interface for Microsoft Word
« Last post by sri on September 28, 2006, 11:24 PM »
It would be really handy if there's a free plugin or a program which puts tabs MS Word so within one interface (window), I can have multiple documents open.

I came to know about 2 such commercial programs from JavaJones:

1) http://www.intellita...om/featuresWord.html

intellitabs.jpg

2) http://www.officeboosters.com/wtmain.htm

tabbed_docs.jpg

If this is relatively easy to develop, it could be extended to Excel and Powerpoint as well.

Does anyone also see the benefits of this?
