General Software Discussion / Re: Structurer for Windows?
« Last post by timns on January 18, 2011, 02:47 PM »
Wow. I've never thought there may be special utilities for that.
I am always using Notepad++ for such task: typing structure down, adding Batch commands and saving as BAT. Double click after that and it's done.
-fenixproductions (January 18, 2011, 02:01 PM)

Same here, but just recently I've been doing a lot of this, with minor variants each time. At some point you step back and say "hang on, there's gotta be a better way."

In fact, I'm actually trying to do that more often. Every time I feel like something's getting repetitive, I try to stop and find a better alternative. It's lead to some great finds over the years: Opus, Final Builder, FARR to name but three :)

XXCopy, A  Versatile File Management Utility is XCopy on turbo-steroids, cubed.  There are free-for-personal-use, Home and Corporate versions.

"It has more command switches (>230) than any other tool of its kind."  :o

...and I think this may be related to Wraith808's posting issue that we talked about over the weekend.

I just posted a message, but now when I look at it, it appears to come from joiwind!

I would not like someone else to be able to post as me.

Unfortunately I think mouser removed the message I posted as you — it was a corker!

If you just needed a simple folder/file maker, I could extend my Text 2 Folders application to cover files and basic template saving.  The custom content stuff is much more involved.

That would be just fine for now!!!

Can it also copy content from another folder as part of the process?

Is there anything like Structurer for Windows? Boy I could make a lot of use of that thing!

"This app allows you to rapidly create file/folder structures for your new projects. Less than a month later, the developer, Cesar Tessarin, is back with a much improved version which now provides support for template creation, as well as assigning custom content automatically to newly created files."

If not, I'll post it into the DC ideas section!

IM sent! What was the story with the T-shirts?

I will make a design (that is, I'll ask someone to make one) and then I'll subsidize handling and shipping from cafepress, or whatever, to the NANY 2011 participants

That is beyond generous!  8) But I'm such a fan of the idea of the NANY T-shirt that I am not going to try and talk you out of it

Hi timns!

I've been absent from DC for a while, and now found this thread.
I think you should add some description (or at least a link to a description) on the first post of this thread, so that people may know what Auspex is ;)
Also, linking the review article on the first post too might be nice :)

It certainly would. Thank you for the suggestion - I'll prettify this thread today.

i think i know what may have happened.. perhaps.

you know you are a MOD on that forum, which means you can MODIFY other people's posts.

i think you may have modified someones post thinking you were replying to it.

i've actually done this myself once or twice, thinking i was replying but i was really modifying.

some people just aren't ready for mod powers

Bet you anything you like that's what happened  :-[

I'm not too proud to own up  :D

Sorry, what was happening is that I was splitting the topic - maybe that's part of the problem? I put joiwind's post back as best I could.

1) that the pop-up with suggestions follows the cursor or the caret, at present it is at top left of the open text window
Yes, good one. What happens at the moment is that I ask Windows where it thinks the current cursor position is. Some applications are a lot better than others at reporting this. For instamce, as I write this, the pop-up is appearing just below and to the right of my cursor, which is pretty nice. Same for notepad++. But when I switch to Thunderbird, the pop-up appears more-or-less at the top of the composition window. I'll see what can be done.

2) minimize and maximize...!
Oh yes, and what's this all about then?

I've been thinking about the word lists which are becoming very long and about what would be the best way to arrange them (if they should be arranged) :
  • tree with folders ?
  • alphabetical folders ?
  • tabs ?
Well you can create folders in the tree already (right click) and drag items in there. Some are also created automatically, for instance completions, and also imported items. But I have the feeling you want more ... ?  :)

If you look in the "Clean Up" menu item, you'll see a reasonably powerful set of filters that you can use to delete items. At some point soon you'll also be able to use filters to move items into sub-folders.

...Be prepared...  ;)
dib dib dib!

My prime candidate for fix is:

hiding the auto complete window when typing more letters and no accordances are found.

Fixed, coming up in the next build.

I'm now a big fan of virtual machines, after the sterling advice from various members of this site. You can do it all for free, and creating a virtual PC based off your existing XP setup is actually quite a smooth process.

You can also try HiEditor.  It's a small, free editor
Remarkably small!  :o

Isn't it! And gave a good account of itself too. So that's two more editors installed on here. Thank you.

I have a 35mb xml file here that I need to make some small changes to. So far I've tried notepad++ and also e but they are apparently unable to open it successfully.

Anyone got some solid suggestions for something I can use instead please?

It has been noted that the 2010 office editions are moving back to sidebars and less clutter on the ribbon. I use OneNote 2010 here and the file tab is a sign of things to come, I think.

I should also add that nudone just made one of the tippest-toppest suggestions to improve the software.

my lips are sealed.

Now would be a good time, in fact, to re-iterate what I hope I have made very clear in the old Auspex thread: a lot of you folks have made some excellent suggestions which I greatly appreciate, and will incorporate when and where possible.

I do have to say, I am very pleased to have switched to MSE recently for just those reasons: flab! So far, MSE feels amazingly "light" on the system - especially considering it's an MS product.
