General Software Discussion / Re: European Parliament Votes to Reject ACTA
« Last post by tomos on July 04, 2012, 09:14 AM »
Great news!

and well done:
I (a citizen of Turkey, not EU) called a member of the european parliament, told him that I was calling from Turkey, and I had objections against ACTA. I asked him to reject the treaty, and he said he would consider it.

That looks promising. Is it possible to set hot keys to activate & deactivate?
Thanks for pointing this one out.

here's the last post in the related thread

Might be worth posting there (as well)

At least her name doesn't seem to be in this revolving door list:

she hasn't been in office since 1997 according to wikipedia.

Will be interesting to see what happens now.

Will software now have to cater to being passed on/sold and re-registered?
Commenter(s) make the point that this could end up with Software being sold as an expiring lisence model rather than "a permanent right to use the copy".

Some saying software doesnt wear out. But it does really - you've got to upgrade it eventually. So this must not be a negative thing for software companies imo.

In Germany (possibly in all EU?) "courts ... have ruled years ago that taking OEM software licenses out of a bundle and selling them separately is legal."
I bought windows that way (was originally intended for a Dell machine. I looked again lately though and there were almost no OEM copies on offer - I dunno did they clamp down on the supply or what happened.)

Adobe used to allow users to transfer registration. I dont know if that's still the case.

btw, I am wondering if donation coder is the right forum for discussing AHK... seems like the ahk forums might solve the problem faster at this point... just an idea though.
I think most of the "coding snacks" here are made using AHK.
Skwire's a meister at any rate ;-)

BTW I'm using a German keyboard with an English OS (7).
If it's any help I can test something - just say the word - keeping in mind you'll have to tell me exactly what to do :-[ :)

Seems SFFS 6 has just been released -
it *is* now called Syncovery.

Thanks for the alert — it was news to me.
-cranioscopical (July 01, 2012, 06:22 AM)

Yeah, I just accidentally came across it - I think it was just released this week, they probably havent sent notification yet (not to me at any rate).

Just minor changes in the GUI, but things *are* clearer
(e.g. here it's clearer that there's more options related to Real Time Sync)

Screenshot - 2012-07-01 , 11_52_48.png

edit/
install went well - I went with recommended settings, which kept the older ini file (custom location) and uninstalled SFFS.
You can customise the whole thing, and even keep both programmes.

I am not talking about Color my folder.

what "soft" were you talking about then?

> I am beginning to think don't exist software for this. I know several colouring software for folders and any does over folder's miniature view.

I'm not supprised, it seems like a pretty major hack...

Seems SFFS 6 has just been released -
it *is* now called Syncovery.

I've had the software since version 3.xx and my upgrade price was
(current price) - (50% original price)
which was 25 euros in my case.

Seems nice and fair.

What's new here
http://www.syncovery.com/v6/

I havent installed it yet - kind of hoping for GUI improvements (or some way of helping a better overview/understanding of a job/profile settings).
BTW I dont think there's even *one* screenshot at the new site :D maybe it's too new yet. Or maybe Tobias is a geek ;-)
5938
In the second point 2.

It's a folder in miniature view to change color and remain in the miniature view.
I see the soft change the icon , but in the miniature mode don't change the folder color.
 :-[

if you're talking about the Colour my folder software, I think you're better off posting in a "Colour my folder" thread (I dont use it myself).

I'm not fully clear Iain - who would be expected to pay damages if awarded?

I cant see the US paying anything. If the NZ "SS" officers/department (i.e. the NZ government) had to pay, they wouldn't do this again quite so casually, and neither would other countries with any sense.

General Software Discussion / Re: Why Microsoft killed the Windows Start button
« Last post by tomos on June 29, 2012, 02:39 AM »
Most of the time I use the Start button to stop the computer.

Well, in Windows 8, that's not in the start menu any more. Shutdown is almost an Easter egg.

this seems impressivly complex:

In the Metro interface, hover your mouse over the Zoom icon that appears in the lower right corner of the screen. The Charms bar should then pop up displaying several icons. Moving your mouse up the screen will reveal the names of each icon, including Search, Share, Start, Devices, and Settings. Click the Settings icon and then the Power Icon. You should see three options: Sleep, Restart, and Shut down. Clicking Shut down will close Windows 8 and turn off your PC.

Thanks for the tip :)

There was a mini vodka discussion a while back here (and the following couple of posts). 40hz recommended Chopin, I'm not a big vodka or spirit drinker so never got around to trying it. Svedka is much more affordable as well, IIR[price of Chopin]C.

Knights of Cydonia by Muse

-

Not only is the music fantastic, the music video is a hilariously great homage to spaghetti westerns.

that was brilliant :)

How about a bit of spaghetti western soundtrack. My favourite is:
Ennio Morricone - Il Grande Silenzio (Restless)

Sound quality is much better here (but no film intro)

Game today (Spain & Portugal) was a bit disappointing; went to penalties. Penalties always reminds me a bit of Russian Roulette. I know there's skill involved with penalties, & it's really tense and exciting in it's own way, but I'd much prefer to see a goal during the game. At least Italy won with penalties after having dominated the game.
Germany vs. Italy tomorrow could be the two best teams. Hopefully it's a good game :-) with a few bleeding goals during the game please :p
