I haven't yet checked if SP3 already is available in Danish as well, because I am still more concerned if all of my programs will keep on working or not. Please tell if 'you' had any programs stop working, after you updated to SP3??

Microsoft mistakes Skype for a Trojan

Mistakes happens, okay, but it took Microsoft four days to correct the error - I mean, 4 days are like forever for the Skype users caught in between! I would have been extremely disappointed had the same fault taken ESET (makers of NOD32 antivirus) this long to get right.

General Software Discussion / Re: What's the best free audio track INFO editor?
« Last post by Curt on April 24, 2008, 02:32 PM »
I never took any interest in tagging, and now I realize I had no clue what it meant - I guess I thought it was all about genre. Is this really all media info is about: tagging? Hmm... well, I am glad to hear it is that simple - now I have the final reason to use (and learn to use) my MP3tag... right now its' first greating said "this version was released quite some time ago, do you want to update?"   :-[

Thanks for enlightening me!

Edit:PS!
I would say MP3-Info also sounds interesting (though it too "was relased quite some time ago"). Edit2: There really are a lot of interesting apps mentioned!

General Software Discussion / What's the best free audio track INFO editor?
« Last post by Curt on April 24, 2008, 11:44 AM »
Some friends of mine have recorded and published a music CD. When I tried to transfer it to my PC the first problem was that RealPlayer 11+ didn't fully recognize the files as being audio format at all, so I had to use Nero. However, this is not important right now. But the second problem was that there were no informations at all to see. No track name, other than Track1, etcetera, and no info on the artists, no nothing. And in my little head this is now an important problem.

So I wanted to edit these infos myself, but realized that I have no editor to do so. Of course any of my Windows Media Player 11, RealPlayer 11, WinAmp 5.5 Pro, can do so, but the informations these apps can edit are too 'poor', if you know what I mean. I want to give it all the infos that normally are required on a music CD: Who wrote the text, who did the music, and when, and where, and so on - all it can have!

So I came here to ask you guys:
What is The Best gratis audio track INFO EDITOR, please?? § icon_question.gif

FileBox eXtender will only do it's tricks inside Explorer - in third party windows the only options are On Top and Roll Up.

The Barnacle version that I just have tried wouldn't extract script from exe. (?)

Because you want this feature in third party programs, I would guess it is impossible - though skrommel's Barnacle implies it can be done. My suggestion would be to get a launcher program (study this DC thread) with a auto-hiding toolbar at the edge of the screen. This way the links will never be too far away, though not at hand, but they will always be there.

Interesting little app from Microsoft. I've never heard of it, though - maybe one reason is that it has not been updated for eight years?

Operating System Requirements:
This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

Windows 2000
Windows NT
Windows 98
Windows 95

- but of course, it seems to work okay with XP as well.

But you were right, it won't batch edit
- and we are talking about thousands of smileys...

« Last post by Curt on April 23, 2008, 02:09 AM »
Thanks to Phill66 I've found the small and nice JPEG & PNG Stripper [JPS], and it made me once again wish for some app that will remove links from certain types of smileys. I think it is 'enough' that I once purchased "their" smiley program, I don't need to also advertice for them, do I. JPS will handle .PNGs but not .GIFs.

Do you know of a program that will batch remove links from a folder of images, please?  :tellme:

General Software Discussion / Re: Maxthon or Avant?
« Last post by Curt on April 20, 2008, 05:04 PM »
Ohh.. yes... I forgot to think of the many add'ons I have installed in Maxthon. Sorry!
5789
Turns out I already had registered, but obviously forgot...  :-[

Other than that, I think Mozilla has replaced an acceptable site map with a far worse one. Thousands of add'ons will stay undiscovered because of this stupid design.

Hmm..., cmpm, this Image Tweak is experimental and for logged-in users only. What other advantages are there, being logged in ? Does it take something special?

Right now I am testing both Auto Context Extension and HyperWords. They are sort of dubbing each other, but after an hours trying out the various options, I have managed to make them integrate nicely with the default Firefox 2 context menu.

I use both Avant and Maxthon (both 1.6 and 2), but prefer Maxthon 1.6 Classic.
However, I would say Avant surely is the lighter one on resources, and also the fastest.

Automatic Context Menu in Firefox

Posted: 19 Apr 2008 03:05 PM CDT

Do you find yourself using the right-click/context menu in Firefox rather frequently? If so you might benefit from having the menu automatically appear whenever you highlight some text on a site. For some people, including myself, that can be a huge time saver.

If that sounds like something you’d like to setup just take a few seconds to install the Auto Context extension in Firefox. You can completely customize the menu that automatically appears, which is a great opportunity to break free of the menu items that you never use. The menu that you’ll see by default is already quite slim though:

firefox-auto-selection.png

As you’ll notice in the screenshot above this extension also makes performing a search faster by listing all of your search engines in their own menu. Your default search engine is show as its own entity, but again this is all customizable in the options.

- but it won't install on my pc!  :(

Edit2: Oh, I am too slow to understand, and typing too soon...:  :-[
Auto Context Extension is not needed, when you have HyperWords. Wow!

Firefox Extension Coding Contest / Re: Avant'age addon for FF

HyperWords really is good, and I am surprised that I had forgotten about it.  :-[
Thanks for reminding me!

Hyperwords for Windows (including Internet Explorer/IE) will be available Summer 2008.
:)

However, in my opinion a floating tollbar would out-manoeuver HyperWords.  ;)

Firefox Extension Coding Contest / Avant'age addon for FF
« Last post by Curt on April 19, 2008, 06:38 PM »
I am confident that Mozilla will set up yet another Firefox Extension Coding Contest later this year, so I was thinking it would be fine to start out early, in order to maximize the chances of winning the contest!  ;)

There are so many useful addons for Firefox. Never the less, I will often choose to use Avant or Maxthon instead. The feature, I want to encourage 'you' to write for Firefox, is a default feature in Avant: the floating toolbar that will show up when you mark something on a page - you do not have to right-click; just mark and point!

The floating toolbar looks like this:

floatingtoolbar1.gif

And the options are, from left to right:

Copy Highlighted Content - Search the selected text in Internet - Search the selected text in the current site - Find the next occuremce of the selected text in the current page - Highlight the selected text in the current page - Save to local disk - Copy URL to the clipboard - Open in new window - Send in an e-mail + (in tab): Save selected region as image.

"Save to disk" will auto- create, insert & pre-name the file:
floatingtoolbar2.gif

I know you can have some of these features in other addons, but no-one else has (as far as I know of) combined so many useful feaures into a single extension - and no-one else has made them available in a floating toolbar, except of course for the Image Toolbar extension; the others all use the context menu instead. In my little head Avant is way ahead Firefox and everyone else, when it comes to this little market, so I would very much like to encourage 'you' to author an extension for Firefox to match this Avant'age!

How (not) to spend an evening: Remove your Firefox browser(s), and make a fresh install and add twenty extensions (yes, a much more slim version than I used to have)! To make a terrible long story short; i am typing this post in Firefox 2 - and I won't update to version 3 until the fat Elvis is final&stable.

Thanks for your help, guys!
