..., if you didn't know what the functions did, made coasters.
....made two coasters when I was trying to burn onto multi-session disks.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are coasters? -and why exactly "coasters"?

It sounds really good, this finnish Audio CD Ripper, Audio Converter, and CD/DVD Creator
- but somehow I get the feeling it is a bit ... I don't know ... "nerdish"??
How easy is it to use?  :tellme:

Forgive me for using the same words about the German cdr front-end.
It doesn't say anything about saving meta data and cover art??

Yes, Nero 7 was excellent in many ways. And what's more: I have discovered what button I should have clicked, but didn't - so it might even have been able to do the job right, if only I had understood what button to click... Well: too late! And Nero 8 is just too expensive for me. But now I come to wonder how I managed to get my hands on Nero 7 Essentials in the first place? Has it been on GAOTD or something??  Hmm, come to think twice about it, I guess it came with one of my USB hard drives. Maybe I should check this and reinstall Essentials, to check if the error once again not was the program, but me...

:-[  - I have the entire Ashampoo catalogue, but I used Nero because I wanted to get the best result... Guess I should have taken more time to at least TRY to remember what other choices I already had at hand! But I am glad to hear Ashampoo will do it's job.

I am not sure it is fair to compare it to Filebox eXtender; RecentX can do so much more! - I use them both. But yes, it used to eat a lot of resources, but that problem has been solved. I recommend RecentX without reservation,... *(section removed due to lack of (human) memory)*... The program doesn't need support anymore, over the years it has been kind of perfected... pardon my French.

Go for it!

More than "probably", you can bet. They didn't even care to vary the prices: each and every one of the 31 listed programs (the one and only program, with many different names, I would guess) is €20.44

I have heard many good things about JR Media Center, but I really didn't care that much - I thought I already had what I would ever need. But I will try it, I guess - it is forty dollars... Will JR also convert various file types, and maybe extract MP3 from .FLV and .AVI files?

I have never before heard about Infra Recorder http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/
- I will have to check this one out as well!

General Software Discussion / Your fav' audio CD burner?
« Last post by Curt on May 06, 2008, 03:00 PM »
I never took interest in how to burn audio CDs, because I didn't have the need. But last week a girl friend asked me to make the audio from some YouTube video files playable on her tiny ghetto blaster, so I was forced to give it a try. I had a copy of Nero Essential 7 which was impressive to me in many ways, so I carefully followed the procedure and burned a CD. Of course the disc was playable, and she was happy with it - but I was not! I am "absolutely certain" that I did as I was supposed to do - maybe - and before starting the burn I double checked if the filenames were listed right, and all such things. But nevertheless, the CD's info was not readable to any other player! I mean, the music was okay, but the file names and all other info had gone - all the disc had to say on the other players was "Track 1" + "Unknown this, and unknown that", "Track 2" + "Unknown.." and so on. None of the important informations were saved - no artist, no track name, no nothing.

As I said, Nero was impressive to me in many ways, but I got so upset that I removed all of it without hesitating - thus saving 385 MB! Their photo manager was 135 MB, or something, so I removed that one too, just for the fun of it... So today I saved half a GIGA in just two clicks!

Now I will try out my StarBurn 10 (35 MB) from GAOTD, it seems to offer most, but not all, of what Nero could do, but I keep thinking to myself: "I wonder what the other DC'ers are using?"  :-\

So my question to 'you' is:
What do you use to burn audio CDs that will show all proper info? § icon_question.gif

@ yksyks: do you have both Mikogo and Mikogo Skype Extra installed, or just the latter?

- is it true that the Skype Extras should be sufficient?  :tellme:

The listed asking price for Beam2Support is high (Setup fee: €50, license: €35 per month) - so the license must clearly be targeting professional tech supporters. Will BeamYourScreen take up offering licenses for the full featured Beam2Support for private once-in-a-while customers,  or does such *(none-)clients* have to 'settle' with Mikogo??

Yes, PromptPal's GUI reacts a little too slow,
- but PromptPal is instant if you use the band in XP's task bar:

As for now the band is too wide to have open all of the time, but the author from Technology Lighthouse has promised me to TRY to make the band take up no more space than an icon.

General Software Discussion / Re: Eve - a tiny freeware vector editor
« Last post by Curt on April 28, 2008, 06:27 PM »
The author made several promises about future features but somehow gave up on his baby: EVE has been abandoned for almost five years by now. One reason may have been that .SVG never gained the popularity he anticipated. Nor doesn't it help that a very important .SVG illustration is missing from the online manual, and, speaking of manual (wannabe), that EVE comes with the strangest INTRO I have ever seen. I can only show you a little part of it because the dimension is suitable for at least two large widescreens! There are no scrollbars or anything; you navigate entirely with your arrow keys!

Maybe also try the new Ambereh from sourceforge:

ambermaingif.gifambercanvas.gifamberchat.gif

Ambereh is a simple and easy-to-use drawing application with online and offline capabilities.

In online mode, you can chat and share the same canvas with your friends, allowing you to make a cooperative painting. There is no need for a central server: Ambereh works with a decentralized network, where any user can connect to any other user already in the party, and everybody will see and interact with everybody's drawings.

In solo mode, you have a great set of tools for artistic drawing, like anti-aliased brushes, brushes with custom bitmaps, full opacity support, circles drawing, auto-circles for softening edges, blur and smudge for giving the detailed touches for your sketch!

In both cases, you also get the ability to record all the steps taken in your drawing, so later you can replay the whole process and watch your painting coming to life: from the blank canvas to the final masterpiece!

You're welcome, Darwin. I have been impressed with certain parts of BareGrep Pro (DEMO), but as I said elsewhere BareGrep doesn't support special national characters / Unicode ('æøå', etcetera), so I might never "feel" to purchase it.

Were you talking about the PRO version?

Of course I don't know how often or for how long you guys need to search, but I recommend the BareGrep pro DEMO version also. It has been my experience that all searches are done within the five minutes it officially will work (one time I had it running for 12 minutes) before it auto-closes . But then there is the annoying splash, hmm... however, I don't yet feel to pay $35 to have it removed, and for my few and very specific searches it has been enough to use the demo version. And for any other searches I will use Search GT or Quizo's internal.
