Hi saurabhdua,

I typed "netwo" in FARR and it showed my the below screen, with "My Network Places",

[attach1]

Selecting 'My Network Places' I got below screen,

Is this what you are looking for ?

If not, better attach some screen shot of 'Launchy', as that will help the developer to understand what you are looking for.

General Software Discussion / Re: Is DoOver dead?
« Last post by anandcoral on May 16, 2014, 07:43 AM »
20 years ago, I used Multiedit for programming and it had a recordable-on-the-fly macro feature that was stellar. Now I'm using other editors at work and they don't even have this feature! I downloaded "DoOver" and thought my problems were solved, however it's a little buggy. Like if I record the string <!--this is a test--> the exclamation point character is dropped in playback. I downloaded the latest version which is supposed to be v1.2 but the About in the program tells me it's version 1.0. It looks like scrommel hasn't done a lot of work lately. Is this dead? Is there another macro recorder that anyone can recommend?

Hi wysocki,

I sincerely hope  skrommel is taking his long due vacation and will come back. We have learnt many logic from his source codes.

He offers the AHK source and I had a look into it. The version number shown by exe, which you ran, is 1.0 because the code has that number. It was not updated, may be by mistake.

'!' sign most probably getting lost due to converted to 'ALT' key.

Wouldn't be surprised is MS knew about this before April 8 and waited to release the info to add even more marketting pressure to dump XP.

Beginning to want to wipe Windows 8 off this laptop and put XP back just to say screw MS
-Carol Haynes (April 29, 2014, 03:06 PM)

Yeah right.

I installed Win7 over Xp in my old machine, when Xp support was ceased.

But now planning to overwrite back to Xp, anyway Win7 runs toooo slow in the old machine and I use FF.

General Software Discussion / Firefox 29 - soooooo similar to Chrome
« Last post by anandcoral on April 30, 2014, 02:24 AM »
Firefox upgraded to 29 and it looks so similar to Chrome now that I have to take a closer look at the extension icons on top-right to assure I am in FF and not in Chrome.

At least it should have the 'fox' icon some where to differentiate it.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Stick-A-Note + Universal Viewer - Mini-Review

Hi rjbull

Sorry I did not checked your message earlier. Life is hectic to be the least. Always fail to make any one happy or satisfied, no matter how hard one tries.

Anyway, yes SAN can solve your problem.

For example, give the title value, say "myfile", then if you open "myfile.doc" or "myfile.txt" or "all myfiles.xls", SAN will show the notes for it.

Give it a try and revert in case of any problem.

Anand

Thanks Shades,

I am now really thinking of opening my purse for it. Only 'soft' ware solution won't take me far. I have to make some 'hard' ware solution  :)

Hey mouser, don't stop but, PT will help nevertheless

Thanks mouser.

I checked for the cpu fan etc. when I first got this problem few months back. Everything is OK. I do not even screw the cpu box cover panel now. It can be slide open any time so that to cool the inner if required. I do not have air conditioning or so in my computer room, and our environment are a bit on hotter side. This also affects the machine.

I noticed that if I run old programs which do not use process much, there is no shut down, no matter how long I use it. For example I can use Adobe Flash Player 9 without any problem, but 10 or above shuts the machine after few minutes.

Last time it got shut down on antivirus scan for whole hdd. Though old version of same antivirus ran OK.

As it is difficult to get old versions now and also since I use this machine just for processing type background jobs, I found that suspending the new programs when it crosses 70% or more, helps. I can do it, say pause the anti virus when it goes on high cpu use, but it requires me to sit before it.

If Process Tamer does it, I can have this old machine still of use.

Anand

Hi mouser,

Can we have 'suspend' as an option in Process Tamer ?

In one of my old machine which I installed Win7, any process intensive program running for few minutes makes the cpu to shut down. On next restart, the bios says the it was shut down due to cpu overheating.

Lowering the process priority do not work, so if the process is suspended till the cpu load falls back, and again started, then I hope it will help to complete the job without cpu over heating.

Please see if it is possible to do.

General Software Discussion / win7 is like win8
« Last post by anandcoral on April 02, 2014, 07:18 AM »
Don't rush to me !

I came to Win8/8.1 directly from WinXp. One of my machine still has Xp and I am using it. Since Xp support is closed and I expect other developers will also move out, I installed Win7 on it (can not install Win8 as hardware is not enough).

Now when I first saw the desktop, it looked like Win8 desktop, with a round start button. I wanted to disable auto play and speed up keyboard. Just like habit of Win8, I tapped WinKey, typed 'auto play' and it showed me all control option for it 'in the start menu'.

Well I think I can seamlessly work on Win7 now, without need to learn something new. FARR is there for all other programs for me.

Living Room / Re: Dumb question but ...
« Last post by anandcoral on March 12, 2014, 02:00 AM »

If that's the case, hopefully there would be some sort of settings you could adjust to control that behavior, although that doesn't appear to be the case for a Dell webcam under Windows 8. A quick search suggests they dropped their Webcam Central program for Windows 8 in favor of reliance on the Microsoft Camera app.

Yes that's what I found out about Dell. For Win7 they have the webcam utility and some suggested to use it. I downloaded it, and also drivers from Dell, but till date am afraid to run any on Win8, lest my webcam just stops.

If other people see me correct in the webcam, I do not have in any problem to manipulate captured images.

HI MilesAhead, not a dumb question.

I too have this peculiar problem in my Dell Win 8 Touch.

When I start 'camera' from metro it shows as if I am sitting before a mirror. When I touch the screen to take the screen shot, it saves the image flipped horizontally.

I searched and downloaded many utilities including some from Dell, but till date I do not have courage to install any. I have accepted it as default behavior. I can manipulate a screen shot image if I like.

General Software Discussion / Re: The nightmare of the programmer languages
« Last post by anandcoral on January 21, 2014, 10:07 AM »
Yes I remember dBase III Plus, Rick Spence Clipper and many other books along with Mastering VB 6.

I saw the Spanish program screen shot, it is using, most probably Expand or Grep Library type of codes for the drop-box etc.

dbDOS is, most likely, like DosBox which allows to run 16 bit DOS programs in 64 bit Windows OS. I use DosBox to check some of the old applications we made for our clients who wants them in Windows version.

Like I said, no matter what, you can not take a DOS code and make in Windows one. The GUI is huge difference as per the code goes. XBase++, which we use, will compile and make it run in hybrid mode in Windows 64 bit, but is very very costly.

You can wait for dBase.com if they come up with some easy solution.

General Software Discussion / Re: Tips for Windows 8 (got any?)
« Last post by anandcoral on January 21, 2014, 01:20 AM »
Well I am using Win 8 and now Win 8.1 and have no problem.

I never felt missing the start button. I am using FARR from Xp and got so habituated with it's quick keyboard response to open an application that I forgot 'there is a start button' !

I just prey that FARR works in Win 9, 10,... and I have no qualms with MS.

BTW I take Metro as a bloatware added by MS, just like IE in Win 98. I used Firefox then and ignore Metro now. Win 8.1 helps me here and I never see it.

Hi Contro,

What is your actual requirement ?

You see my programer professional life started with dBASE II. It continued to dBASE III, IV, FoxBase, FoxPro, Clipper till DOS and now Xbase++ and FoxPro 9 in WIN environments.

All the above use DBF files as database and NTX or CDX etc. for indexing. And I was able to re-use my codes from one to another language with minor modifications and add new features as per the new language.

I use AutoIt and AutoHotkey to develop small tools to help me in my development profession, for example, "Merge CSV and Text" creates the complete new project prgs from base template for me.

To convert a dBASE code to AutoIt, say, is trival if the code inputs something and processes and prints. Reading text file is also not a problem. The real problem will start if your code uses DBF and NTX files heavily and searching, sorting etc. All these which can be easily done in dBASE (it is made for it) are a 'nightmare' to do in AutoIt.

With my experience in these languages, I can assure you no converter can do justice in converting code to different 'tangent' language, like dBASE to AutoIt.

We went for xBASE++ (it is a commercial product) as it supported most of our Clipper codes, and were able to come out with a Windows version of our DOS product quickly.

N.A.N.Y. 2012 / Re: NANY 2012 Pledge & Final Release: Tell When Done
« Last post by anandcoral on December 31, 2013, 01:34 AM »
Hi dr_andus,

Sometimes the process on which you press hotkey for TWD, does not do any process, but call some other process. Since TWD watching the first process, it assumes that it is done. So may be CT is calling some other process, may be in it's own folder, to do the time consuming job. You can run some process viewer/explorer to check it.

I have plan to allow user to change or select the actual process which is doing the job. Hopefully will be able sit with it in next year.

Hi Cashper,

Noticed your FileSearchy app today, and I am curious why you did not put it in NANY 2014 instead ?
FileSearchy is freeware, so sets with "NANY" more than "Announce Your Software/Service/Product", I feel.

Well it is your decision, but I am curious.
