I do want to keep new features coming along too, just to keep you all excited  8)

Good man!

I must admit to having been breathless when I saw that another step had been taken in the wizard. Probably due to the long sigh when I found that you travel, still, on that longest journey.

To quote Gandalf: "A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to."

Ok ok ok ok  :P

Of course I shall be addressing bugs, but I do want to keep new features coming along too, just to keep you all excited  8)

No. What for?

I'm with Ath. Maybe a couple of years back I would have considered it, but I have a rock-solid, secure and pretty nice PC setup by now. Ok it took some effort, and it's very specific to my needs, but I think there's too much stuff I would miss moving to Mac.

Does anybody want any specific features adding?

1. One button for "select all and copy to clipboard" please

2. Allow window re-sizing

Hm, IMHO you already have quite a few issues on Redmine that need to be taken care of, before new features should be added :-[

Very nice work. What do you think about making "Minimize to tray on close" a default? For most programs, I hate when they do that, but for keyboard replacement programs, I think it is standard and expected. (Same to some extent for "Run when Windows starts")

Probably not a bad idea actually. At least maybe after the first use - where I'd like to try to encourage people to set up a couple of test Replacements, so they get the feel.

Thank you!

Wonderful!

Do you have plans to add the rest of the BB codes that can be used?

Edit: sorry - working here under Vista Business x86.

Yes, sorry typo - I meant "why" as in "why did you decide to do it?" - fixed the original post.

I adjusted my first answer.   ;)

And a very good answer it is too

  • How were the NANY applications coded?  For great justice?  With tender loving care?  I'm not sure what you're asking here.

Ok it's just me, but I have a great interest in such things. So would the NANY crew be willing to share:

  • Why were the NANY applications coded? (I mean why decide to code this particular app)
  • What IDE did you use, if any?
  • What language(s) is the application written in?
  • Does it rely on any 3rd party libraries / code / graphics?
  • Were any clever design principles used?
  • Or any really hairy algorithms that you'd like to boast about?
  • What was the trickiest part?
  • Would you like to make a mention of any other DC members who helped out?

Edit: Actually, we all have an interest in such things, so in lieu of the regular survey maybe the NANY Entrants would like to fill this? Thanks Tims for posting the questions!

In what way(s) could people contribute to a tower defense game? Obviously coders could help program, artists could make graphics, and musicians could help with music or maybe sound effects, but in what other ways would someone be able to contribute to a TD game?

I think level design is often underrated. Also, the tedious things that those high-falutin' coders overlook, like documentation, help, tutorials. Ooh, and my favourite: play testing!

I was probably already bombarded with ads and had to wait 30+ seconds before I could even download the installer.

But didn't you know that: (see attachment in previous post)

Finish your sentence! The suspense is torture!

Haha! Sorry, I posted then realised I hadn't added the graphic  :-[

It didn't for me :( I've always wanted to be punished by a software application! :'(

Now there's gotta be an idea for a new NANY app in THAT comment!

@rjbull - all useful comments, thank you.

I'll add these three items to the redmine tracker so we don't forget about them.

Certainly I can try to extend the Ignore feature to be on a per window basis quite quickly... that's the first one I'll look at.

Have you tried DCDisplay  (it's designed as a comic viewer but it can view all the files in a directory). It can view up to 60 fps (hold down and after 1/2 second it goes into turbo mode :))

Neil

Now, see that would not have occurred to me until you just mentioned it. I'd much rather use a DC product if I can. I'll try 'er out.

A useful list!
But how much variation do you think has been introduced by the manual method of switching to the next image?

Maybe a macro which would react consistently would be a fairer way to compare them.

BTW my next year's NANY entry will be a game. Let me know when Perry sets up the topic  ;D

My prime candidate for fix is getting the icon out of the task bar when it is closed.

Fixed, coming up in the next build (83)

As I mentioned some time back, when Auspex opens on my machine (it's set to minimize on close) hitting the close box minimizes it to the tray and to the task bar; the task bar item responds to nothing. Have to use the tray icon to kill Auspex. Be glad to see the end of that behaviour.

Whoa is me!

That, and still quite a few other items  :-[

I just want to get the restore feature working after poor old zwei's issue, then I'll upload a new 'un.

@superboyac:

Try version 1.2.1.451a from theirs forum. It's labeled as alpha, but it stays like this for some 11 months, so it's probably the last version ever available. Anyway, it's quite stable, I'm using it for some time without any problems.

Their forum seems to be down. Does anyone have this file handy please?

Hi all, I'd started to use this new app and built up even just a handful of expansions before I experienced a crash and all my expansions were gone. Still, I liked the app very much so decided to get to grips with the backup/restore options. Could it just be me, but restore simply doesn't seem to work. I can see in the backup (zip) file that all my expansions are there, but my attempts to restore (just the menu option) result in no change to the content shown on screen. I'm hoping that someone will point out what a fool I am (so that I can use the facility immediately), but I've gone through various cycles, restarts, testing for mods, deletes, adds, etc, etc and just can't see what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions welcome!

(one small point, can someone tell me when "saves" are made too?)

Lovely app, many thanks

Hi Zwei, sorry you lost your expansions.

Auspex saves its data during shutdown - if anything goes wrong at this point, I can imagine data could be lost, but I have not seen it for myself.

The restore feature is not yet working, but if you have made a backup, this can be manually restored by closing Auspex and then unzipping the backup file into the correct folder. This is located in your application data folder, in a subfolder called Auspex.

For example, on my PC here, the path is:
C:\Users\tim\AppData\Local\Auspex

If you'd like a hand with this, send me a PM!

Later on this will be covered in the user guide, and of course Restore will be available shortly.
