Thanks for explaining, Target.

Can it be that some (cheap) Compact Discs don't support CD-TEXT ??
- they were tagged as being "for audio", but "music" was not mentioned...

This thread really is interesting - but I am not sure how much I understood...  :-[

One thing I know I don't understand is this instantaneous backing up.
If a file corrupts my drive, won't I be doing the same to the backup drive?  :tellme:

http://www.tooltipmanager.com/

Does anyone know for sure if this Tooltip Manager supports special national characters like 'æøå' ? The site does'nt offer any 'money back' guarantees, so I won't try it, without first knowing this.

As I sat and watched my movie Darwin passed 4000 posts,
- and we didn't get a screenshot!

- I think you should go for the Softmaker original, because it will be updated much more often than Ashampoo's version.

I sympathize a lot with iphigenie's loss. What a horrible feeling it must be!  :(

---

I have only little doubt that Ashampoo writes most of their stuff themselves.

Also, only for US citizens,

- yes, U.S. citizens only.

In Denmark the asking price is more than $1300
- yes, that is more than thirteen hundred dollars!
[Edited: One company is even charging $1556!]
This makes me want to say a lot of things...
but I will hold on to my breath, and declare the obvious:
$59 is an  E X T R E M E L Y  good price!
5734
... full price for the first ..... in 2001!

Wow! Did you get caught in traffic or something? Or are you simply addicted to discounts?! I have already decided there will be no Ashampoo on my next PC.

Well, this post is really just about a minor amusing detail: you have a lot of 0s and 1s in your post, Darwin, and you know I have a thing for numbers, so I just couldn't resist taking a picture of some of them:

Your timing was (is?) remarkable, Darwin!  ;)

..the entire Ashampoo catalogue will give you less than 4000 yiggles.
.. I have over 4000 ...

How did you manage this?  :tellme:
Was it merely the many upgrades as time went by,
or did you - like me  :-[ - forgot you already had a program, and purchased two?

Sorry, Mike, of course you purchased extras for someone else, as a gift.
Yes, I'll bet you did!  ;)

There is a little story about these 'yiggles' that they use. If you buy this and this from them they will give you so and so many yiggles. When you have 'earned' (=purchased) 2000 yiggles you are entitled to a 20% discount, once, as a Silver member. At 4000 yiggles you become a Gold member, and the one time rebate is 40 percent. For some reason, I don't know why, Ashampoo stopped sending me these "newsletters" offering rebate. No more offerings for Curt. How many yiggles do I have? 3985. For me the difference between a 20 and a 40 percent discount is 15 yiggles!

Edited:
I should explain that the entire Ashampoo catalogue will give you less than 4000 yiggles.
5741
Oh, now $30? Well, what can you do, the prices are climbing all the time...

which software app stays open on your desktop all day?

I guess you didn't ask for must-have apps in the sys-tray, [Edited: I didn't notice at first how old the thread actually is: 5/5/5 !], so I will have to say Thunderbird and Firefox, only.

Almost everything else is either minimized/closed to sys-tray, or not open at all, except of course for programs like PS Tray Factory, Rainlendar, BetaClock, safety programs, etcetera.

I have no understanding of the technical side of this problem, but it seems to me that all this spoofy thingy is possible because we don't care to use Digital Signature (DS)? I tried to use it for private mailing when it was installed on my first computer (that is, the first with Internet access), but almost no-one had their email client set up to handle it. In Denmark we have another version of DS than the ones we all are offered via Microsoft, and we use it for addressing the authorities (we can do all of our taxes via the Internet only), and may use it privately. But no-one cares to use it for normal emailing because there are always someone who cannot open you mail because they have not installed this DS or they don't understand how to use it. And that may cause allow the actual problem.

Or am I completely mistaken?

General Software Discussion / Re: BEWARE: IE7Pro and OrbitDownloader
« Last post by Curt on May 09, 2008, 03:38 AM »
Welcome, gimme!

We may not like their methods, but I am confident their products are o'kay.

I have been using both IE7Pro and Orbit, though not at the moment (but they are still installed and updated), and was never informed by NOD32, ThreatFire, or Outpost Pro, about anything dangerous. I would take "the risk", because they are both doing what they promise to do, and I have not been spammed in any way, but this does not mean that I approve of their marketing methods in general.

- this Total Video2Dvd Author is confusing me. The author did a major attempt to improve on his program last autumn, by giving out free licenses for good ideas, promotions, and language translations, but then it sort of died in November - and very few if any of the ideas were implemented.

One example:
In the first / initial "system settings" there are these two items one has to deal with:

01_SystemSettings_Chapters+Locations.gif

- fixed count of minutes between chapters? Fixed?!! In the initial system settings?!!!  :o

And what kind of program seems not to know where it is installed?
- it really is installed in C:\%PROGR..%\Total Video2DVD Author -but appears not to know this!

For these two "minor" reasons I have not yet taken up testing the program. I am still too upset!
I must point out, though, that the program is said to work just fine.

General Software Discussion / Re: Your fav' audio CD burner?
« Last post by Curt on May 08, 2008, 02:21 AM »
The headline was meant to stress that the burner should handle music files' meta data properly, because my first attempt was missing all the info. If it can burn what else you have got would only be another plus. With this said, I don't agree with you. They don't all handle every job equally good - some are experts on 'this' but not so fantastic on 'that'.
5749
There cannot be both a trial period and a nag screen. I will not try this program.

But then again, I don't do reviews, do I...   :-[   ;D
