It can be played with 4 players using 2 sets, but no one really plays it with other than 2 players as far as i can tell.

Ok another mini board game review for you.

One of my recent favorite two-player head-to-head games is Summoner Wars:
summonerwars2.jpg

People have called Summoner Wars a "miniatures" game played with cards -- essentially players square off against each other moving around an army of units that are represented by cards.  It's a little like chess except with a very heavy fantasy theme, and a huge variety of unique cards and assymetric abilities (each player has a different army with different abilities).

It's one of those games that hits a sweet spot for people who are addicted to variety because the sets come with tons of different factions you can choose from to represent your army, all of which play *very* differently.

It shares some of the same feel as Magic the Gathering, but on a spatial map.  You can buy tons of additional sets of armies, and if you get really into the game you can construct your own custom decks (not for me) but this isn't a "collectible" game like Magic so there is no issue of rare and expensive cards.

I'm not a fan of overly complex and fiddly rules, and this game is definitely manageable, unlike similar games i've looked at, and it's very fast to setup and tear down.

Very fun stuff, highly recommended.

Just wondering, based on your reviews of Settlers of Catan and Heroscape, if the two could be blended; combine the fast-action gameplay of Heroscape with the simpler map and social aspects of Settlers?

it's a great idea.. the "small battlefield" idea is often called a "skirmish" game mechanic.

Hi all,

Just wanted to apologize for being so hard to find on the forum of late and so slow with updates to my software -- i've spent the last 4-6 weeks working on upgrades for the DC website (see here); mostly forum upgrade which is finished and just waiting to go live, and then lately on the main site CMS upgrade which is just getting started.

I'm off to a family vacation for the next week, but i should have internet access so i'll still be around.  I'll be back in full force at the end of the month -- and i'm looking forward to making these upgrades public.

Hi paarkhi! Great to see you.

I agree this is a useful utility idea -- there needs to be a good free tool for this.

I also noted above that the red lines that appeared in the window where you stitch the scrolled slides together (which were actually the lines from the sandbox) were really useful in that window because they showed you precisely were the edges of each slide was.  That makes it easier to properly space them.  So I suggested that maybe putting some semitransparent red lines around the slides in the stitching window might be a nice enhancement!

you know that is an interesting idea.. like a button to toggle semi-transparent red lines showing the stitching locations in the preview, so you could very quickly identify the overlap areas for inspection.  neat idea! putting it on my todo list.

There was a 5,000 post mug but i don't think very many were sent out.

It might be nice to have a mug celebrating the new forum too, like "I survived the DonationCoder.com upgrade of 2015" :)

But we need someone to create the images!

It sounds like you've found a bug with the red-lines being used to outline the area for capture -- I'll try to fix.

Question -- did those red outlines only happen when the window you were capturing was full screen?

Security shouldn't be an issue for us -- we are really using just the very basic features of joomla, without a bunch of 3rd party modules -- but more importantly -- users will not be able to register and have accounts on the cms, other than a handful of admins editing the pages.

The thing is, whatever cms we use -- we will just barely be using the cms features -- just a handful of users, no ability for normal people to create accounts, little or no extensions, mostly static pages.  The likelyhood of security vulnerabilities in such a scenario is close to zero.

sorry posted in wrong topic somehow!

Both SuperMan and Ath are correct regarding overlaps.

SC does assume that all but the last scroll will be of equal size.  It is possible, though rare, to be using an app where the scrolling, even when done by "pages" is not exactly the same size on each page.. this can produce a problem where the overlaps may be off by a pixel when stitching.  I can give some thought to some option that might try to detect that and nudge the overlaps a tiny bit if it can figure out where it happens..
