You'll get a lot of stuff on Wikipedia, mind you this doesnt really make sense to me - they say 'alternatively' it means... (alternative to what?):
Absinthium comes from Ancient Greek ἀψίνθιον (apsinthion)/ἀσπίνθιον,[9] underlain by a pre-Greek Pelasgian word, marked by the non-Indoeuropean consonant complex νθ. Alternatively, it might possibly mean "unenjoyable", and probably refer to the bitter nature of the derived beverage.[citation needed]

The plant smells lovely. I haven't come across any versions of the drink.

Edit/ the drink page's etymology is more informative. Both wiki pages pretty much say that it's poisonous reputation was fairly unfounded (lets face it, if you drink a lot of any spirit you're going to go off your head)

Hah!
Google only finds plagued.

^ yes!
I didnt mean to be disingenious there, I should have said that too. Was literally just wondering about the cost of production.
(Obviously if higher value coins were made with valuable metals, that factor would be a relatively small percentage.)

^ :D you can get drunk on gold too, cant you?
_______________________________

Precious metals only have an intrinsic value within a system too. They're not directly consumable. They need to be refined, assayed, and agreed upon by whomever. They need both a market and an exchange before they become valued. So I'd like suggest they don't have much 'intrinsic' value outside of the society that assigns such value to them. And once you get outside a technological society, the far more common metals and alloys (iron and steel) are much more valuable (i.e. useful and usable) than the more precious variety which are used in less advanced societies primarily for decoration - if they are used at all.

I think that's pretty clear.
If precious metals were just valued for their industrial worth, I wonder what they'd be worth (probably impossible to estimate).

Re the metal in coins, I wonder what it actually costs to make a coins?
I wouldn't be suprised if the smaller nominations cost more than their worth - yup ;) -

As of 2012, it costs the U.S. Mint 2.41 cents to make a cent because of the cost of materials and production.[4]

Considerable acceleration was applied if memory serves.
I think you'll find that the technical term for that is shelling.
-cranioscopical (October 08, 2012, 01:24 AM)

I got shelled once then -while going at high speed on a bike- some little beggar got me right on the ear - nearly took my ear off. The blood and egg pouring down my neck looked very impressive when I got home.

Will be interesting to see how they decide.

What's with the court numbers - is the fifth 'higher' than the sixth?

Is the supreme court #1?

They could end up driving many who just want desktop type environment to apple or linux. I suspect they'll try and keep both, if only for that reason, but not allow us to seperate the two fully as you say Carol, for the dosh.

From what people say, they're just getting bogged down on a few details that MS are either to stubborn (or...) to change.

from another thread, I dont know how accurate this article is - it's mainly speculation about the 'why'- why MS dont make it easier (for anyone, but especially people in a work environment) to avoid Metro or simply kill it completely. It's an interesting slant on it anyways.

[...] Also, same issue with the desktop/metro thing...wouldn't someone (rather quickly) create a program to default send the user to the desktop?  Just like how DOPus can replace your windows explorer?

Hi app, best of luck with everything (I got in touch).

@omnray, absolutely no disrespect intended, but I thought that was a pretty stupid thing to say, and I wanted to reply to it myself, but I think app summed it up. I'm lucky enough to have work for the next few months, so cant complain (but I can still only afford my current 8GB memory cause it's not exactly at the top of my list of things to do with my money ;-)

OTOH I think your chrome extension is amazing

I think it's a great idea -in theory at any rate-
one OS that will work for desktop and/or tablet.

From what people say, they're just getting bogged down on a few details that MS are either to stubborn (or...) to change.

But then I havent used it yet.

I wouldn't actually *know* most of the answers to
those questions in your history lesson Renegade -
I could guess a few though ;-)

(of course I thankfully can still research them too)

They were Montauk daisies. I did a search for images - when not in flower, they're very different to the daisies I'd know in that they have a bushy plant.
Now I'm far from an expert with cannabis plants, but I could tell the difference fairly easily.

that sounds like that photoshopped meme doesnt it :D

[Allen]: Strangely, there is no way to set the desktop as your default view (there should be).

that one is hard to understand.

What happened in 1988 40? (I only started using computers myself 1999)

They look wicked cool - what's the link? I might get one even though I'm skeptic wrt. the whole scheme :-)

I'd love one of those - or two, frame them showing both sides.

I'll repeat: "where's the link?" (apparently there's been a few versions already released but I couldnt find these ones)

Another lame attempt at humor gone awry. You'd think I'd learn after awhile.

dont give up - that gave me a good laugh.
Just to be sure: I'm not laughing at you btw (!), it's just I can relate to the situation -and then the nice self-effacing dry-wit* followup

Screenshot Captor / Ode to the SC Popup Dialogue + Request
« Last post by tomos on October 04, 2012, 08:13 AM »
Mouser spoke about the post capture pop-up dialogue recently as something more for beginners. I find it gives great flexibility myself - if I'm doing a batch of screenshots, I'll change the 'after capture' setting at the bottom of the dialogue to [stay minimised in tray] and choose whatever action I want for the following captures, (usually [Keep image and hide]). Afterwards I'll enable the popup dialogue again *if I remember* - as I dont know what I'll want to do with the next screenshot (often I'll just want to copy the filepath to the clipboard).

The weaklink in that workflow is re-enabling the popup which has to be done in preferences AFAICS**

An easier way to re-enable the pop-up would be very helpful for working this way.
I had been thinking of a hotkey to toggle it, but that might be problematic (is it on or off, with what settings, etc). Maybe an option to enable via systray right-click would be the best (& easiest?) way.
Even an option to disable via menu might be problematic - again, with what settings? Unless last used settings are remembered - the danger there being if [Discard] was the last option used...

**Edit
see mouser's screenshot below showing systtray menu option.
I thought it was a toggle option, but it isn't. You have to choose one of the other options (Hide/Show main form) to disable the popup. I was a bit confused by the use of the word 'Form' for the main window, but I figured it out ;-)

Wow, it has OCR.
Can even be added to the portable version:
   Visit the Download site
Check “Portable Version (OCR Lang Files) | 8 MB”
    Click Download Now
Extract the folder inside “ocrdats” into the application directory

This program is dramatically better than OCR available from Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional. Really lucky the X-Change team put this in the free version: this is a big win for freeware.

Note: some documents will not accept OCR conversion with the default "Preserve Original Content & Add Text Layer". Still, this option is much faster, so it is recommended trying this first and then "Convert Image Content to Image Only -- Add Text as a Layer" option.
quote from 'webfork' in the portable freeware forums:

======================
One slight annoyance is that ctrl-scrollwheel does not zoom!

I'm currently using 2.5 build 197 (portable/free version - not the most recent) - it works in that :-\ (Wn7 64bit)
Might be worth reporting it.
